Great location and comfortable beds. Great shower. Host was curt. Not hospitable at all. Website and Expedia said breakfast option for full Scottish breakfast for a fee from 7:30-9:30 was not an option. The host acted like we were stupid when we asked for it. There is a restaurant below the rooms that you can order off the menu, but not until 9:00. Very misleading. We had 2 rooms reserved. One room only had 1 drinking glass with no way to get another. There was no housekeeping or a way to replenish towels and tea/coffee as mentioned on website.
The view out our window was lovely as we could watch boats go through the locks. Walking distance to everywhere in town.
Location and surrounding amenities are fabulous! The food in the Lock Inn was superb.
No communication around who and where we had to be to check in. Managed to find a random cafe worker who was cleaning and he told us the code to the room key and where we could park. He was helpful to be fair to him. We then spent a lovely evening having a few drinks and enjoying an evening cruise of Loch Ness which was FAB.
The rooms are basically a conversion of the shop loft space so not much head room. No hotel contact info or local emergency needs etc. there is no fire escape info of any kind in the rooms, it’s all very dodgy tbh.
With no one to speak to about things and it was late so we tried to get some sleep except at 1am the fire alarm control panel kept us up all night with a high pitch beeping every 5 seconds!!!! As there was a fault with the alarm. Various other guests kept trying to silence his alarm which set the full fire alarms off on at least two occasions.
My wife went to sleep on the car for a bit due to the torture of the beeping. Again, still no one to contact about this at all.
We left the room as soon as the sun was up at 6am.
Clean and comfortable rooms, newly decorated.sits above a cafe and gift shop. Close to everything. Ideal for a few days stay and would recommend staying there if possible. 8 rooms in total
Found the property to be in a good state and looks to be pretty new to the public . Nice new fixtures and fittings
Was disappointed to order a double bed and got two singles .
Also no tv channels
The room was brand new and very nice with all that you find in a hotel ie, iron and board, hair dryer, heated towel rack etc. The location above the cafe warranted stairs which is fine with us. Signage could be bigger to easily find it . Situated on the canal is amazing! The boats going thru the locks are fun to watch and the walk to Loch Ness is beautiful . There are trails for biking and walking and I wish we had more time there. Highly recommend this quaint little village and Brothys is a great restaurant.
You may wonder why I have rated this hotel so low. I will cut and paste a copy of the email I sent to the corporate owners as per the email address in the room.
Yesterday we checked into the Loch Ness Gate House apartment at Fort Augustus.
At 1pm we walked around the back to see where the apartment was and the owner of the cafe underneath asked us our names and said the apartment was ready and gave us instructions for getting in.
Upon entering apartment no.7 we saw a double bed and not the twin beds we asked for. The cafe owner's daughter tried contacting a contact number but but got nowhere.
She said to go for a walk as it might be a while before whoever rings back.
We came back after 3pm and the cafe manager said there was nothing else available so I asked for a doona and would sleep on the floor.
After connecting to the internet I looked up the booking request and the confirmation has on it under Room Requests 2 single beds.
We have currently been in the UK for 6 weeks and every other booking we have made with accommodation have been as planned and I do not know why this one was not as requested.
When we pay the price for accommodation we expect to get what we requested or be told that it is not available.
The accommodation is lovely but would have been a lot better if we had got what we requested.
I will be sending this letter only to you and Hotels.com.
Regards
The no. the daughter gave me but my phone didn't connect was a contact at Hotels.com who didn't ring her back
Mooie kamers, maar helaas geen ontbijt mogelijk. Wij waren onze sleutel verloren. De eigenaar kwam na een half uur keurig langs om ons te helpen. Prima service
Great place for tourists, many pubs and restaurants around. The place is recently refurbished, all is new. It's a bit noisy, but hey, it's a tourist place. All and all, for a short stay it's definitely worth it.
Nice cozy room. Not really a hotel, but easy to access with given code for the key lock. Perfect location at the south end of Loch Ness with some nice pubs and restaurants in the surrounding area.
