Not for holiday maker to stay

Posted 31-Mar-2014
Pros: Staff is nice and friendly
Location: Location is central between senggigi and mataram.
Didn't like the cottage room as it look old and 'sad' interior. Had to ask for a change of room and ended up in Jnr Suite which was alot better, newer and bigger room (of coz we pay additional for the suite).

Beautiful pool area

Six of us stayed 9 nights at the Jayakarta for a family holiday. We started in the standard rooms which were fairly basic, but with everything you need. The beds were really comfy with great pillows, and the rooms were kept spotless with clean linen every day - which is far more important than the decor. We were upgraded to the junior suites due to a problem with the hot water (which we hadn't noticed), and those rooms were lovely. The best part of the hotel is the area around the swimming pool which is just gorgeous. The only downside is the cost of drinks at the pool bar, $7 for a 600ml Bintang or $10 for a cocktail (which is on par with other hotels e.g. The Sheraton). We bought our own drinks to take to the pool, and virtually nobody drinks at the bar because of the cost which is a shame. The restaurants in Sengiggi charge about $3.50 to $4 for a large Bintang, and if the hotel charged the same we would have bought drinks there, instead they have staff standing around all day doing nothing! The staff are great, very friendly and helpful. It is a $2 taxi ride into the centre of Sengiggi where there are lots of good restaurants, and $5 to the Mataram mall for shopping, although the shopping in Lombok is not nearly as good as Bali. Also the beaches in Sengiggi are not great, but we were more than happy to just stay by the pool. I would definitely stay at the Jayakarta again, we thoroughly enjoyed our time there.

very old and smelly

Posted 13-Jan-2014 on Hotels.com
This hotel is very dated we had to switch rooms the first night as the bathroom flooded. The next room had no hot water for 3 days - luckily the weather was warn so no big deal. The rooms are old and dated and smell very musty. One of the days we were walking back to the room and pest controllers were spraying the gardens with a smoke like pesticide which was quite potent and we were not advised this was happening! This hotel is run by Indonesians and some of the staff cannot understand English. Breakfast was ok with a mix of Asian and western food.

Looking a little dated - but good value.

This is a large hotel for the area. It has beautiful grounds but the hotel facilities are showing their age. The location is not great. There are no decent restaurants/points of interest nearby (other than the hotel itself) without taking a taxi into Senggigi. Decent value with the discount offered.

Old and a bit tired but clean and staff are friendly & helpful. Garden setting is lovely and pool is great. Restaurant meals are average but economical. A good stay at the price if you're not after 4-5 star luxury.

Average place, but not something I would recommend

Posted 14-Dec-2012
Pros: Staff was friendly and could communicate well enough in English
Cons: Power outages, wi-fi wasn't working, beach not very pleasant
Location: Strategically located not too far from Mataram and in between Gili islands and Kuta beach
Pricing was affordable. You get what you pay for. Our group was upgraded to the Cottage Room, which was a pleasant surprise, but given that we were there during the off peak season, I guess it wasn't a big deal for them since there weren't many guests. There were three things that would have made the place better and the stay more enjoyable: - there were frequent power outages during our stay, though that could have been an island-wide issue - the wi-fi at the lobby was not working over the 4 days we were there, which was disappointing - the beach that the hotel faces is not worth your time compared to the Gili islands or Kuta beach; you will definitely not want to spend your time there relaxing/swimming All in all, it's an ok place, but not somewhere I'd recommend my friends to go to

Comfortable and affordable

The Jayakarta is a perfectly comfortable hotel. It wasn't particularly fancy, so don't expect 5 star resort, but the room was clean and comfortable, the pool and grounds were beautiful, and the food was good. The staff was very friendly, though there was a bit of a language barrier as there weren't too many people who spoke much English and our Indonesian is severely lacking. Also the "private beach" was still full of people trying to sell baubles and it was a bit dirty, though that's not the hotel's fault. We stuck to the pool! We had a great time and would definitely stay again.
