“Champagne Palace in Rome...Great”

The Hotel is very close to Roma Termini making getting anywhere in the city a cinch. It is the typical size of a european hotel room and the service was very good. Convenient to plenty of restaurants and shopping. Excellent for the price I paid. The only drawback was the lack of Wifi in the room. I had to purchase Wifi and stay in the lobby to use it.

“great location but tired building”

great for Termini / metro and airport connections. It was a good base but room is very small for 2 people with little room for clothes - lived out of suitcase as stopped 4 nights and air conditioning noisy so turned off at night and sweltered in Aug heat. No hot water in sink at any time but shower was good and hot. Air con not very good in Breakfast room on rooftop but good views out. Old portable TV and fridge door hard to open as handle broken off. On the plus side easy to get back to day and night, friendly staff. Fresh towels everyday and the bedding changed twice during our stay. Would not class it as 4 star more a dated 3 star.

Area recommendations
Definitely the Coloseum.
Getting around
buy a 4 euro ticket from any Tabachi or in the metro stations and you get 24 hours travel on everything, trams, buses and metro - great value. Remember to validate your ticket on buses using the yellow boxes - you cannot buy tickets on a bus.
Must see
A visit to St Peters and if you want a challenge take the first doorway as you go up the steps signed 'To the Cupola' before the main basilica entrance. It costs 7 euro to use the lift up and down or 400+ steps to the roof level. After that another 300+ steps some slanting to the top of the dome 'cupola' - but boy is it worth it. The views are spectacular. You look down over the statues onto the square and other sites of Rome. But it is tiring and only for the fit!
Other
Go to Pompeii for the day if time allows. You can get a day trip which starts at 7 in the morning down by coach stopping in Naples to see the bay then onto Pompeii for lunch before going into the site. Such a time capsule it has to be seen to be realised. If you liked visiting the Coloseum and the Forum etc this is on a par to them.

“Ok, but not impressed”

The reception staff was nice and helpful. The room was small but big and clean enough. The bathroom was also ok. However, the water took forever to drain and it felt disgusting every time I took a shower. I talked to the receptionist, but the problem was not fixed for the 6 days we stayed. Breakfast was ok, but apparently they are short of glasses, cutlery, and cups . We had to wait for them to be replaced and that was annoying. Overall the stay was ok. I don't think I'll stay there again.

Area recommendations
If you have an extra day in Rome, take a train and visit the ruins of Pompeii. It was a highlight of our stay in Italy!
Getting around
Walk, walk and walk! There's no better way to really feel the city.

“One night stay”

Hotel was run by extremely friendly and compentent staff who answered all our questions on tourist sites, train and bus times and were more than happy to look after our suitcases whilst we visited the sites having checked out. Location was great and breakfast was good. The hotel rooms need some modernisation as they are somewhat out of date with air con that just about coped and therefore this should really be classed as a 3 star but was still value for money!

“Very satisfactory for short stay”

This hotel is a very typical European hotel. Rooms, public areas, elevators are small but functional. This hotel is in a great location three blocks from main rail terminal. Many sidewalk cafes, shops and restaurants are in the streets below this 7 story hotel. While the building, like most in the neighborhood is old, it has been very tastefully updated and seemed secure with electronic locks and vigilient reception personnel. Our room was very clean and the twin beds seem to have been equipped with good firm "temperpedic" type matresses. The included breakfast buffet was very satisfactory but not extravagant, serving fresh pastries, juices, cold meats and cheeses w/variety breads and an assortment of hot coffees, teas. This breakfast area is located on the top floor (7th) and provides a less than spectacular view of the central part of Rome. All hotel personnel with whom we made contact were very polite and helpful to we non Italian speaking guests. For the money, relative to others in the area, I think it a fair bang for the buck.

Area recommendations
The area where this hotel is located, close to main rail terminal is good, as it appears to be a hub for transportation locally, as well as into and out from Rome. The area, while older appeared to be safe and had many tourists about. As mentioned restaurants, sidewalk cafes and shope were proliferous throughout the area.

“5 star service, 3 star hotel”

Hotel is in a great spot, very central and convenient. We wanted a 4 star hotel and ended up getting 5 star service and treatment but in a 3 star hotel, which definitely needs a makeover.. But definitely great value for money. The concierge, Massimo (spoke fluent english), was absolutely brilliant and was very helpful and pleasant in assisting us with all hotel things but also with booking in tours, sight seeing, shopping, restaurants etc. The service provided, especially Massimo's; and the great location, masked our initial disappointment at the "look" of the building and that it needs to be internally updated.

“Champagne Palace Hotel”

If you like hotels with an old-fashioned feel (as I do) you'll most probably love it, but if you're after something more modern and sleek perhaps this isn't the one for you. The entrance is quite "grand", all done out with gilt and stucco decoration and marble. We had a room with a lovely little balcony overlooking the busy streets below, the room was clean enough and very warm. Breakfast was a little unimaginative but satisfactory all the same. Very close to the Termini and bus tours etc if you're planning a short stay.

“Very good choice”

The hotel was pleasant and the room was lovely and cool which was good to get away from the August heat outside. Windows blocked out all noise from outside as it is on a busy corner. Breakfast was decent however the room was much smaller than expected and when seated there really was not much of a view across the city. Although with the particular architecture of Rome a skyscraper view would not be particularly spectacular.Just minutes from the train and metro station and an abundance of restaurants nearby. However when choosing restaurants be picky, the all look the same in terms of menu but some standards were better than others and the whole eating out process was slightly confusing. However it was a worthwhile trip. Rome in one word - confusing.

When to go
Spring time would be best.
Getting around
Use the metro as it is very handy.
What to pack
Females make sure they have clothing items to cover their knees and shoulders for when visting sacred places such as St Peters Basilicca otherwise you will be turned away.
Dining
Strange system, you are expected to order a first plate and a second plate, but this is not a starter and main but rather a pasta and then a meat/fish which is usually just the meat on a plate with some sauce. All restaurants seemed to serve similar dishes so just look at the staff attire and cleanliness etc.

“Certainly not worth the price.”

Comparing the price to that of two others I stayed in on the same street in the same week, I was far less satisfied with my stay here. Breakfast was included at all three. The one here was considerably less "nutritious". The absence of fruit each morning, yogurt one morning, and warm food as provided by the other two certainly fforded me a much lesser view of this hotel. I still have to fall back to the initial greeting which although professional, was lacking in any sort of warmth. Room was adequate but far from the images presented online. However, the location was very appropriate as it was very close to the Central Termini station.

Area recommendations
Via Principe Amadeo on which this hotel was located was fine, and seemingly safe, although far better at the north end, closer to the opera house. At this end, it was darker and less inviting. It was very central and allowed easy access to the rest of the city. However, for evening strolls and dining, the Campo De Fiori, and the Piazza Navona are certainly worth spending some time at, with the squares full of locals and tourists alike and much activity in the evening.
