Wonderful Hotel

Posted 28-Mar-2015
Pros: The peacefulness and sounds of the rainforest.
Cons: Nothing
We weren't sure about staying in the Rainforest and were going to visit from Port Douglas. However, Silky Oaks was a highlight of our holiday. It is so relaxing and serene. Our room (no. 14) overlooked the river and we had the most wonderful swim there as sun was shining when we arrived, followed by a swim in the wonderful pool. The meal in the evening and breakfast were wonderful and loved listening to the noise of the rain. The bedroom was excellent, calming music playing, no TV, fantastic view and a bath overlooking the rainforest! Would definitely recommend staying. A guide was just about to start a walk and showed us a snake he had in his bag! Staff very friendly.

Loved it

Gorgeous location, exceptional service, very friendly and helpful staff, lovely Day Spa. Only let down is the lunch and dinner menu which lacks basic choices and variety, by trying to be too 'fancy' the food missed the mark. Would definitely stay here again.

Rainforest luxury - heaven!

Posted 23-Dec-2014
Pros: Location, privacy, high quality of property and amenities, total luxury feel
Cons: Front desk staff could be more helpful. I had to raise an issue to the manger while I was there. A guest should only have great experiences.
Location: GBR, Daintree, bird watching, heli flights over the reef, aboriginal walks and talks
We wanted a luxury rainforest experience, and we were thrilled. Our room was very private, and had everything one could want to define luxury - fine bed linens and towels; the total bath experience; the hammock on our porch; a sofa for reading; wine, fruit, and cheese; soft music playing when we arrived in the room, fragrant candle burning. . . . We stayed in one of the Deluxe Treehouses at the far end of the property, and it is a hike to get too and fro; not so far as much as up and down - good exercise! At breakfast (included in our room rate) we had lots of fresh fruits, excellent omelets, all we could ask for - even a server who rode Harleys with her spouse, so mine had a good time taking with her. We spotted a Ulysses butterfly, and lots of parrots. The walk through their property gave us a good introduction to plants we saw later; it and may other activities are free to guests (mountain bikes, yoga, kayaks, DVDs, etc.). The hotel is handy to PD, GBR, and Daintree, so easy drives to what we wanted to see. The flowers in the lobby and dining room were so spectacular that we couldn't believe they were real. We only dipped our toes into the pool, but it is a beautiful setting. Our only regret is that we didn't book in for a week or more!

Luxury in the Australian rainforest

Posted 11-Dec-2014
Pros: Atmoshere, location, design, room with verandah, pool. Not the best for young children.
Cons: Nothing
Location: 3 or 4 kms off main route. Near Port Douglas, Daintree Rain Forest, Cape Tribulation, Mossman Gorge, Great Barrier Reef, Tablelands.
The Silky Oaks Lodge is a must for the selective traveler without young kids in tow exploring Australia's north Queensland region. No property in nearby Port Douglas matchs it's authentic and elegant atmosphere. A great staging place from which to explore the Daintree Rainforest, Cape Tribulation, the Mossman Gorge, and although located in the rainforest and not the beach, even the Great Barrier Reef. The design and artistry of the Main Lodge, and pool, as well as, the location of the individual units with their verandas and hammocks, the tennis courts, gym, and spa underscore the thoughtful placement of all to blend into its hillside overlooking the Mossman River. An Eden's reprieve from the blaring Australian sun.

Perfect getaway

Beautiful spot, we were only able to stay one night but it was such a nice relaxing place to be. The restaurant was amazing, and the surrounding Daintree and walks were great. Hotel was in pristine condition!

Pros: The remoteness of the lodge and the no wifi or tv access
Cons: I was expecting the tree top huts to be more private and not as close to other huts as they were.
Location: Away from it all
great if you want a secluded, remote getaway in luxury.

Pros:
