“Excellent Experience at Midas”
We chose the Midas resort because it was affordable and sounded OK. It far exceeded our expectations. It is a lovely setting, extremely clean & well attended with excellent service and friendly staff. Though we had a rental car, the location is a short walk to an active section of San Ignacio but nicely situated away from the noise & bustle. The staff helped us arrange a day trip to Tikal in Guatemala and directed us to local restaurants. Very positive experience.
“What a trip.”
Great location, 5 minute walk to town. Was at ease walking to town at night too. The cabana we stayed in had a hammock out front. The hotel served breakfast starting at 7am. Made it easy to be ready for our early excursions. Would recommend this hotel because your right in the middle of nature and still close to town.
“Wonderful people”
Midas is not overpriced or fancy but the staff is fantastic and helpful. The resort has a great new pool and bar. The location is walking distance to downtown. Our room was large and clean. We loved our stay there and plan to return soon.
“Excellent Accomodations - Friendly Hosts”
Very nice, clean, and large accomodations. Air conditioned unit made the stay even more enjoyable. Mike, his wife, and their staff were very pleasant and helpful throughout our stay. Recommend the Midas Resort without reservation.

This is a very slow paced relaxing resort. great climate. Even the rain was relaxing. The staff were very friendly, made us feel comfortable and like family.
“Friendly hotel close to town center”
Midas resort provides a clean and comfortable place to stay for the budget-minded traveller. There are a variety of accommodations - cabins, cabins, hotel rooms and a new facility being built with more guest rooms. The proximity to town makes it easy to get to the local restaurants and shops. Midas serves breakfast only, but there are plenty of choices very close by for other meals, snacks, etc. The staff at Midas are very personable and helpful. The owner / manager Mike is on-site and stays on top of any issues you might have. Maria (Mike's mother) is also very involved in the resort. Dorita (front desk manager) was very accommodating and quick in answering all of our questions by e-mail before we made our final booking. All staff were helpful with information about local restaurants, tours, etc. Thomas can take you on a night tour of the hotel property to look for wildlife if you are interested. Just ask any of the staff and they will arrange this for you. We would recommend this hotel if you have reasonable expectations and are looking for a clean and comfortable place to stay.
“Much better than expected”
Having read some recent reviews criticizing this hotel,I was pleasantly surprised by the accomodation which was clean,comfortable and air-conditioned. More importantly I was impressed by the enthusiasm of the owners in providing useful information to maximize onjoyment of the area and in particular the fascinating Mayan sites. The security of the hotel was also reassuring and San Ignacio an excellent location for appreciating this rewarding area.
“Very unimpressive”
We picked this place based on previous reviews and I always think people are jsut complaining when they do these reviews but I would definitely recommend the resort up the hill instead. We were given the runaround when we wanted a different room because the AC didn't work - it was 85 and humid when we checked in and the owner said it was probably just the filter that needed cleaning. After someone went out to check, they did finally move us. It is right by the river so lots of mosquitos, so the night consisted of us uncomfortable on the cot style beds trying to keep the bites at bay. We had asked to get booked into the ATM tour and the owner forgot to call so the next morning was mad rush trying to find a tour place to take us. We were only there for 2 nights so that day was the only one we could do a tour, it was almost ruined but we found a guy in town that would take us. I would definitely recommend finding a different place, especially for the price!
