Holiday
The Isle of Skye is beautiful and seeing seals on the rocks just 100 metres away a real treat. This cottage did not live up to our expectations due to the condition of some fixtures and fittings. The shower head was held together with cable ties and leaked, the bathroom taps were loose in the sink, the toilet seat was loose, the clamp on one of the bedside lights was broken, the small table had a very sticky surface and the entrance to the cottage needed decorating to make it welcoming.

Owner is amazing gentleman
While we ended up not staying in the property the reasons why I will not put in here. Richard the property owner was a great gentleman and easy to communicate with and the views from the property are amazing, as is the wildlife around the area. Top tip go the extra mile and take the old Skye ferry to get you to the property it's worth it!

I'm into wildlife photography so this cottage was perfect , if you enjoy peace and quiet , the night stars and watching the changing colours all around outside then this is the place for you. The cottage was immaculately clean and had everything we needed and was certainly excellent value for money, just remember this cottage was built in the 1800s and from the outside has kept all of its charm which we loved , the shower was fantastic aswell . I've been renting cottages on the West Cost of Scotland for over 25 years and this cottage for the price ticks all the boxes , we will certainly be returning in the future

Awful accommodation . Fousty and mould everywhere. No response from yourself regarding the terrible accommodation. Could not sleep in bedroom because of mould . Slept on couch fir the week aged 72. You are an appalling company . No response or offer of different accommodation. Will make sure I spread this far and wide. It’s about time tourists had some protection under the law.

The couple who stayed the previous week eMailed me on 20th September 2022 to say: …”We loved it. The cottage was perfect...so thank you very much. It was also immaculately clean.” You contacted me that same day saying the house was not clean and my keyholder went that afternoon and resolved your complaints. Thereafter you stayed in the house for the full seven days of the let. Following your visit all white goods you had pulled out to try to find fault were inspected after the plug you damaged thereby had given my keyholder a dangerous electric shock. The builder who had checked all the electrics prior to your entry repaired it, the cigarette butts left strewn outside the front door were all picked up and the duvet covered with black dog hair against my express conditions for bringing animals had to be removed for cleaning. This clear-up seemed to have sufficed, as the couple who stayed the following week wrote as follows:……”The cottage was immaculately clean and had everything we needed and was certainly excellent value for money...the shower was fantastic as well . I've been renting cottages on the West Coast of Scotland for over 25 years and this cottage for the price ticks all the boxes, we will certainly be returning in the future." Another major website advertising platform on 3rd October 2022 awarded me their “superhost” status for the house. I leave the matter for the reader to judge.

This is a lovely spot to get away from it all. It is clean & cosy. You won't be hassled by the phone or Facebook. You may see wildlife (seals, maybe an otter, heron & other seabirds) down on the beach 50yards away. Autumn sunrises have been lovely too. And Richard, the owner has been very helpful.

In Gaelic the island is "An t-Eilean Sgitheanach" meaning the Misty Isle and it's that moisture in the air which supplies the amazing light we see there. I've been there at Hogmanay and both unable to stand for the wind and, another time, in a T-shirt with the sea glass-flat at midnight. It is also one of two places Worldwide where I've had sunstroke but I admit if the rain sits things can be boring if you stay in. Sorry you didn't know this about the island but I hope there will still be a next time. Thank you for coming anyway

Charming croft in a beautiful, quiet location
If you enjoy wildlife this croft with a scenic outlook would be for you. With local knowledge we were able to view otters most nights, spotted sea (fish) eagles, golden eagles and not to mention an abundance of seals. We took a ferry trip over to Glenelg with our bikes, great pub for lunch, and saw broch (2000 year old dwellings). Lovely beach for any children over there. Visited the Black Cuillins for some great walks. Fairy pools although beautiful were over run with tourists. Seven mile single track drive to croft was exilerating.

Cosy & small. Close to beach where seals & otters seen. Remote in that there''s no Internet or phone signal in the cottage, but we got phone access halfway to the beach, yet less than 10 miles from Broadford. No ferry operating this year so possibly more people around when it does, but in mid-October, very few people around. Loved it! Will be back!

Peace, beauty and home comforts at The Croft
The Croft offers a magnificent base to explore Skye being located in the stunning picturesque Kylerhea. The property has all you need with excellent facilities and modern comforts. We saw the Otters at the nearby hide, the seals can be watched from the living room window and the common Hooded Crows were always pleasant. As a couple my wife and I loved our walks along the beach at dawn and dusk, such tranquility during such troubled times. We highly recommend staying, you will not be disappointed.

A little piece of heaven at the end of the world
Set in a wonderful location, with a group of some 25 seals virtually on the doorstep, the cottage is a great get-away from the stress of modern life. It holds what it promises, but if you go there in summer, be prepared to suffer from the midgets. Otter viewing hide close by is brilliant, saw plenty of wildlife (adder, eagle, otters, deer, oystercatchers, etc). Managed to reach all places on the isle by car. All in all, it was the perfect holiday for my son, our dog and me.

Absolutely fantastic location, a very short walk down to the beach where you can watch the seals at all times of the day. I also saw sea otters and a sea eagle by the slipway. The cottage is a home from home - don’t expect luxury, go to a hotel for that - I felt at home the moment I stepped inside. It had everything I needed and more with the perfect views . If you need a bit more padding on the bed or a softer mattress, I’d advise bringing along a memory foam topper.

