This property does not turn the air conditioning on in the spring or the fall so if you have a warm night and you need it cool to sleep don’t stay here. I inquired like four times and they told me they can’t turn the AC on yet because it’s centralized, but when you walk in the lobby it’s freezing in the hallways are freezing, but my room was warm. . Finally after not sleeping for two nights, I elevated to the manager and they fixed it and it lasted for about two hours and then went off again, so I had to call again and it lasted for about two hours and went off again. I need it to be a little cooler so if you’re OK with mid 70s to high 70s in your room you’ll be fine and it’s a great location and very clean and the staff is very nice I just don’t get not having air conditioning in China the first week of May. This has happened to me the last couple times when I stayed in May or October. Hope they fix it because I love the location.

DAY LIGHT ROBBERY
The room was a bit small. I could not believe that i paid CNY52 for a soft drink in the bar, day light robbery to say the least. I expected to pay a bit more since it is a hotel bar so i did not look at the price upon ordering, but CNY52 for a can of 7UP is just absolutely ridiculous, the same would cost CNY3 in the shop.

Clean but never-ending Internet issues
As far as hotels in Shanghai go, the Equatorial is quite clean (which, if you've tried many hotels in Shanghai, you'll know is noteworthy) and the beds are comfortable. I live in a nearby city and whenever we come to spend time in Shanghai, we stay here but the internet connections almost always fail us. It's a problem at most Shanghai hotels we've tried. If you need to do work during your stay, you may need to choose a more expensive option.

Clean comfortable hotel in great location
Very convenient location at JingAn Temple, walking distance to metro station. It’s also the express shuttle bus departure/destination point to Pudong airport. The room and hotel conditions are average for this 4 star hotel. One annoying thing during my stay is often heard the staff talking loudly in the corridor, possibly due to the fact my room is too close to staff room

Loosing its touch and value for money
Compared to previous stays at the hotel I was very disappointed. The staff were not at the front door to take my bags out of the taxi. Asked at the desk to get a taxi but person was reluctant to get wet and used an app instead. Two people managed to get ahead of me. On previous stays they were very vigilant. The breakfast was cold. Had difficulty in getting some eggs fried. Wanted me to take eggs that were cooked at least an hour previous.

A few hiccups but "not bad"
I stayed in a recently renovated room, and it was clean and modern - although they went crazy with the light switches, and it took me a while to figure out how to toggle certain lights such as the night light (only possible from the right side of the right-most bed). I ended up asking to change rooms, because in the original room I was given, the AC did not function (the fan ran but air was not cooled) and the buttons for toggling the "do not disturb" and "please make up room" lights did not work either. The replacement room did not have these issues, though, and the staff were very accommodating. Room was nice and quiet. Would have been nice if the motorized drapes could have been stopped halfway open, rather than only "completely open" or "completely closed", but that's a nitpick. Probably would stay here again if I had business in the area.

The hotel is in very convenient location. The bell desk is very helpful. Whatever help we asked, they tried to accommodate our needs. But the bathtub is dirty, I can see the brown dirt around it, perhaps the cleaning crew never pay attention. At the first day, the house keeper left her cleaning bucket with stuff in the room. The next day, two pieces of dirty cleaning rugs were left on the table, there is an old band-aid was left on the floor for 3 days, looks like the house keeper only make the bed and pick up the used towels, but didn't truly do much cleaning.

mixed thoughts
Great location , room was clean and tidy . Apparently I was upgraded but the room was the basically the same as what I had booked . The bathroom is very small and the plug sockets really take some time to put plugs in.The beds are very comfortable and they have good black out curtains it was also very quiet . The receptionist when I arrived was very arrogant and made assumptions about my legality in China after misreading my passport which was both offensive and embarrassing .This gave for a sour start as did the amount of Deposit she required which changed throughout the conversation . Aside from that very good location . Hotel could do with more amenities . Pool is good aside from the spitting maybe a sign of no spitting poolside could be introduced . Gym was ok but limited in equipment . Positives great location , quiet , clean bedroom with comfortable beds . Very nice concierge who will help you with taxis .

Good choice
Hotel staff was excellent, and friendly. The hotel is still very nice but is aging slightly. Jing'an is an excellent location to base a vacation, close to Bund and Shopping street but out of the mobs of people. Easy access to clean and inexpensive subway. Cannot go wrong staying here but other hotels in the area are just as good, (Hilton, Yan An) so decide on price.

Good location near transportation and I always find a great price for a room. Breakfast charge is a bit high but generally pass as I am in a hurry to leave in the mornings. Sometimes a bit of a wait at front desk during peak hours but always a pleasure to stay here.
