The dark sand at El Socorro Beach is typical of the beaches in northern Tenerife, where the volcanic landscape creates a lunar-like terrain. During the peak summer months, visitors and locals flock to the beach to watch movies projected onto large outdoor screens. El Socorro Beach has been awarded the prestigious Blue Flag award. The beach is located in Los Realejos and is a 40-minute drive from Santa Cruz. Parking is available. The route to the beach is particularly scenic, passing through banana plantations and haciendas and along a coastal road where mountains roll into the sea.
