FYI We upgraded to a suite over looking the bay. Suite del mar incredible view small room but worth every penny.
Our overall stay in the Galápagos Islands far exceed our expectations. I highly recommend a vacation here to anyone. There were many thing to do snorkeling, diving, turtles etc. or bike ride to the marina and watch the fisherman bring in there catch or just sit on the dock with the seals and the eguannas very close and extremely friendly. The people of Santa Cruz island were so nice and friendly they made us feel like royality.
With construction style still in the 1950's in Ecuador, sound and temperature insulation is not present yet. I could clearly hear the cook chopping green peppers in the kitchen, which by the way was merely 2ft away from my bed, only separated by a 7" brick wall. Smell of food from the kitchen entered our room through the bathroom window (only screen). The bathtub had a 4x4" hole in it (cleverly covered with a non-slip mat), the neighbor's dogs barked nearly all the time and the entire hotel in general echoed to any and all noises. Normal hallway speech was greatly amplified and audible anywhere in the hotel.
The hotel was only built in 2009 and is in mint condition. Staffed by locals most of whom had very good english who went out of their way to walk their clients down the road to bus stops, taxis, whatever they needed. The only complaint was that the walls were thin and you could hear kids running around at all hours. The on-line map does not show its location acuratly, its actually north of the port's main road (charles darwin ave) by about five blocks but still super easy to find, 10 minute walk from anything perfectly safe and definetly worth it.

Red Mangrove Lodge is an eco-friendly establishment right on the water at the quieter end of town. Set in a mangrove forest, some rooms have decks nearby that seals and iguanas frequent. Stayed in several different rooms; as we had booked only one night, but decided to stay a week; all were clean and comfortable..Taxis (white Toyota Hi-Lux double-cabin) cruise the main street constantly and will take you to the highlands or anywhere else for a reasonable price. When visiting the Galapagos, decide whether you prefer a cruise (most are 4-8 days, some longer) or day-trips with the odd overnight stay. If you prefer a comfortable land-base, I can recommend Red Mangrove Lodge.

This place is amazing. The owner is amazing. EVERYTHING was amazing. No but seriously, cool play to stay. Easily the best place on the island, and we looked at a bunch.
First, the place is a castle. Initially I couldn't really tell from the pictures on tripadvisor & other sites if the place was nice or a hole in the wall, but upon arrival we were mesmerized. We felt like were staying in a romantic fairytale for the price you'd pay for a night in any other hotel room. The room we stayed in was quite literally like a European castle meets a treehouse, complete with a ladder to a second story with another bed, multiple balconies, a bridge to other parts of the hotel, and 2 extra rooms for we don't even know what (entrance room, luggage room, etc).
Ok so that was the nuts and bolts of the place, but the spirit of it was the icing on the cake. The owner was so nice & incredibly accommodating. We let her know that we had a boat that was leaving super early in the morning (6:30am) to Isabella and she woke up early and cooked us an great breakfast and called us a cab that showed up on time. Easily one of the most hospitable places I've stayed, period.
