We chose the penthouse, because I felt like a penthouse would be good. It wasn’t. We flew late at night from the US only to learn that the penthouse was on the 5th floor and they didn’t have an elevator. This made it impossible to stop by quickly at the hotel to get a hat or quickly change a shirt. We didn’t stay. We left the same night and went and stayed at their sister property with an elevator. From what I could see, the penthouse terrace was nice but I wasn’t about to do stairs the whole time.

Every thing was fine except the non availability of lift. I am a 70 years old senior citizen and given a room on 4th floor. I had to jump 64 stairs to reach in room. It was difficult to go second time in room in day

We were in a "Deluxe" room which was too small by normal standards - cramped interior with things hemmed in! There was not much space to freely move around. There was no shower curtain to start with and the hotel provided a hot water kettle after reminders. Prompt and pleasing staff service with a good breakfast.

Like sleeping in a space ship in the center of Kathmandu , our stay at the Aria was out of this world ! Beautiful facility, wonderful staff, and free hot breakfast once a day ( available for order) , what more could you ask for? 10/10 Can’t wait to stay at another Aria.

My stay at the Aria Boutique Hotel was fantastic! The staff were very quick in replying to my messages when I requested airport transfer to the hotel, which was especially important after my long flight didn't arrive until after 11pm. The taxi they arranged got my trip off to a good start. Check-in was very easy and I loved the room. There were so many little things that combined to provide a great experience. I still smile about the various door hangers that I could choose from. Having breakfast (great Nepali omelette) at any time was great when I was recovering from early or late travelling. The hotel is in a great location, just a short walk to Durbar Square and the Garden of Dreams, while also next to all the restaurants, shops and bars in Thamel, and the hotel spa gave an excellent massage to relax my legs from all the walking and exploring. The hotel reception were so helpful in booking and giving suggestions about tours, which gave me 3 incredible days of memories. All in all - excellent and I'd definately stay there again!

They first put me in a room that had mildew. When I complained, they moved me to another room with less mildew. On my last night, I saw two cockaroaches in this room. Also, the water is discolored. This hotel is NOT a 4 star hotel. Not worth the price at all. Highly recommend you stay elsewhere.

Enjoy Kathmandu
The hotel staff are friendly and room ready when arrived. Room was clean, good WiFi. Breakfast is good with a good variety. It can be a little noisy, but that is Thamel in Kathmandu. So try to get a higher room or one facing the quieter street. Location is great for Thamel and walking to Durbar Square.

I would never recommend this hotel to anyone. The beds are rock hard, as were the pillows and comforter. There are no stuffed animals on the beds as depicted in the photos, as a big reason I chose this was I thought it was unique. I thought I was upgrading the room by choosing the deluxe twin room for my friend and I. The website description states “two bedrooms” which to me, means two separate bedrooms, apparently not at Aria; there is only 1 room; If I knew I was paying 5x the amount of other hotels in the area for the same type of room, I would have never stayed here. I then asked for the price that was listed on Expedia ($50 cheaper); the receptionist argued with me for an hour about the price. All I wanted was a little money back and he simply argued with me.i guess Aria doesn’t follow the unspoken rule about “the customer is always right” For 5 times the price of any other hotel in the area, I would expect so much more, such as clean towels, wash clothes, and a company which doesn’t take advantage of tourists. I also was emailed about a transfer to the hotel from the airport and I confirmed. The hotel representative didn’t write me back to confirm the transfer. I emailed her when I arrived in Katmandu and she said there was a driver with a sign. We waited an additional 15 mins for them to find a vehicle. They didn’t have any prepared info on activities that the manager offered to me. It was all talk.

