“Dirty, windowless and noisy”
The Cocoon at the Internation Inn is affordable but it is worth paying more. Main complaint: I had trouble sleeping because of the noise. It's not so much that people were talking in the corridors particularly loud (they were) that kept me up, but mostly noise that had to do with the Inn's structure. The floors from above cracked constantly (the rooms are in the basement), you could really hear people coming down the stairs, and the doors were very, very noisy (you had to slam the door, otherwise it wouldn't lock, so people slammed away). Second problem was that the room wasn't all that clean. First thing I noticed when I went to the bathroom was a pubic hair on the toilet bowl. It's not that the room was particularly dirty, but it seemed like it had gone through years of sloppy, cutting-corner, cleanings. The walls showed numerous signs of previous visitors. I also found myself really missing the windows. To compensate for the lack of light, there's a blue light on the ceiling that stays on all night. There's no way of turning it off. It's presence, per se, makes sense in that it would otherwise be extremelly dark. But it should be located somewhere else. The light also contributed to my problems sleeping, since I hadn't brought anything to cover my eyes. Finally: you should know that the rooms do not have a hair dryer, and that they are not serviced during your stay (so if you need clean towels, or a refill of tea or coffee, you have to ask for it)
“Pay a little more for serviced rooms, views and breakfast”
Liverpool is an expensive city to stay in so the Cocoon appears to be a relative bargain, even when you find out it has no windows and no breakfast in the rate. The location is certainly excellent. I won't recommend it only because there are much better options that include breakfast and great views for only a very little more money here on Expedia (as I later experienced). My comments in no particular order: The guy on reception was very welcoming and helpful. The Cocoon is an intriguing (and narrow) warren of rooms in the basement, but there was a fire exit right near to my room so no worries about that. The room was clean, modern and well appointed with no problems receiving (unsecured) wi-fi on my laptop despite being at the furthest end of the corridor. Excellent en-suite shower, and a large flat panel TV. Also hairdryer and Tea and coffee, hence the 3 stars are justified. I did sleep well here and heard no noise. Airport taxis are easy to book from the direct phone in reception. HOWEVER, the lady on reception in the morning was unable to get our room safe to work so I could not use it. She did not offer to keep any of my valuables for me, assuring me that "the rooms are not serviced every day" so nobody would be coming into my room. This means you get no clean towels and no new tea bags/coffee sachets and nobody makes your bed up. This has to be pretty poor for the money. (We had booked just two nights.)
“Very nice hotel”
At first glance, I was surprised with how the hotel is set up, but then it all made more sense :) The hotel is basement-based but that won't effect your stay much. The only problem that this has is that the room has no windows but the air circulation was excellent so that wasn't a problem. The room is equipped with all amenities. There's a good gamesroom where you could spend some free time playing pool or playstation :) The location of the hotel is quite good and central. Everyone loved the stay there.
“COCOON ME UP, SCOTTY!”
Fantastic location, so central and convenient. Very clean room & bathroom, excellent experience!! The lighting in the room (no windows) is a bit odd to begin with but totally excusable given the really cheap rates the hotel offer. Would definitely stay here again.
“Great deal in Liverpool city centre”
The hotel is brand new, and the rooms are neat. It's situated near the two cathedrals and around the corner from the Philharmonic pub (definitely a place to check out). The only thing that was a bit annoying is that you can't regulate the temperature of the room yourself, so the room was getting too hot sometimes. The room had a great shower too!
“Hidden Treasure”
From the outside i was dubious as it's tucked down a narrow side road and there was scaffolding. Upon entering the front desk staff was very helpful and friendly. The rooms were very clean and modern. The shower was one of the best showers i've ever had, great water pressure! It's located close to the city center, about a 5-10 minute walk. I would recommend Cocoon@International Inn and would definately stay there again.
“Good for Students”
This hotel is really a place for traveling students. It's located in a student area (right near the university's student center, in fact). There are plenty of cafes, pubs, restaurants and other places to get food close by. What I liked most about it was that it was close to the two things I had come to see: the cathedrals. Most everything is in easy walking distance (including the museums)- as long as you're used to walking, that is. The security is pretty good- the cocoon is separate from the International Inn and requires keycard access both to get into that area of the hotel and to get into your room. The desk is manned at all hours. They ask you what you have come to see when you get in, and show you where it is on a map. I found the map they gave me quite useful. They have free wifi, though I couldn't get it in my room. This wasn't too much of a problem though- I just sat in one of the seats in the hall. The cleanliness of the place was below par for a hotel, but for a hostel it was probably pretty good. The only real problem was that the sheets didn't seem quite clean enough. There were some weird stains on the duvet- though I just took that off. There were a few hairs on the sheets, but other than that they seemed clean. If you're used to midrange hotel standards, you might be put off by this. For a traveling student on a budget, it's pretty good accommodation.
“Great low budget small hotel, would definately stay there again. Very good for the price”
Very nice, clean, modern hotel. The staff were friendly and helpful. Suprised by how nice my room and bathroom was with power shower for the money. All rooms in basement without windows, I found this okay but others might not. Big digital telly and tea and cofee. Only gripe was my room was not cleaned or tea and coffe replenished on second day and when I asked they forgot. I asked for tea and coffee when I go in late and they gave me lots. That was the only blip on a very nice stay. I had a king-size bed, maybe other rooms were smaller, mine was a decent size.
“Great value”
An excellent hotel and location if you simply want a good bed and a good en-suite. No breakfast - and no windows. Handy location.
“Cocoon”
Le personnel est très sympathique, accueillant et disponible. L'hôtel est propre et les chambres doubles sont petites mais agréable. Le rapport qualité prix est très bon. Seul point négatif, un peu de bruit à l'heure de rentré des clubs...
