The Hospital of Santa Cruz is a hospital located in Carnaxide, Oeiras, 20 minutes away from Lisbon by car. The hospital opened its doors in 1980 on the former premises of a 1960’s private clinic, which closed following the Carnation Revolution of 25th April 1974, with the aim of providing specialist care in the areas of cardiology (medical and surgical) and nephrology.
Today, the hospital is a pioneering facility that operates under the guiding principles of achieving technical excellence in each specialized field with a focus on employing the highest levels of technical innovation. It has played an important role in the field of renal transplantation and kidney transplantation from live donors.
In 2005, the hospital was integrated into the Hospital West Lisbon, EPE, together with the Hospital Egas Moniz and St. Francisco Xavier Hospital.
The guiding philosophy of the hospital is to combine professional and scientific rigour with respect for the dignity of patients.