The location and. Views are spectacular.
Lovely cottage. Nicely decorated. Only problems were an uncomfortable bed and couch. Lacking in support and very uncomfortable especially for those with ba k or neck problems. The bedroom is dark red and would benefit from a much lighter colour and a new duvet cover. It is brown and the room would be airy and inviting with white duvet cover and curtains and a new bed. The picture windows in the livimg and dining room are spectacular.

Complaints about the bed and sofa are curiously restricted to very few of you so, should you ask for remedial/medical level of bedding/seating when you (next) rent. I am confused by your: “Nicely decorated” followed by two lines suggesting cold colours for the bedroom. It was bright yellow once and is dark red (er, not brown !) now for the reason that is warm.

Description of the cottage does not live up to the photos of it.
Wow what an amazing location the cottage is in. Wonderful views and seals practically on the doorstep. However the cottage does not live up to expectations. The bedroom smelt really damp and mouldy even on the bed and the bedding, which was stained. We could not sit on the settee as the springs had gone and you just sink in. Not good if you have a back problem. We spent the week sat on the hard dining chairs, not very relaxing. The fire didn't work and the place was not as clean as I would have expected. Some outdoor seating would have been nice as the cottage is in a beautiful location. When it rained the gutters and downpipes leaked. However the main problems for us were the uninviting smell of the bedroom and bed and not being able to use the settees. The isle of Skye is beautiful but I would not come back to this cottage. We left a day early .
Stayed 7 nights in Jul 2018
Response from VrboOwner on 10 Aug 2023
The record reflects that the sofa is apparently good enough for most people so I can’t comment on the problem you had - bedding is always scrupulously cleaned but is now replaced anyway. The fire has been replaced but in July….seriously ? Storage heating was available anyway if required but I normally only charge for heating for Winter lets. Ex-crofthouses like that, set in in-bye in fields often don’t have guttering at all so: “When it rained the gutters and downpipes leaked” - again, seriously ? - it is apparent you are aping a previous reviewer but you had already gone for the “economy” end of the market by price with my house so it only begs the question of whether you went there as an aptitude test for a building surveyor job rather than as a holidaymaker….

Lovely location; simple/basic cottage
The location is everything and more than we could have hoped for. Loch and mountains and every kind of wildlife in all its glory. Basic cottage which was damp even during drought and only 2 towels and 1 tea towel for 3 adults.

Response from VrboOwner on 10 Aug 2023
Apologies about the third towel but is multiple tea towels a "thing" now, as I normally let hot, rinsed washing up drip dry and later wipe with a tea-towel before putting away. Anyway, I'll put two out so they can be rotated.

Wonderful spot
Sadly the standard of the accommodation was below expectations. We didn't expect modern facilities but we found the Croft was very tired and in places not clean. The electrics were a cause for concern especially the fire and the iron. The porch was in need of repair and the shower head wastaped to the rail! The downpipes and guttering were leaking. Happily the weather was kind to us and we did enjoy the property's location very much.
Stayed 7 nights in May 2018
Response from VrboOwner on 10 Aug 2023
I confirm that the standard of the accommodation was as described and, that the croft is cleaned assiduously, by someone who is very conscientious (kitchen cupboard tops, et al.) You allude to the iron and fire being “concerning” which of course I have to take seriously but, without your stating what you mean it is then no more than an insidious slight. Viz. They are kept in a warm and (usually) friendly environment with all their needs met but, how does this not just belie your opening caveat about your expectations of newness ? You are the first ever to comment on the downpipes outside while on a holiday to my house in the Misty Isle, which draws reflection more to you than the house because you will have known when making the observation that the downpipes lead to…the ground and that there is no run-off drainage system other than “natural.” I’m genuinely sorry your holiday wasn’t all you sought but can recommend Kinloch Lodge for next time.

Getting away from it all
This simple Croft is as described. Close to the loch edge with stunningly beautiful views all round and in a really peaceful location. A little peace of heaven at the end of the earth
After what feels like driving to the end of the earth (which is actually 21 minutes drive down a single track, hilly road; albeit with great views) you get to Kylerhea. There are just a few cottages and 1B is Richard's. It is a cute cottage with everything you need for a get away from modern life. The living room and kitchen windows look like picture postcards. It is lovely to sit and do a jigsaw (we brought one but he has some there), with a cuppa or a glass of wine and enjoy the views. There were lots of clean towels. It is a lovely walk to see the ferry or up to the hide to look for birds or seals. In fact we saw seals right next to the pebbled beach twice while were there. Yes there is no internet or phone reception but that is what we wanted, to get away from it all. Although a couple of people we spoke to had occasionally got a phone reception near by. Richard gave us good directions to get there and it was clean and tidy when we arrived. Lockalsh and Broadford are about half an hour away, if you need some shops...petrol cheaper in Broadford. We had a wonderful holiday and are missing it already, we would certainly go back!

Amazing View
My girlfriend and me really enjoyed the stay! Our house was very clean and well equipped. The nature around is amazing, the view outside of any window is stunning and the 15 minute drive (when I knew the road better, first drive was rainy, foggy and 25 minutes) on the road to Kylerhea is an adventure in itself. We really had an amazing week and would totally recommend the shack. Also communication with landlord Robert was very quick and friendly. Only thing to concider was, as it is a coastal house, it is a little bit moist in the rooms, especially when it rained for the first two days. On our third day we could dry our sheets, towels and pillows outside. A second set of sheets would have been great. Still it's an ideal cottage for those who want to relax, calm down and enjoy the Isle of Skye.

Superbe!
