A hidden gem .... we booked one of the suite rooms ... spa on the outside balcony, spa in the bathroom ... gas fire in the lounging area and a bed that was just brilliant ... highly recommend it. Did not get to sample the restaurant however I suspect it was as good as the rest of the lodge.

Two joint single beds given instead of one king bed. Both single beds deep from the middle and caused us back pain.

The staff provided excellent customer service. Chamod and James, the chefs, cooked amazing food. Chaminda, who served us, was very professional. The front office staff was professional and attentive during our stay.

I must admit for a 5star hotel the service was slow, we waited 45 mins to be checked (check in was at 3) and then waited 50mins for our dessert after dinner. The room itself was unclean, the tv would not work as it kept shutting off. The cutlery in room was dirty and surfaces hadn’t been wiped/coffee spills ect Apart from that the staff were friendly and the spa was great. I would book again however would need to be more thorough with the clean.

Was looking forward to the 2 spa facilities but very disappointed, Indoor spa bath in need of a good clean, jets were turned on lots of brown flakes blew into the bath, was filled 3 times and still had brown floaties was pretty gross and wasnt used. The outdoor spa was better but had hair floating around and also clinging to the filter. Face cloth was obviously stained. Bed blankets had stains. On arrival bed was made pretty poorly. Fridge was not cooling no matter what setting it was on. Was disappointed about both spas as that was the draw card for us. Great views from the room & quiet surrounds.

Very lovely property but just starting to see signs of neglect in gardens and surrounds. Room was very clean. No staff at all after 5pm, restaurant and bar not open, which wasn’t communicated clearly when booking. We were left with a note at reception to open our door with a key and the lock had a cover over the keyhole that we couldn’t remove. No one answered the after hours number and we had to wander around what seemed to be a ghost hotel until fortunately we found a friendly and helpful maintenance person who was able to let us into our room. Adequate breakfast with friendly breakfast staff person.

Loved the experience overall, well worth it. Reastaurant staff needed more than one request to keep up with the breakfast service in the restaurant. Dishes piled up on tables, clean dishes ran out as well as frsh OJ ect.

A strange mix of luxury and basic errors. Huge room, with many luxury features, but....had to transport our own bags on a luggage trolley to the room; only two hangers in the wardrobe (quickly remedied by staff); room safe didn’t open an when maintenance fixed that, wouldn't close, so given override key; door onto balcony wouldn't lock, but 1st floor and a quiet location so not a big deal but still unnerving; hot tub showing error messages so wouldn't work (real 1st world problem that but then its supposedly a 5* hotel); finally food in restaurant very average for the class of hotel. Great room but too many niggles.

Exceptional. We have travelled extensively in N.Z. and internationally, and this would be the quietest room we have stayed in. Well soundproofed, spacious, tastefully decorated, beautiful and expansive views from the room, and a comfortable bed combined ensuring a good nights sleep. Handy to Hanmer (about 5-6kms away) with all it's attractions. Only stayed 1 night, but will be back.

This was once a wonderful special place to stay, but unfortunately its lost its sparkle. Room smelt like stale smoke, spa pool water wasnt clean. Meals were lovely but limited. No steak or Salmon, which was advertised on wedsite menu. Over all an average experince.

Suite was a great size and views were beautiful but room itself was dusty.. no hand towels available in bathroom. Only two flute glasses available in the room despite providing red and white wine in bar fridge. Spa was not clean and no steps available to get in and out of. Also not impressed that we had stayed away from our room until just after 3pm to allow time for room to be serviced but when we returned it had still not been completed. It was serviced at all… only some clean towels were dropped in quickly.

Expected more!
Nobody at reception desk at 5.15 on arrival. Transported own luggage (some distance) via lift and long corridor. Breakfast was quite adequate. Did not have dinner in hotel. Very large room, but no drawers for unpacking clothes, so had to use suitcases. Large double bath/spa needs grab handles for safety. Had lovely weather for three days.

It was a perfect spot for our honeymoon. Staff were amazing and went above and beyond. Breakfast was perfect and the room was just awesome. It was a really good holiday for a couple on a cheap budget.

We loved our stay at Braemar. The room was beautiful and very comfortable, staff were lovely, and the on site restaurant meant we didn’t have to go far after our delicious meal! We will definitely be back.
