We stayed at this small hotel in Rennes for 6 nights in October 2010. We were very pleased. The room was clean, comfortable and recently renovated. Windows open. We had an ensuite bathroom with a shower. There is an elevator for you and your baggage. Staff speak some English and are quite helpful. The hotel has a small brasserie/bar. We had several suppers there. The food and service were good. It has a pub style atmosphere and unique decor with an inverted billiard table on the ceiling. Also modest prices.
The neighbourhood is good and has other restaurants and bakeries. There is a coin operated laundromat a block away. The fine arts museum is just a few blocks up the street along with Jardin du Thabor. A big, relatively new museum about Brittany is two blocks west of the hotel, in the same building as the public library which offers free internet service for those who travel without their own laptops.
The hotel is an easy two block walk north from the train and intercity bus stations. We used Rennes as a base for several day trips to Dinan, St Malo and Mont St Michel, all easily reached by bus at modest cost and no hassle from the "gare routiere" in Rennes. All of these destinations are well worth visiting.
We would definitely stay at this hotel again.
