Conveniently located at the foot of Mermaid Street, the street you are coming to Rye for if you are a tourist, the Ship Inn is a great place to stay when visiting this charming old town. We had a wonderful Family room with two bedrooms and a beautiful bathroom. Staff was friendly and we felt very comfortable.They have a lovely dinner menu, and if you are staying for a longer time, there is a little Italian restaurant right next door for variety and another dining option. The only quirk is that if you are driving, you have to park in the park and display next to the hotel. It's free overnight. So you need to pay again in the morning or there is an option to purchase parking for the next day. A minor hassle for such a nice place to stay , though.

Likes: Conveniently located to high street. Staff were most pleasent. Nice bar/pub. Dislikes: Room could do with a chair. No on site parking at the Ship Inn itself, but near by public car parks.

The room had a kitchen extract running within the floor below and it was incredibly noisy. Creaking plumbing and slamming doors. Needs building mechanics upgrading

Comfortable pub hotel and very dog friendly
Our second stay at The Ship. We had a cosy double which was comfortable although quite small for 2 adults and a dog for 3 nights - next time I would book a larger room. Very dog friendly - our dog was very welcomed by all. Service was good and we were well looked after with our favourite table reserved for us in front of the fire. Bathroom was a little dated although clean, and the shower tray did not drain quickly and became a bit blocked (although in fairness we did not raise this to housekeeping to get it fixed). The room was quite warm and overnight did get a bit stuffy - on Saturday night it wasn't an option to have the window open due to some outside pub seats below our window which did mean some noise during open hours. Housekeeping were absolutely lovely and let us have a slightly flexible check out on our last day as my husband's work call ran over (they also put off hoovering the pub until his call was finished). Lovely location and a short walk to the cafes, pubs and shops of Rye. Parking is not included and nearest car park The Strand is £7.30 a day or £4.30 for 4 hours (8am to 7pm every day) - you can buy/top up on Ring-go so don't have to go down each morning at 8am. Free on street parking on Sunday.

Rooms were okay however they smelled like a fried food all the time and the room had a musty smell. Wouldn’t stay if staying for more than a night. Fire alarm also randomly started going off at 1am and all of us had to be evacuated and there was no reason fire hazard apparently.

Really cosy and welcoming!
I booked a quick trip away just for a quick break and from the very start the hospitality was amazing, so friendly and welcoming. The food in the restaurant was delicious and I had a wonderful nights sleep. I brought my dog with me too whom was also made to feel most welcome. I wholeheartedly recommend this Inn and If I travel to Rye again I will no doubt stay there again!

Very spacious and comfortable room. Good choice of tasty breakfasts. Customer service needs improvement, e.g. when I politely asked a member of staff to remove Christmas decorations from a staircase handrail, explaining that I needed to use the handrail because of poor eyesight, a day later (when we departed), this had not been actioned.

The room was fine except the bathroom sink light didn't work which I reported but they did nothing. Dinner was OK but service VERY brusque and eating elsewhere in Rye much better. Had the cheek to add 10%for service As for breakfasts then abysmal ! NO cereals and poached eggs on a bun - little choice and VERY expensive for anyone visiting - better to breakfast elsewhere -they are clearly not interested.

The Ship Inn is in a good location for walking around historical Rye and dates from the 16th century although its character is hidden by refurbishment. No private parking but I was lucky to get a space in a nearby public car park at 7 pounds per day. We booked last minute via Expedia and although the property advertised 'best rates by booking direct' Expedia was the best rate. Short staffing meant only two people were serving behind the bar, waiting at the small restaurant and receiving guests. Understandably they were under pressure and I didn't feel particularly welcome when we arrived or during our stay. The room was hot, noisy (from the pub) and not well maintained but just about adequate. Food in the 'restaurant' was basic pub faire and items on the menu unavailable, likewise for the breakfast menu too. Overall the experience was a little disappointing for me but perhaps my expectations were too high, it is, after all, just a pub with rooms.

Lovely Stay
We were welcomed by a lovely hostess who showed us to our room. The room was comfortable, clean and spacious- with everything we needed for a nights stay. We had breakfast the next morning, which was hot, fresh and tasty. The only minor criticism was the hostess serving breakfast. She appeared sullen and was less than welcoming. Once our breakfast was delivered she did not return once to see if we wanted anything else. A little bit of a let down. We had late checkout, meeting with Helen the Head Housekeeper- who was incredibly helpful and friendly.

kitchen fan outside my room so all food smell came in window had to have window close on one of hotish day of the year air con not any good. had desk fan made noise of a plane taking of so could not have that on . there 3 days try to stay out of room as much as we could

Beautiful old Inn in a perfect location for exploring historic Rye. Very comfortable room. Comfortable bed, fluffy pillows and luxury touches such as quality toiletries, Nespresso machine with quality coffee pods and selection of up market teas. Delicious breakfast included. Great value for money for this area. We would certainly stay here again. Very nice food and great drinks selection including good cask ales. Cheap car parking not far away as well as Rye Station 5 minutes walk away.

Amazing place, better than expected with the comfort of a Pub for eating and drinking. The place is in the heart of the town. Rooms were spacious, clean and quiet. Definitely recommending this place for anyone who looks for visiting Rye and Camber Sands.

Great staff and lovely clean room.
A lovely stay, staff v.friendly and helpful. Good value at £78 however we feel this is the max amount we would really pay leaving us feeling really satisfied. This is only because, the rooms are a little cramped and no easy chairs to relax. The bathroom is very tight in space too, but totally adequate. The towels were lovely and soft and the linen was lovely and crisp. There was a coffee machine with coffee pods but no kettle although the staff did say we could request one. Breakfast was very enjoyable with a good selection on the menu and was happy to change a few things when we requested. Great location. We would definitely return if it was around the £80 mark, but not if it was much above that. (we stayed in the 3 bs room balfore blanc de blanc.

Staff was very friendly and eager to please. Building was 500 years old, but still outfitted so that major systems (water, power, etc.) worked well. Located in an area to explore charming Rye on foot. Food service was very good.