Strip started off by the taxi driver telling me he couldn't drive on the street to Aria so I had to walk 2-3 km and ask a bunch of people where to it was. Finally found the Aria hotel but when I tried to check in they said my reservation was at their other hotel the Royal Penguin about 2 blocks away. Check in at the Royal Penguin was good, but took like 15 minutes. Room was nice, but not like the pictures of the Aria. Was excited to take a bath and relax only to find out the water looked like pee from a severely dehydrated person. Decided to just take a shower and go to bed after the day I had. The shower/steam contraption was a little confusing, but I managed to figure the remote control out and got 4 of the 7 shower heads to trickle water out. Opted to just go with the hand held shower head and shut the others off. Even then the water pressure was barely enough to wash the soap off my body, forget about the time it took to get the shampoo out of my hair. No sense in the hotel owner to spend all the money to make the rooms appear nice. I mean if you don't add water filtration system to the incoming line and a pressure tank for distribution you people will not enjoy all the effort you made in the appearance.. Anyway. Staff was awesome, food was great, room was okay, just disappointed I couldn't enjoy a relaxing soak as I planned.

Good location in middle of Thamel, friendly staff, good breakfast policy as you can order the included breakfast at any time of day, good breakfast choices. Internet was problematic but good when working. No elevator so be aware and request Low floor when booking if you have problems climbing stairs. Late check out fee of $10 per hour is also reasonable.

Hotel in centre of Kathmandu
A small and friendly hotel on busy main street of Thamel in Kathmandu. The hotel is advertised as 4 stars but is realistically closer to 2 or 3 stars. Hot water took 5 mins to come and the bathroom had mould. The gym and spa facilities were very basic. There was no elevator so it was especially inconvenient being on the 4th floor. The staff however were helpful and the food was good. With hindsight we would have preferred to stay somewhere quieter with a pool.

They try, but don't expect things to go right. The breakfast is great - it's tasty, filling, free, available any time starting at midnight, and by default is delivered to your room. The showers are awful - they take a few minutes to warm up, changes to the temperature are delayed by about 45sec, and the shower heads aren't securely mounted. We were told the plumbing was being upgraded but who knows. The decor is fun. No elevator, only bellhops. We saw a rat. We didn't get the rooms we reserved and only after complaining did we get some sort of comp. Location is good. Our taxi drivers recognized "JP Road" but they needed to call the hotel to understand the specific location.

Aria aka Royal Penguin
Location in Thamel neighborhood was perfect. Hotel food was excellent (Nepalese set plate was my favorite) and hotel was short walk from other top Katmandu coffee/bakery/eating places. But best of all were the helpfulness and friendliness of hotel staff. Every one the staff made me feel welcome and safe. When I left the hotel I felt like I was leaving friends.

Clean place in midst of a very dusty Kathmandu.
We found the staff very friendly, informative and helpful. Room was a little small & had a cluttered feeling with only room for one chair, when it had a King-sized bed. Room service was very good as we arrived very tired & had to leave early for a flight.

Expensive for the type of Hotel
Although Breakfast was included, we were charged extra for not ordering the set breakfast. Example if Omelet and toast are part of set breakfast, if you just order Omelet only you have to pay. Does not sound logical. Looks like order the set breakfast and just eat what u want and waste the rest of food.

Comfortable, pleasant but organize your own Taxi
The entrance to the hotel was very nice indeed, the reception staff were pleasant and helpful. The room was very nice however I was a little bit disappointed it was not as good or as big as the room I had Aunt the Royal penguin the year before. The food was good under the bed was comfortable. I ordered breakfast for 5:15 a.m. I had to leave at t6 a.m. unfortunately the breakfast did not arrive until 5.55 a.m. and I did not have time to eat. I took a taxi from the street as I felt that $15 was ridiculously expensive. The street Taxi cost me 600 rupees.

Bait and switch by both the hotel and hotels.com
I selected a room with a king size bed at the Aria Hotel in Kathmandu. The room was suppose to sleep 4 with a sleeper sofa. The email confirmation that I received did not show my selection - instead it showed a room with 2 twin size beds. When I arrived at the Aria Hotel, I was sent down the street to the Penguin Hotel and was give a standard room with a king size bed. So not only did hotels.com charge me for a room that I did not receive but the Aria Hotel did not provide me with a room. I don't appreciate paying for something and receiving something of inferior quality.

Very clean, comfortable and quiet. Couldn't ask for more in this great location. The bed is very comfortable and it has lovely, well appointed bathrooms. Wifi in every room. Nice breakfast included.
