Our stay was wonderful! The one complaint that I have is that someone tried to break into our room when we were in it, it was a very scary ordeal. Other than that happening our first night everything was wonderful and our room was so clean and we loved the little seating area in the room too!

This was an impromptu trip for just the 2 of us and our dog. It’s a basic beach motel room and was exactly what we wanted. The location was across from the public beach access and behind the Dunes restaurant. Super convenient and clean. Will definitely be back.

We have stayed at the historic Tar Heel in the past & like the location first & foremost. This time, we were disappointed in the service, as far as cleanliness of the room. Arrived Friday afternoon, room was not checked ALL day on Saturday, no fresh towels, coffee, etc. Mention this to the front desk staff, he said there was no staff to take care of room at 2:30PM???

We have stayed here several times and enjoyed our stay. We arrived around midnight and was provided a keyless entry code which was perfect. Once we unloaded we noticed the crumbs on the carpet and a few burs which we picked up. My son went to the bathroom and stepped on burs with his bare foot as well as my husband by the sink. As I went to put our stuff in the fridge I noticed it had not been emptied. We went to bed only to be met with more burs in the bed. So we pulled back the sheets and picked them out. I’m the morning I roll a shower and dried my face with a towel that was full of burs. I told the girl at the front desk and she extended our stay by an hour. Just really sad to lose such a cute, clean motel we loved to stay at every year.

All in all just fine. Good toaster and fridge for evening in room picnic. Clean towels and sheets...plenty of AC, easy to be comfortable. A bit out of date, but has some character. Old beachy feel. Friendly staff welcome in the office.
