We were given a disabled room which was fine but shower pressure was non existent and the shower head was too low. Breakfast was good but took ages but staff were very apologetic for the wait.

Hi Chris, when I did your block booking it was the only other Double room available. Yes, in room 1 the shower is slightly lower to be more accessible to disabled guests. The lodge was full to capacity as you may have been aware, so breakfast was indeed delayed, but everything is cooked fresh to order, always the best way. Awful service. Waited 2 hours for our food when we were told its the best food and service in town from.the owner. No communication on why things were so late, after chasing we were informed no staff to cook in the kitchen. After promised great home cooking and waiting 2 hours we receievd our dinner. The pie was like something from a chip small and not made from scratch. Warmed up in the microwave. Also the room, again promised the best room loud traffic, creaking flopr boards and small bed. Next morning tills were down so gave us the wrong bill. I would not stay here, stay away.

A decent sized family room
We stayed one night in their family room, which is a very generous size. Lovely en-suite facilities, comfortable beds, friendly staff. There’s even a small outside play area. Breakfast wasn’t included, but was reasonably priced and they have excellent bacon! All in all very happy, and would stay again.

Room ok poor lighting in bathroom. Not cleaned properly when we arrived - (a part can of coke and sweet wrappers left under bed) "Very" noisy due to main road. Room not serviced after first night(stayed 2 nights) Food not good at all -overcooked and tasteless -cheap ingredients and not good value. Had to book a time for breakfast but the table wasn't even laid up when we arrived and we then had to wait half an hour until we were served. Breakfast poor didn't receive what was ordered - poor quality and limited selection. Manager (?) very abrupt and not at all friendly - in desperate need of hospitality training! Would not recommend and definitely would not stay again.

Thankyou for your review As you have remained anonymous i cant visualise who you were and i cant really comment. I will kindly take this review not too seriously as we are always recieving great reviews as per meals and bfast and stays. It appears that you have done your upmost to write the worst review possible for some reason. Never did you raise any concerns at all throughout your stay. If you didnt book bfast the table wouldnt be prepared for you. As far as im concerned we have the best cleaning staff i could wish for. I would not rate it as a 4star. Bar closed at 8pm on our first night. Very disappointed. Our first holiday in 16 months expected more.

Great place to explore the Forest of Dean
We stayed for a one night stay while doing some cycling in the forest of dean. Comfortable beds, cosy & clean room with a good atmosphere.

Hosts were very friendly and efficient. Room was spacious and very clean. Bed was comfortable. It was a little noisy from traffic first thing in the morning but it did not keep us awake at night. The food was very good as was the breakfast.

Lovely stay, the room was comfortable and spacious. Great location for visiting many places in the Forest of Dean. We had both dinner and breakfast at the pub and both were very good with quality ingredients and large portions.

Very helpful staff and a beautiful property. The food was delicious and well organised despite social distancing at the moment. A great family room that the boys enjoyed very much. The only issue was it was slightly noisy near the road, so sleep was quite disturbed.

Grumpy Pants owner with no business sense
Other reviews comment on the grumpy Manager and sadly I have to agree. The staff , service and food were all good. But the owner Manager needs to learn about customer service. He rang us at 20.10 to tell us the kitchen was shutting at 20.30 which is very early. We made it on time even though there was a road closure diversion outside the Hotel which he would have known about. We quickly ordered food and in error my friend who does not eat pork did not read the menu in full and the burger came as standard with bacon. Waitress was really understanding and said she would get another one, then grumpy pants came out and said as it was not their error he would have to charge us for another one. My friend said dont bother and we shared my dinner. We then decided not to have any more drinks and we went elsewhere for breakfast and we wont be going back next month when on business. So he lost the revenue for extra drinks and two breakfasts and future bookings over the ingredients for one burger which would have probably been no more than £2. If the kitchen was not closing at a crazy early time for a Hotel we would not have been rushing and may well have noticed the bacon. He is in the wrong trade but his wife, daughter and other staff were all very nice. Very good food cooked by his daughter, perhaps she should run the place and he should retire.

Thank you for your not very pleasant review. We rang to ask about an evening meal as yes, on very quiet nights we will shut the kitchen down early. We are not a Hotel chain, we are a small family business Its called business sense. You was called and asked if you would like an evening meal out of courtesy, and told that what ever time you arrived we would not see you go hungry. There was no rush to take your order at all and as for the burger, it states clearly in the menu it has bacon with it, YOUR words to your colleague was.... its your fault you should have read the menu properly. We did say we could cook you another burger, there would be a small supplement or we could cook you another meal which you declined Sorry you wont be staying again Kind Regards

Pleasant staff, good selection of food. Breakfasts very enjoyable. Rooms are clean and well equipped, but thin walls do little to block out conversation and television sound from other rooms. Wifi was a bit iffy, but adequate.

The property was a good central location in Aylburton and ideally located to watch the carnival procession. The food was good and, although the wine list was limited, the atmosphere was tremendous.

Beware of the owner!
Lovely accommodation although the owner needs some training on his people skills! as his approach with other guests who have stayed there had noticed his abrupt attitude too!

The room and property were very tasteful, very handy for Wye Valley walking. Unfortunately the owner didn't seem very happy in his work which was a bit off putting. Wouldn't stay there again for this reason.

The room was clean, but had an overpowering scent diffuser when I ended up having to stash in the cupboard. The shower nearly burnt me although I started it on the coolest setting. Terrible water pressure and a bulb was out over the sink so it was pretty dim. The walls were paper thin, so my neighbors, their tv, and baby could be heard very easily. Luckily they were not too vocal, but the other room we had wasn’t so fortunate. They also suffered from low water pressure ine the shower, the toilet was pretty hard to flush, and the upstairs neighbors could be heard all night. The meal was decent, nothing spectacular, and the wait staff was charming. Breakfast ok, again nice wait staff.

Thankyou for your review.Just to respond i immediately replaced the bulb over the sink for you as soon as possible, The shower does have adequate pressure and when using the shower it is always advisable to hand test the water temp until it is of the right temperature for your requirement. The toilets are always tested every day by the cleaning staff during cleaning and any faults are immediately serviced by our local contracted heating engineer. Kind regards Ian & Carole

Thankyou for your review and thoughts Just to reply to your review the boiler is brand new and sits 3 rooms from the room from which you were staying which im afraid i cant do anything about on this occasion, and the wifi connection is usually very good we also have 2 bt hubs 5s in the pub which is also free to use.
