“Pretty good - great location”

The location, just a few minutes walk inside the City Gate, was why I chose it, and it was excellent (especially as the bus station is just outside the City Gate), and with several very pleasant local restaurants in the same street. Staff and service was fine, except for one morning when they were short-staffed and the breakfast buffet was somewhat slow in being replenished - they did apologize (unprompted). My only slight reservation was that the bathroom was very small - I've seen bigger on 30 foot yachts! But it was usable with care. I had a standard twin-bedded room; it might be worth giving them a ring and asking whether there are any rooms with bigger bathrooms, if this would be a problem to you. Also (I was warned about this!) don't even think of going there by car! It's on a narrow one-way street, and the taxis have to go all round everywhere to get in and out - you can't really park rental cars in the City anyway. If you have a car, ask about leaving it just outside the City Gate. There's a big car park, but the area around it is being re-developed at the moment so it would be a wise move to call the hotel (their English is pretty good), to check. You could pick up one of the little electric taxis (1 Euro) to get your bags to the hotel. Note that this applies to all the hotels inside the City walls.

Area recommendations
Almost anywhere! But the main street (Republic Street) is very touristy and crowded - even there, there are some reasonable restaurants. Have a beer/coffee/snack at one of the cafe tables in the mnain square. Surprisingly reasonable prices for such a location (Eu 3.40 for a proper, UK pint, of local beer when I was ther).
Getting around
Some main roads are excellent, but there's quite a bit of traffic. Minor roads are pretty bad, and the driving reminds me of Boston - signs, stop lights, speed limits, keep left etc are just there to look pretty, not to be obeyed. Taxis are a bit pricey, but very good (immaculate white Mercedes, usually.) The little electric taxis in the city of Valletta are good value (1 Euro). You can walk anywhere in Valletta (although it's quite hilly!) - the whole place is less than a mile from end to end. For getting around the rest of the Island, try the buses. They almost all run to/from the central bus station just outside the Valletta city walls. It's pretty chaotic, but the locals are helpful, the buses do have numbered routes (though there's no other indication of where they're going on the front, so get a bus guide from the tourist office or the bus station). Buses are VERY cheap - most journeys from Valletta are 47 cents (except to the really far-flung places). There are day (and longer) passes, but they aren't really worth it. The drivers do make change, but they won't be very happy if you give them anything bigger than a 5 Euro note, so carry some loose change.

“Excellent hotel for short stay”

Staff were friendly and helpful at all times. Room was really comfortable and we were lucky to get one at the back that looked out over the roof tops to the harbour. Breakfast was OK with cereal, fruit , yoghurt, fresh bread, juice and coffee plus a small hot buffet. Evening meal was served from the buffet and probably best if you were first in (!) but very good value (3 courses for £10). However there are lots of good restaurants in Valletta and everywhere is easy walking distance. Hotel location is very convenient and quiet and I would reccommend anyone going to Valletta to stay inside the old city walls. From the Osborne you can get to the bus station or the Sliema ferry in 10 minutes. All in all a nice hotel and we would certainly stay there again.

Area recommendations
Don't miss the Co-Cathedral of St John but there is a lot of lovely architecture and history to be found all over the city and it is all within easy walking distance (but be warned that Valetta is a hill town and there are some steep hills).

“A good choice in Valetta”

There are not many hotels in Valetta proper. The Hotel Osborne is right in the city, just a few blocks from the sights and restaurants. We were generally happy with the hotel, particularly its location and price, except for the chaotic and lengthy check-in and the fact that neither the wi-fi nor the hair dryer worked. We would recommend the Osborne to travelers wanting to stay overnight in Valetta (except be aware that the town really shuts down at night).

Area recommendations
Valetta is not very big, so it almost doesn't matter where you stay. But, the Hotel Osborne is well located.

“Great location shame about the food”

The hotel has a feel of a transit camp as so many people arrive and depart from the rather small entrance, with piles of luggage waiting. The building is very old and in parts is beatiful, but is creaking and needs to be updated in oher parts. The food was terrible, breakfast used very cheap products being used, poorly cooked and very prefunctionary service. The evening meal was so unimaginative and slapped out on the buffet with no thought of a whole menu. Again the cheapest and often frozen products were used. I only managed one meal and went and found a small Maltese bistro serving good simple fresh local produce. Why cannot the Osborne do this? I met someone who had stayed last year who said the food then was really good and was mystified what had happened. The small roof terrace and plunge pool was good, although the sunbeds were chained down ! Wonderful views of the whole of the island from roof. The saving grace was the location, right in the centre of Valletta, but quiet at night. Yes I would return, but only for the location and would be fussy on which room I had as some are very dark with fusty carpets and electric light was required all day. You get what you pay for and I would suggest room only basis. Only just a three star hotel in my opinion.

Traveller's tip
Do take a trip around the Valletta harbours, on the smallest boat you can find. It gives you the understanding of what the Island is all about, it is awesome to look up at the fortifications and realise it was achieved without machinery, only slaves!

“If the hotel is not on your lists of sites to see”

The hotel was average. Old country feel upon entry and the hallways, then you see the room, where the decor changes to furniture of the put-together Swedish style. I had an atrocious smell coming from the bathroom, or perhaps the pipes along a wall, which was the only view, outside the bathroom window. The housekeeper tried to combat it with bleach daily. The service was good, but at times, was spread too thin between the front desk and restaurant. For a sightseer like me who pretty much just sleeps there, it was in a good location relative to public transportation, which is a priority for me. If you are looking for privacy, quiet, views, or ammenities, this is not your place.

“Nice Hotel, Perfect Location but don't eat there”

The location of the hotel was absolutely perfect - 5 min walk from the main bus terminus. The staff were very helpful and friendly. Unfortunately the only room we could book came with an evening meal - the food was appalling. No vegetarian option apart from a plate of soggy, grey vegetables and the meat options weren't much better. The restaurant wasn't particularly clean either.

Traveller's tip
Nice hotel to stay at but eat elsewhere - not many restaurants in Valletta itself so jump on a bus and go elsewhere to eat.

When to go
gia detto, ma ripetiamo febbraio , e principalmente in occasione della ricorrenza del salvataggio del naufragio di San Paolo che si svolge il 10 di febbraio.
