“Power of the ocean”
Historic fort with walls a foot thick. Far from down town but they paid for 2 way taxi. Excellent food and very attentive service. Wonderful natural beauty of a perfect surfer beach. Fabulous sunset. Rooms are a bit small, but the jacuzzi in the bath was great.
“hard incredibly uncomfortable mattresses with no boxspring”
While the hotel is picturesque and beautifully situated, it is very over priced and very uncomfortable. Even their sofas were stiff. The worst were the mattresses which even the staff was fully aware of. It was like sleeping on a wooden plank.

TAP Portuguese airlines were as good as can be expected nowadays, and the flight was comfortable, on-time, and the luggage handled quickly at both ends. I would happily recommend the hotel Fortaleza Do Guincho. We had a fabulous time there. We booked a superior double, and this gave us a small but pleasant balcony (with table and chairs) overlooking Guincho Bay and the fantastic coastline. There was complentary fruit and port with the room, which was tastefully decorated and comfortable. The staff were attentive and the bar/restaurant excellent. Five stars well deserved for this wonderful location! By the way, the "MUCHAXO" hotel, immediately next door, is a great place for a beer and snack, and has lower priced rooms for a budget break!
“Excellent Stay”
We had an excellent stay at the Fortaleza do Guincho. The staff was most attentive and helpful. The location is breathtaking! and the restaurant just the best.
“Lap of luxury”
The Fortaleza Do Guincho is a throwback to the old days when staying in a hotel was a luxury. The service at this hotel was outstanding, the rooms were beautiful, and the food excellent. I would definitely stay at this hotel again. The one potential limitation is that it is approximately 8-10 kms from Cascais. However, we rented bicycles from a local sport shop and rode into town along the coast.

Elegant and tranquil, this hotel is an absolute must for those seeking a relaxed and comfortable stay but who value high standards of service. The rooms are tastefully decorated and scrupulously clean - the toiletries are Hermes which speak for themselves! Exquisite food cooked and served to perfection. The staff are highly professional, discreetly attentive and genuinely concerned to ensure that guests receive the best possible service. You must go. We cannot recommend this hotel too highly.
“Traumhafte Woche im Fortaleza Do Guincho”
Ein super Hotel in traumhafter Lage. Der Blick auf den Atlantik ist unvergleichlich, die Lage wirklich einmalig. Das ganze Hotel ist sehr ansprechend mit Antiquitäten eingerichtet, die Dusche erfordert ein bisschen technisches Know-How, hat aber alles, was man sich wünscht. Die Zimmer sind nicht allzu groß, aber völlig ausreichend und sehr schön möbliert. Frühstücksbuffet wirklich ausreichend und sehr schmackhaft. Man sollte aber unbedingt einen Mietwagen nehmen, da in unmittelbarer Umgebung keine Einkaufsmöglichkeit besteht. Wer mal richtig ausspannen will, ist hier an der richtigen Adresse. Sehr freundliches, hilfsbereites und sprachbegabtes Personal. Alles bestens.
