The city’s emblem is known for its superb stained-glass windows, underground treasure chambers and tall tower with spectacular views.
This picturesque cobblestone street has a fascinating medieval history and crooked buildings that appear to almost fall into one another.
You can take time to visit York Racecourse during your travels to York. Visit the shops and lively bars in this family-friendly area.
See some of York’s most impressive sights on a walk around the historic perimeter wall that has its origins in the Roman era.
Imagine yourself as a Viking in this museum that allows you to dig up Norse artifacts and witness reenactments, while you learn about York’s Scandinavian settlers.
Relive two centuries of British rail history at this museum with over 100 vehicles, a huge library and a play area.

Helmsley is a charming small country town near Sutton Bank in Yorkshire, but 25 miles away from York itself.
Lovely town some great small local shops well worth a visit ,
Visited the Arts Centre which was an excellent venue for a folk concert. Helmsley is a great place for food shopping and a very convenient base for walking etc.
Wonderful quaint town.
It was just an overnight stop for us on our way back from Edinburgh. Lovely place, picturesque and well worth a walk around.
