“Lovely island and people”
Hotel is a bit away from restaurants so one needs a car to eat out other than hotel dining room. Very conveniently placed if one wishes to cross to Gozo (access is close on foot) Maltese and Gozitans we met could not have been more friendly and jovial.
“Excellent hotel but out of the way”
Hotel is very good value for money, clean, and with excellent food and good facilities, and is a hotel I would definitely recommend to others. Indoor pool and jacuzzi are both at good temperatures, but water is salty which may not be to everyone's tastes (known about in advance due to previous reviews). Before selecting this hotel, though, be aware that it is out of the way (deliberately chosen by us). It is a long walk into the nearest town, and 40 minutes drive to Valletta, so hiring a car is recommended for sight-seeing. The hotel arranges a free transport bus into Sliema and Buggiba which is very helpful fior those without a car, and the hop-on tour bus can do a hotel pick-up as well. The location is very quiet - the road doesn't go anywhere so no passing traffic. There can be some noise from evening entertainment for those with a pool view room. Rooms with a land-view have a good view of the countryside, and could be better for those who want to get the evening sun on their balcony.
“Will be back again”
Resort was great as normal. 2nd visit. Staff mostly friendly. Some trainees need to practice smiling though.
“Do not go if can afford to pay more!”
Terrible sound isolation! If near the elevator - just feel that you live inside the elevator, even the plugs in the ear do not help! Location is just terrible, nothing around! You need to go at least 30 minutes by bus to go somewhere interesting! Breakfast is just terrible: there are no juices (just drinks) and the coffee is terrible from the cheap machine. No meat or fish during the breakfast just sausages very low quality. In total - you get what you pay... The only good thing is - free WiFi that works almost everywere in the hotel.
“Value for money but could do better”
This was the second time in two years that we had stayed at the Riviera. The public areas are very nice but the rooms are looking a bit tired. Everything functioned OK but some of the tiles in the bathroom were cracked and grouting missing. The air conditioning in the rooms was not very efficient, never getting the rooms really cool. Disappointed that the in room fridge/mini bar was locked as it would be nice to store water etc. in the fridge, also in room safe was only available for an extra payment. The breakfast was adequate without being spectacular. All the staff are very friendly with the execption of ome of the barman in the lobby bar. All in all the hotel is adequate for the price, but I would not class it as 4 star any longer. We will probably look elsewhere next time we go to Malta
“Chilled...........”
Purpose: Chilled/cheap holiday with friends R/O. Location: quiet, relaxing. Bay outside hotel. Approx 1km walk to Gozo ferry (cheap - pay on way back from Gozo, just walk on to ferry). Bus 2mins from hotel Mellieha castle - various destinations. Buses finish quite early, and later on it's a bit hit and miss, but that's Malta buses! No timetables at stops so ask hotel/drivers, very regular throughout the day to go visit other areas, Bugibba, St Julian's, Valetta. Mellieha town: short bus ride, tried to walk but quite far & bendy road, cab/bus is advised, there is footpath if you're a true trekker! Nearest sandy-ish beach: short bus ride. Cab fares paid: Airport 34E Back from St Julians 20ishE (dont recall exactly) - there are buses - CHECK TIMES beforehand. Mellieha town 10E Check timetables with drivers wherever you go even if you're coming back early evening as they may not run. HOTEL: clean, accommodating, service good/helpful, bar staff great, food good (3 places to eat main meals (didn't have breakfast). Hola Bar just to the right of hotel (between Riviera and other hotel) (nice setting). No tea or coffee facility in room - pay extra from pool bar or resto/room service. Meals: Pool Bar - snack/lunch meals (hot dogs, burgers, sandwich) open til 12am for drinks (depends on crowd) - fab service. Riviera Bistro- lunch/dinner- the only a la carte. Buffet main resto - check boards for menus. Van man outside serving basics :) Full review will be on tripadvisor.
“Excellent for relaxation & to get away from it all. Ideal for over 50+”
Just returned from a 7 day trip to Malta with the wife. Stayed at the Riviera Resort. All in all is was very pleasant. Value for Money. Hotel is very good for relaxation and to get away from it all. Very quite, close to beach. excellent location for water sport activities and boat trips to Comino & Gozo! Staff are friendly and helpful and hotel is beautiful and bright. Only downside if i was going to be critical is that the hotel is far and a bit isolated from the main towns and with limited bus service a car is neccesary if you planing on checking out different restaurant , bars ect at night.. like we was. Food at the hotel also is a bit average. We only ate there on the first night, we ate out all the other nights there is some nice restaurant close by in Mellieha. Notabily "Hill Top Restaurant" excellent food. Also we are a young couple age 25. The hotel guest average age was 40+, looks like the hotel caters more for this age group. Apart from that the Hotel is excellent. Very romatic Picturesque surrounding, Excellent Value for money . We will definetly stay again but with Car !
“We,ll be back!”
We have been going to this hotel since it first opened and have just visited again this September and to other parts of Malta for over 20 years. Still enjoy it and we love the position of this hotel, away from it all in a beautiful bay. Bathrooms need to be updated now but they are stilll nice and clean but missed the tissues they have always had in them! overall would recommend hotel for those wanting a peaceful holiday. Very good and varied food in main restaurant even though its self service, and helpful friendly staff especially on reception. Two lovely swimming pools with plenty of seating and umbrellas plus an indoor spa. If you want to see the island would recommend you hire a car. Ferries for Gozo and Comino are close by.
“Perfect holiday! Couldn't have asked for more.”
The hotel Riviera is perfect for a quiet, relaxing break. It is a fair way from the main cities and you have to travel by the rickety buses to get anywhere but as we wanted a quiet, relaxing location this wasn't a problem. The scenery around the hotel is stunning, all day and night and location is amazing (very romantic at night!). There is loud entertainment at night, but it always finished at 11pm and they play a good selection of music to dance or to listen. You have a goregous pool, that is never too busy (we were there smack bang in the middle of august and still had a good selection of sun beds throughout the day!) A trip to Comino is a must, I would recommend the blue waves trip that goes just down from the hotel. We had room only board but there is a brilliant little 'truck' shop just outside the hotel which had fresh fruit and handmade sandwiches for very cheap. We ate in the bufee restaurant 4 nights, at a reduced price, it was all you can eat with a good selection of maltese dishes. The bistro is also good for pizza! I think this was one of the best run hotels I have ever stayed in with friendly staff who would go out of their way to help you and a good standard of room and amenities. I would definately recommend it!!
“Reasonable hotel for a reasonable price”
This hotel was chosen as a base for a week of scuba diving. Other activities were not planned. Therefore, the location and hotel amenities were not critical. Although the hotel is a bit worn, the room was very nice and clean. The attached dive store was extremely convenient and also provided a good service. We were upgraded from the backside to a pool-view room, which appears to be the normal policy. Our only complaints were the breakfast buffet (limited choice, juice machines that give flavored water, etc.), the over-loud disco most nights (but room insulation is good), and the lack of an information sheet with opening times, etc. The positives are: price, dinner buffet, attached dive store, and extremely friendly staff. All in all, a keeper.
