“We splurged and left happy!”
The Ritz-Carlton on Grand Cayman offers first-rate service and quality accommodations on one of the prettiest beaches in the world. Expect to be pampered...and expect to pay for it. The hotel itself looks like every other Ritz-Carlton in the world; the design scheme is colonial elegance rather than tropical resort. All of the resorts on Seven-Mile Beach are very close together and just off the main road that runs around the perimeter of the the island. The Ritz actually straddles the road with an "art gallery" bridge spanning the road. With the piped in music, you don't even realize you're crossing the road. I highly recommend staying on the beach side of the hotel if possible. It's marginally more expensive but much better value. The "garden side" has no real views. We had a tremendous five days at the resort, but it is expensive. As of December 11, a poolside beer is about $8.50 and rum drink about $17 with the 15% tip included on the bill. Luckily, there is a supermarket and several liquor stores only a five-minute walk away. That helped keep breakfast and sunset bottles of wine within reason.
“Impressive”
Visited the Ritz Carlton Grand Cayman for one week during November 2011. Everything lived up to expectations, we had a wonderful stay. Only little problem experienced was with the concierge who were consistently slow answering the phone but this has been reported to them and I am sure will be addressed. The hotel is situated right in the middle of seven mile beach with direct access onto the most wonderful clean soft white sandy beach. There are plenty of very good restaurants in the near vicinity if you don't want to eat in the hotel however the restaurants in the hotel itself are excellent. Outside the hotel everything is very clean and it feels very safe walking about. It is approximately 50 mins to one hour to walk into George Town or you could take a local bus or taxi. Taxis tend to be quite pricey in Grand Cayman. We would definitely return to this hotel.
“The perfect anniversary destination!”
The Ritz-Carlton, Grand Cayman completely lived up to the name. From the moment we arrived until the moment we checked out, we had nothing but the best service. The Silver Rain Spa facility and staff was exceptional. 7 Prime Cuts & Sunsets offered us a very romantic anniversary dinner and the steak was superb! We took a risk by visiting the island in October, near the end of the rainy/hurricane season, but we felt it worked to our advantage. The hotel was not crowded, therefore we had our choice of lounge chairs around the pool or on the beach. Overall, one of my best vacations, and I can't wait to go back!
“Only slightly better than a Marriott”
May be the best hotel on the island, but is only due to the inferior hotels overall in the Caymans when you compare to other destinations. Was shocked when I checked into my room to find an old 27' box TV. This speaks to the age of the room furnishings, which have to be at least 15+ years old. In fairness to the Ritz, room was in good condition, just older and dated casegoods (I think I remember this wicker style furniture at the Hilton in Hawaii in 2000). Food service around pool and beach slow with vanishing wait staff. Ate first night at Periwinkles, pizza was worse than a frozen one from the store - I would guess they don't have a pizza oven as the crust seemed like it was baked in a regular oven. Salads were very good. Because of this poor first experience, eat out for dinner the rest of the week. When we first asked concierge for dining recommendations, he pointed to a book on the counter and said that was a listing of area hotels. No recommendations, no offer of reservations, just a do it yourself approach. Other concierge were better. Overall, this hotel is average and probably better than other hotels on the island. Others on our dive boat stated hotels were generally average and most people stay in condos. If this Ritz was in a more popular location or island, it would likely be downgraded to a Marriott.
“Vacation of a lifetime”
The service was impeccable. The afternoon maid would leave thank you notes when we left a tip. I felt that was incredibly thoughful and personal. The pools were great. The hotel restaurants served good food and Prime seven had the best servers. The rooms were comfortable and I loved sitting out on the balcony in the early morning drinking my complimentary coffee and reading my complimentary New York Times Digest. What a wonderful place to stay.
“Ritz Carlton Grand Cayman...Awesome all around ...”
We had a wonderful stay at the Ritz in Grand Cayman. If you can get passed the price of everything....all your needs will be met. It is on the most beautiful beach and all the rooms are situated for great views.
“Beautiful Hotel & beach but most charges are obscene”
Even though the location and beauty of the Hotel and beach are extraordinary, it's ruined by the obscene charges for food, beach & and spa services. The first night we arrived, 6 of us had dinner at Seven, their casual restaurant and the bill came to $500 even though 2 of us had salad only. $240 for a massage, $240-$450 plus $100 per person for a cabana and that's just for starters. Oh yes, the wireless internet was free BUT it didn't work in 50% of the Hotel and was the slowest I've ever encountered anywhere. It could have been a wonderful stay but we felt like we were getting fleeced at every turn...very dissappointing!!!
“The best vacation - everything we expected and more!!”
This was our first time visiting the Cayman; we have stayed at Ritz Hotel’s in the past. The hotel was absolutely beautiful. Our intention was a vacation of RR and that is exactly what we got. The beach was amazing. The pool, rooms and overall hotel were above our expectations. If you are looking for a quality, outstanding service, good food hotel – The Ritz is top notch. The staff was amazing! Food is pricey but, the service and overall accommodations make up for it. I recommend trying restaurants outside of the hotel, they are much more affordable and just as good. Signed, Very Satisfied!!
“First stay at a Ritz”
They are all about service. Best hotel stay ever. Everybody knows your name. Food was fantastic.
“Well below previous experience”
Long check in, no room to relax at either pool-ocean or smaller pool near gym with chairs already "taken". It appears hotel employees take gratuities to "pre-reserve" beach, pool chairs which is against hotel policy. Despite having visited 3x in last 2 years plus having rented 8 rooms in total was assigned an awful room just below working kitchen. Noise was noticable at all hours. No greeting/nor welcome back at checkin. I highly suggest that you avoid this hotel at peak times. It's just not worth the money (which is very expensive at peak)
