Spent our second week in Crete at the Asterias Village at the end of June 2015. We were slightly worried because of the 1 star rating on Expedia but the pictures looked nice and the reviews on trip advisor were overwhelmingly positive.
I must say that I cannot fathom how this has 1 star. More realistically would be a 3 star, has all the basics to a reasonable standard, nothing fancy but what more do you want, you come for the weather the at the end of the day.
Pool was lovely, quiet (we went when it wasn't quite school holidays so may be different in August) and there are cracking views out to see from the pool area.
We paid for a sea view and were not disappointed, would recommend the extra expense.
We didn't eat at the hotel restaurant (Oliva's), there are so many tavernas in Koutouloufari we didn't feel the need. Eating out is not expensive at all and every meal we had was superb!
The only criticism would be 7 euro per day for air con in the room is a bit steep. We didn't get it and just left the window and balcony doors open for some air which was fine except for the odd mosquito!
All in all a great place to go and would definitely recommend it to others.
