We particularly liked Mar Y Oro as it is in the center of the island and belongs to one of the most beautiful beaches, Playa Cacique. The Bellavista Suite we booked has the only best sea view room in the hotel and a large circular terrace with classic-style railings. Viewed from the terrace, the vast blue sea, blue sky, silvery beach, and tropical scenery are simply a paradise on earth! The food at Mar Y Oro is considered to be the best on the island. We ate all our meals here, and we witnessed the fishermen bringing the fish caught from the sea to the hotel, so we ordered a garlic Mahi Mahi dish for dinner. Served with coconut milk rice, it is tender and delicious, leaving a lingering fragrance in your mouth. The service staff here are very warm and friendly, and some can speak English, so there is no language problem. The hotel's decoration design style is unique, as if you are in a mysterious movie world, everything is charming and beautiful.

Great place. Loved the view from my room. Food was great but too pricey. Understandably though. Staff was very friendly. The only thing is that they should pick up the trash from the beach. Wished I stayed longer though

The views were gorgeous and the beds were very comfortable. The hotel staff was wonderful. We had expected that there would be other restaurants and more to do on the island and we did not have an easy time navigating a snorkel experience. But we had a very relaxing, and restful stay. Bring a water filter as the water on the island is not drinkable and buying all your water is expensive, as are the meals. But the hotel itself was lovely and the beach was absolutely beautiful.

The property is simple and nice. You can't beat the location! Being right on the beach was fabulous. There were plenty of beach chairs, towels, and umbrellas available and staff were eager and happy to set them up for us. Breakfast was included (fruit, eggs/omelet, juice, coffee) at the restaurant onsite. We did lunch one day at the beach bar and dinner one night in the restaurant. The food was average/good and seemed to be typical prices for an island. The staff were friendly and helpful.

The hotel is in a great place and food is very good, but checkout is very early and it has no decent place to go to the bathroom or take a bath after the beach. So be ready not be able to take a bath after the ocean and get in the ferry all sticky and with beach sand. Rooms need extra care. Ours had a whole in the roof of the bathroom because of excess humidity.

I can't say enough great things about this place! It sits right on a beautiful beach, and the rooms are new and very clean. The AC in the rooms works very well, which you want in this humidity. The staff is excellent - friendly and very helpful. The food in the restaurant is amazing. I highly recommend this hotel!

The staff was fantastic, very helpful and always friendly. The beach and hotel was great. They have a water situation, that had them turning off the water at night which was not always convenient. Otherwise it was great.

Had a great stay in the family suite at Mar y Oro! The staff was friendly and helpful. They arranged for taxis for us when needed, and were always available to answer questions. The views from the hotel, and the beach by it are perfect. The room is basic, but serves its purpose. Food options are the same everyday at the hotel restaurants, and are on the pricier end. Drinks were great. There are other restaurants you can go to on the island. We had one night where a guest was playing really loud music till late into the night, and we could hear every single bit of it - that was really our only complaint.

Great room, crapy general areas of the hotel
The hotel is amazing, the chef is extraordinary, rooms are in great condition and very clean, but the checkout time is very early and the general area conditions of the hotel are very crapy. The bathroom is very old, has no light and no place to take a bath after the sea. So if you expect to have a nice time in the sea while you leave the hotel is not an option.

Hola: Deberias decir tambien que te dimos un early checkin sin costo adicional. Que te pusimos una cuna extra sin costo adicional. Que no es culpa nuestra que el Ferry salga muy tarde por lo cual el tiempo de espera entre el check out y la salida de la isla no concuerden. Tambien deberias decir que pueden quedarse en las instalaciones del Hotel desues del check out y que pueden usar las instalaciones. Lástima que no le veas el lado positivo. Gracias

We spent 4 nights at this property in March and it was exactly what the doctor ordered. It was very quiet during the week and the beach is very nice. Some of the most positive aspects of this resort were Andres, Erica and Jonathan. They made our stay very enjoyable with their above and beyond service and happy attitudes :). This is obviously not a five star hotel but it has a five star staff. Despite the fact it needs a lot of maintenance this was a good place to stay. Best dining options on island for sure.

Fantastic location right on a small sandy beach. Just stunning. Lovely staff and restaurant overlooking the beach and nice food. The Island overall is a little run down and limited as it’s very small but the hotel does a great job. Minor irritations with electric and internet going down but it is a small remote island. Definitely worth 2-3 days for a relaxing break.

The Mar Y Oro was once a very nice hotel, but it’s pretty run-down now. The rooms were clean however, so that was a bonus. The complimentary breakfast was good, but the prices on their menu are way too high (we paid $120 US for a lunch for 4 that was mostly bland). You can’t drink the water (which is to be expected), but they didn’t supply any to guests without charging a lot. We rented a golf cart (not from them as they wanted $80/day vs the $50/day that we paid a guy we met upon arrival at the ferry landing), and went to the store for water, drinks, etc. I definitely recommend going to Gerald’s to eat also.

Alcoved Hidden Resort with Ocean View
Very good beachfront hotel with about 17 rooms available for different types of visitors. Staff made extra efforts to ensure clients were comfortable. Rooms are well kept and were fully cleaned and sanitized daily. Amenities : Good restaurant offering three meals per day, around-the-clock coffee and tea self-service in lobby, beach bar service in daytime. Location was amazing, directly overlooking sand beach with clear waters (Playa Cacique), nice scenic views and not overcrowded during our visit. There are nearby authentic restaurants (Italian, German, Spanish) and b&b’s as well as a small supermarket at a 15-minute walk from hotel. Golf carts can be rented to tour the higher parts of the island on its narrow roads and to visit other beaches. Marine activities and island tours can be organized with hotel. Highly recommend for getaway trip and to recharge batteries.

Nice location, lacking maintenance & precautions
Hotel location was nice in front of an amazing beach but hotel maintenance is needed in some areas. Found a roach in my room as well and while all hotel staff wear masks for covid - many guests are not and hotel staff does not seem to care/reinforce. No wonder Panama will go back into a lockdown again. Contadora island is mostly a ghost town but hotel restaurant is tasty.
