Good place to stop about 10 mins from the M5

Posted 22-Jul-2014
Pros: Breakfast. Comfortable bed. Character - not like many modern hotels.
Cons: Shower was a bit weak.
Location: 10 mins drive from the M5 (up a steepish hill). Viewpoint a few minutes drive away. Not much else to do in the village itself.
Good rate (stayed on a Sunday night). Plenty of parking. Meal offers in the evening. Breakfast was very good. Bed was comfortable.

Lovely Cotswolds Hotel

Posted 22-Jul-2014
The hotel is a lovely period hotel right in the Cotswolds, the room was large, clean and comfortable. The food and wait staff let it down a bit.

.Is this for you?

Posted 01-Jul-2014
Pros: Its position
Cons: The food and the decor..
Location: Slad, famous for Laurie Lee. Stroud is a pleasent town as is Cirencester and places like Bourton-on -the-water and Stow-on-the-wolds.
This Hotel is badly in need of renovating. Whilst our room was clean, the wardrobe door was missing! I cannot see this being replaced as the hotel is being renovated in September. If you like cremated toast and dirty cups for breakfast then this is the place to be. We arrived for breakfast on the first morning to find a barren shelf where the croissons and the fruit bowls should have been. To be fair they said they`d had unexpected guests for breakfast from the previous night`s wedding, but that still does not excuse the lack of food. My wife`s scrambled egg looked like it had been done with a blowtorch. Our complaints were registered with the restaurant manager, but we thought it wise to skip the evening meals!.. The staff however were very friendly and the hotel is set in very nice grounds and Birdlip is a good centre for the midweek/weekend break. Be interesting to hear other comments after the refurb..

A Very comfortable and friendly hotel

Posted 30-Jun-2014
Pros: Very useful location . We used the hotel as a stop over for travelling north.
Cons: No
This was a very well organised hotel. Very comfortable bed with excellent bed linen. Very comprehensive menu in restaurant for dinner and there was a good breakfast menu with plenty of choice. A very young staff provided good service. Will stay again!

Enjoyed our stay, good food and service, but the hotel is very tierd and in nerd of a major refurbishment.

Stay at the Royal George

Posted 20-Feb-2014
Pros: Pleasant staff and very clean
Cons: upgrade on the furnishings would not go amiss
Location: location is very pleasant but didn't see much as overnight stop only. Looks like a pleasant area to at least spend a day or two.
Hotel fittings and furnishings a bit tired but couldn't complain about the food or staff service. Great value for money and would definitely stay again.

Royal George Birdlip

Posted 31-Jan-2014
Pros: Nice, clean and modern bathroom, friendly staff
Cons: The general condition of the rooms itself
Location: Those who stay here would probably have a car, and those who do will find it to be in a strategic location close to what you need.
This is a hotel in the country side that is close to cities, but set back within some distance that allows one to emerge in the country side of Cotswolds. It is well-equipped and has its own pub serving food at reasonable prices. The hotel staff is very helpful and there also plenty of take away shops within 10 mins drive. Although the room was a bit dated, the bathroom certainly exceeded the rating standards given for this hotel. I would not mind to stay here again for a weekend break, as it offers very good value.
