Near town, with country feel.

Posted 21-May-2015
Pros: Parkland backdrop screens beautiful garden; restaurant overlooking lake, river and mini waterfall; my bedroom also shared this tranquil landscape.
Cons: Mini bar in room; softer, more luxurious pillows; To compensate for lack of lift, a visible Porter in foyer area, immediately on hand to carry luggage
Location: Close to a beautifully preserved town of architectural interest; a wealth of quaint Cotswold villages near by,nestled in picturesque countryside.
Approximately 15'' from Cheltenham Spa train station/ town centre by taxi. I was here for a Residential Course, so it was a perfect combination for me.

It was good!

Posted 17-May-2015
Pros: The position and the view from one of our bedrooms.
Cons: The quantity of the bar food and the quality of the Prosecco.
Location: Just outside Cheltenham, very beautiful countryside: Cotswolds.
The hotel looks very nice from the outside and the views from some of the rooms are stunning. It is comfortable and traditional, a bit worn and shabby in places, but overall clean with very friendly staff. The breakfast was generous and had a lot of variety, i.e. cooked Engl. breakfast and continental fare, pastries, fresh fruits etc. The only disappointment to us was the bar food, we ordered an "asparagus and roasted shallot tart with leaves", which we thought at £11.95 each would be an adequate supper, but although we were given 4 small green asparagus spears on the plate the tart was just a very small round disc of puff pastry with a few roasted bits of onion and tiny bits of chopped asparagus on it, really more like an appetiser or a first course, it was not a supper dish! The Prosecco also was not of a very high quality, (I think it was £4.40 per glass), so after all that we went out to a local shop and bought an ice cream! We thought the money they lose on the big breakfast they offer they probably gain on the bar food! We would stay again but eat out..

Good location, friendly staff and clean room

Posted 09-May-2015
Pros: Friendly staff, always had a smile and a friendly greeting, the food was good too
Cons: The decor of the hotel, very dated and tired looking
Location: Great location, close drive to the famous villages and the town
Stayed for three nights. The hotel could do with a make over it is very dated and a bit shabby. The staff were very friendly and welcoming. I upgraded the room as we were looking out at the bin area, it was a good move and we had robes, slippers, water and chocolates in the room but only on the first day. The location of the hotel was good central to All the tourist areas.

Lovely views.

This hotel has lots of character and was just what we were looking for in our mini break. Only downpoint was the creaky floorboards in the corridor, which woke us up late at night. Good pool facilities was a plus.

Spa day and stay

Posted 22-Feb-2015 on Hotels
Added a night at the hotel to the Groupon Spa day voucher we received for Christmas. The 'Spa' day was very disappointing as we had expected a better quality pool experience. The massages themselves were fabulous and almost compensated for the grim and shabby pool and 'spa' area. The hotel is tired and old fashioned. Dinner was Ok and the dining area was better than the rest of the hotel, but has no adjacent bar which was disappointing. We will not be returning.
