Stayed for two nights three of us two rooms. We found everything very accommodating and nothing was too much trouble. We were greeted by the owner who was very friendly and explained everything that we needed to know. The breakfast was superb and cannot fault it. Lots of little extra touches like cake in our rooms. Everything was well stocked with fresh milk and water daily. Would definitely recommend this guesthouse to anyone and only 6 miles or so to Whitby.

A soothing break-away.
Very peaceful, friendly and welcoming. Pet friendly too. Excellent location for Runswick beach/village. Lovely surprise too: butter, bread and jams all made on site. Lovely! A surprise few days away to mark our 42nd wedding anniversay.

Faded glory
This guest house seems to have suffered badly since lockdown. The pictures on the booking site don’t reflect how the place looks now - it’s very tired and untidy. In need of updating. The staff are cheerful but it seems they are over worked even though the hotel was well under occupied during our stay. Though they state they have an evening restaurant, this was closed due to staffing issues during our stay. Given the limited options in walking distance this did let us down a little. We had a great break and the local area is what we came to see but this hotel really needs to work hard to get back to its former glory.

Runswick Bay - The Firs - Fantastic find
Amazing last minute find, Fantastic breakfast / great location and Pet friendly (we didn't have pets and you could choose to dine in a pet free room if that's a problem for you) Will definitely visit again. and yes the pathway 'back' uphill from Runswick Bay beach itself is a killer.. Choose to walk along the road back if you want to keep your heart rate steady..

Not for us. We paid £292 for 2 adults and 1 child for 2 nights. For what we paid we are very disappointed. The standard did not reflect the price. The reviews I read stated it was exceptional, it Is far from this. The room was dated, it smelt and breakfast was passable. We didn’t realise it was a place where dogs could stay too. The staff were friendly and the shower was good. Wouldn’t stay again.

weekend stay in runswick bay
Good location easy reach to runswick bay beach ( down a very steep hill). 15 mins drive from Whitby and 6 mins from Staithes beach. Had measures in place due to COVID. Allocated time for breakfast, evening meal was available if you wanted to eat there. Found the bed and pillows very hard (personal preference). Found the cost a little high as I have stayed in simililar 4 star hotel for half the price. ? This normal price or price post COVID reopening

Lovely hotel, with very friendly staff and the breakfast is fantastic. The location is brilliant for dropping into the resorts nearby and if you get there early enough, there’s a gorgeous little beach at Runswick Bay.

Received a very warm welcome on arrival, shown around the guest house and also our room, which was decorated beautifully, Jacuzzi bath and tv built in the wall of the bathroom , all facilities explained and things nearby, breakfast was amazing, large menu to choose from, I opted for the full English both mornings, other half chose the smoked haddock, both delicious, all home made jams and marmalade, home made bread, also home made cake put in the room every day, staff very attentive and pleasant, nothing is too much trouble, I will be returning!

Lovely B&B in a quaint, quiet little village. The village sits on a bluff overlooking Runswick Bay. We had the mistaken impression you could see the water from the inn. It is a bit of a hike down to the beach from the inn, but we thought well worth the effort (coming back up, that is).

Amazing breakfasts in a Runswick Bay gem
Although we were only staying for one night the whole experience was excellent. A very friendly welcome and the room was lovely, spacious with a very comfy bed and every need catered for (including cake!) Breakfast was superb, extensive menu with a great selection of fishy breakfasts and as a coeliac I was very well looked after. Would highly recommend.

Excellent location and lovely staff
Right from our arrival, we were made to feel at home by our very hospitable and welcoming hosts. After checking in, we were given a tour of the B&B and shown to our room. Our large bedroom overlooked the large garden at the rear and was decorated in a lovely quaint cottage style - perfect for the location. Even the tea/coffee making facilities came with slices of delicious homemade sponge cake! As other reviews have mentioned, the breakfasts are simply huge and all the locally sourced cooked items are freshly cooked to order. The location is spot on for walking as well as driving around the area - Whitby, Staithes, Sandsend and Robin Hood's Bay are just a short drive away. You could even drive the half mile down to Runswick Bay if you don't fancy the steep climb back up the hill. There is a lovely pub just a few minutes walk down the road, with others just a short drive away. The staff are all highly knowledgeable of the surrounding area and are happy to give recommendations. The two nights we stayed simply weren't long enough - we're already planning our next trip there.

Cosy B&B away from the hustle & bustle
The Firs is in a quiet residential backwater, within walking distance of 2 pubs & views over the bay. Spacious comfortable rooms with extra little touches like leaving slices of home made cake & toffees in your room, & offering to chill your bottle of wine ready for when you return from a busy day of sightseeing.

My first visit to Runswick Bay
I enjoyed my stay at Runswich bay. The bay itself from the top of the mountain was absolutely stunning actually it was a view 'to die for'. It was quiet and tranquil. It was lovely to see so many families having a day out altogether with their buckets and spades and nets to catch crabs. I found it easy to travel into Whitby with a reliable bus service but there is a disadvantage if you want to see out late because the bus only runs to seven in the evening. I did not mind this as there were a couple of excellent places to eat and just walking down to the bay was good enough. Overall I had a relaxing and fantastic time and would recommend it, if you want to get away from the stress of city life this is the place.

Weekend away
I stayed at the hotel with my granddaughter who id deaf and my old german Shepherd. The staff where lovely and the room was very nice. The only drawback was that my dog had difficulty getting up and down the stairs. I was informed on leaving that if we come again they will put us in a downstairs room. I did let them know before hand that I may be bringing my old german Shepherd, but i had also booked the family room to give us more room.

Peaceful and comfortable
Stayed one night and had a delightful room with period furnishings, on the ground floor. Lovely touches with a piece of cake wrapped in a gift box. The breakfast was delightful with home made jams and a selection of breads including home made. Good choice too with smoked fish as an alternative to sausage and bacon.
