Good Hotel

Posted 31-Aug-2014
Pros: Warm comfy clean quiet
Cons: nothing springs to mind
Location: Set in a small town with easy access to the M5, this was just a stopover on the way to South Devon
Arrived after 9pm to a busy Inn/hotel. Had to wait a little while to check in no more than 5 mins. Good food served on the evening and probably one of the nicest breakfasts I have had in a long time. Had nearly booked in to one of the major short stay hotels closer to the M5 but glad I had not.

A cheap get away

Posted 05-Aug-2014
This hotel has so much potential, but doesn't fulfil it. The staff were a mixed bunch. All friendly but some useless. The hotel was dated. Aiming for the vintage look I think but it's style is rather confused. The room was fine. Huge comfy bed but lumpy pillows. Deep bath and good shower but mouldy bathroom wall. Bar food was absolutely fine, breakfast was less so. Staff struggling to replenish the buffet, taking forever to bring hot drinks etc. For what we paid it was fine and we had a lovely night but that was despite the hotel not because of it.

Pleasant stay at a reasonable price.

Posted 30-Jul-2014
Pros: Good character
Cons: A bit of general maintenance required
Location: Handy to Bath and discovered Bourton on the Water from here.
Comfortable accommodation and good food. Wardrobe door was loose and the toilet kept running. A bit of general maintenance would go a long way.

Great location, but beware

Posted 22-Jul-2014 on Hotels.com
Stayed for three nights, but the last was a disappointment. If you want a quiet weekend, check with the hotel in case there's a wedding on. I left my room at one point due to noise levels. Hotel rooms are basic, but comfortable. Decor around the hotel could do with freshening up. Tables and chairs need rubbing down and re-varnishing or wax polished. Food on the menu is reasonable and not too pricey. Service was OK, but could be better. Asked about the live music on a Friday night on reception and was just pointed to the name of the act on a list. Not really what I was asking. Surrounding countryside is stunning and the view from nearby Barrow Wake is fantastic.

Good place to stop about 10 mins from the M5

Posted 22-Jul-2014
Pros: Breakfast. Comfortable bed. Character - not like many modern hotels.
Cons: Shower was a bit weak.
Location: 10 mins drive from the M5 (up a steepish hill). Viewpoint a few minutes drive away. Not much else to do in the village itself.
Good rate (stayed on a Sunday night). Plenty of parking. Meal offers in the evening. Breakfast was very good. Bed was comfortable.

Lovely Cotswolds Hotel

Posted 22-Jul-2014
The hotel is a lovely period hotel right in the Cotswolds, the room was large, clean and comfortable. The food and wait staff let it down a bit.

lovely stay

Last minute booking, but worth every penny. Good choice of evening meal in the bar (could have gone into the restaurant). Very large bed and comfortable, very good choice at breakfast. Would definitely stay again.

.Is this for you?

Posted 01-Jul-2014
Pros: Its position
Cons: The food and the decor..
Location: Slad, famous for Laurie Lee. Stroud is a pleasent town as is Cirencester and places like Bourton-on -the-water and Stow-on-the-wolds.
This Hotel is badly in need of renovating. Whilst our room was clean, the wardrobe door was missing! I cannot see this being replaced as the hotel is being renovated in September. If you like cremated toast and dirty cups for breakfast then this is the place to be. We arrived for breakfast on the first morning to find a barren shelf where the croissons and the fruit bowls should have been. To be fair they said they`d had unexpected guests for breakfast from the previous night`s wedding, but that still does not excuse the lack of food. My wife`s scrambled egg looked like it had been done with a blowtorch. Our complaints were registered with the restaurant manager, but we thought it wise to skip the evening meals!.. The staff however were very friendly and the hotel is set in very nice grounds and Birdlip is a good centre for the midweek/weekend break. Be interesting to hear other comments after the refurb..

A Very comfortable and friendly hotel

Posted 30-Jun-2014
Pros: Very useful location . We used the hotel as a stop over for travelling north.
Cons: No
This was a very well organised hotel. Very comfortable bed with excellent bed linen. Very comprehensive menu in restaurant for dinner and there was a good breakfast menu with plenty of choice. A very young staff provided good service. Will stay again!
