Recently refurbished

Posted 18-Dec-2014
Pros: Superb bar and restaurant and the place had just been refurbished to a high standard
Expected good based on reviews we had read prior to booking; this hotel exceeded our expectations! The staff were extremely friendly and welcoming. The room we booked was clean, the bed was vey comfortable. There was live music as we stayed Friday night and prior to that we had a superb meal in the restaurant. Breakfast was equally good the following morning. We would recommend this hotel to anyone!!

It's a good pub Hotel

Posted 27-Nov-2014
Pros: Small and friendly hotel.
Cons: Nothing as far as I can find.
Location: I only stayed at the hotel for one night but I can tell you that the views were stunning if you turn right out of the hotel drive out of the village.
It's a Pub Hotel with very friendly staff. Upon my arrival I was welcomed by a very friendly lady who delt with with my booking very efficiently. I enjoyed my evening meal, the staff were very friendly and looked after my needs with efficiency. I work all over the world and U.K. and I would stay at this hotel again. Tony

Superb

Posted 13-Nov-2014
I booked without realising it was an Old English Inn. Although I have not used Old English before I was nervous as I don't like "chain pubs/inns" for their poor food, service and attitude. But what a lovely surprise! The Royal George is one of the best places I have ever stayed at and when you factor in the cost, it is unbeatable. The staff were to a person, efficient helpful and genuinely friendly, extremely rare these days. Decor is new having had a refurb a few weeks ago, can still smell the new carpet smell though thankfully no paint smell :) My room was as one would like giant bed good sized bathroom with a sink you can actually get your hands into and taps the let the water flow instead of needle jets that spray your trousers! There is ample eating area with tables in the restaurant or bar. The menu was a nice surprise, apart from the usual favourites there was a decent choice of less commonly seen meals. I had a mixed grill which was one of the best I have had. I was hungry and it was plenty for me. Desert was a black forest gateau cheesecake, couldn't taste the cheese for the chocolate, but who cares it was delicious! Three real ales all green king, perfectly served. Breakfast was part served and part buffet and as with dinner, my Full English was delicious, looked after by caring friendly staff. I stay in the are quite often and I will be back, without a doubt a place to stay for all types of traveller. Highly recommended!

Good Hotel

Posted 31-Aug-2014
Pros: Warm comfy clean quiet
Cons: nothing springs to mind
Location: Set in a small town with easy access to the M5, this was just a stopover on the way to South Devon
Arrived after 9pm to a busy Inn/hotel. Had to wait a little while to check in no more than 5 mins. Good food served on the evening and probably one of the nicest breakfasts I have had in a long time. Had nearly booked in to one of the major short stay hotels closer to the M5 but glad I had not.

hotel et restaurant trés " british ",mais qui demande un peu de renovation et un peu plus d'entretien , la chambre familiale (sous les combles) était glaciale une vraie chambre froide de magasin , nous n'étions bien que sous la couette !

A cheap get away

Posted 05-Aug-2014
This hotel has so much potential, but doesn't fulfil it. The staff were a mixed bunch. All friendly but some useless. The hotel was dated. Aiming for the vintage look I think but it's style is rather confused. The room was fine. Huge comfy bed but lumpy pillows. Deep bath and good shower but mouldy bathroom wall. Bar food was absolutely fine, breakfast was less so. Staff struggling to replenish the buffet, taking forever to bring hot drinks etc. For what we paid it was fine and we had a lovely night but that was despite the hotel not because of it.
