“Karibea Squash an average business hotel”

The Karibea Squash is a 10 minute walk to Fort-de-France, overlooking the ocean about 5 blocks up from the shoreline. We were expecting a room with a kitchenette, we arrived and learned that they only had one such room. So the pictures on the web do not reflect the actual rooms. The included breakfast is quite good, including fresh fruit, cereals, buns, croissants, eggs, bacon, sausage, fresh juices. However all other meals are mediocre. Walk to town for better food in the same price range. The pool is gated in where you can fit 3 lounge chairs back to back on one side and seating space and legs dangling in the water on the other. It's an ok size pool but not one to lounge around. It was perfect for our 2 night stay awaiting our flight after our real trip. I wouldn't stay there longer. The Karibea Squash is perfect for business dealings, or those wanting to explore Fort-de-France for a day but it is not a resort type hotel or even one with the nice lounge area around the pool. You are only alloud to sit at the bar or right by the pool. The outdoor shaded part of the patio with tables and chairs are off limits even when the restaurant is closed and yes someone will check on you. I would rate this hotel as a 2.5 star in general terms and 1 star if I compare it to a 5 star Sheraton Hotel.

Area recommendations
The Karibea Squash is within 8 minute walking distance down hill to Fort-de-France and 10 minute walking back up the hill to the hotel. It's not in the nicest of neighbourhoods but I felt safe walking with my 4 year old son and husband. We rented a home in Lamentin, in the mountain, on the other side of Fort-de-France for our first week and rented a car, which alloud us to visit the entire island. Much nicer but not as close to amenities.
Getting around
Rent a vehicle, it's much more cost effective than the taxis and purchase the insurance through the rental company because they have very high damage deposits which they will cash even for a scratch and when you are not at fault. It takes many months to get your money back.
Must see
Top three must sees 1) Les Salines Beaches in the south 2) climb Mont Pelee in the north 3) Saint Marie on the Atlantic side of the island- cool sand bar connecting the main island with a little island for only 4-5 months of the year and great local fisherman.
Shopping
La Galleria is a modern mall with some great shops and a grocery store centrally located in Lamentin/Fort-de-France just off the highway. During these economic times good deals can be found in Fort-de-France but don't expect to find any Parisan couture on this island, you'l have to go to St. Barts or St. Maarten.
Dining
Basic food - nothing refined - definitely no French gourmet food. If you try local Creole food it seems to be tastier than the wanna be French cuisine.

“Quiet and Comfortable”

Very nice and quiet. Walking distance to downtown. Excellent Saturday evening dinner, both food and service.

“hotel de negocios aceptable”

El hotel es sin sorpresas y muy aceptable. Si se viene a pasar unas vacaciones más vale elegir otro. No obstante el hotel es muy limpio y la gente es simpática. Lo recomiendo a la gente que viene a trabajar como yo en Martinique. El wifi es gratis y funciona muy bien.

“Hotel Karibea Squash, centré sur l'ile pour tout visiter”

Bon hôtel, personnel très sympathique, vue magnifique sur la baie de Fort de France, position centrale pour visiteur avec une voiture. A déconseiller pour amateur de plage et pour piéton, l'environnement est pour le moins déplaisant , et certainement pas très sécurisant

Area recommendations
Toute l'île est a environ 50 km maxi de l'hotel donc tout se visite facilement. Pour un court séjour, faire la traversée de la baie vers 3 Illets, sauf Dimanche et jours fériés bien sûr, nous sommes en Martinique et on ne travaille pas le Dimanche bien sûr...
