Wish we had time to stay longer!
We stayed at the cottage-in-the-Barn for a couple nights with two college age kids and dogs. We loved the quiet setting and found it to be a great base for exploring Eastsound and other parts of the island. The cottage was clean and light and charming. It was beautiful in late winter but with the gardens and greenhouse, it must be wonderful in spring and summer!

Lovely spot for a perfect fall weekend
This place is cozy and truly felt like home-away-from-home. The ladder to the loft is steep, the kitchen small, but it's a lovely spot for a small cozy group and perfect for our family trip. We had a fantastic time on the island and using the cottage in the barn as our homebase - enjoying the fresh veggies from the garden, the fireplace, cooking fresh crab in the kitchen, walking the grounds - couldn't have been more lovely. Things are well designed and appointed. Beds comfortable, and communication with the host was easy and quick. We'll be back!

Beautiful, peaceful getaway
This is a beautiful, peaceful gated property that has a pond with kayaks, TONS of dragonflies (at least there were 2 weeks ago, when we went), and everything you need for cooking at the property except they were out of black pepper. :) We had only a weekend stay, but I genuinely enjoyed our time there and would love to spend some longer time there. The owner's house is on the property, hidden behind trees up the hill, so you really feel you have the run of the area around the cottage. One note: not wheelchair accessible and would be difficult for anyone with mobility issues, as there are sort of large rocks in a slight incline that function as stairs, but nothing you can roll luggage over. Also, the ladder to the loft area is very steep - wouldn't be good for small children. We were adults and able to manage just fine, however. It's super cozy, too! There's even games, some movies, and books to read for a rainy day. We enjoyed cooking our dinners at home each night instead of jockeying for a dinner reservation, which pretty much none of the local places have available anyway, in my last several visits to the island. Basically, if you don't book ahead of time, only bars are available, which was not our scene. There's a nice grocery store in Eastsound that has high quality food, including bulk food section, and is much cheaper than eating out! We found it's easier to eat out on the island without a reservation during breakfast/lunch. Hope this helps!

Very nice nook for a visit, not built as a real residence. Loft with two beds we didn't use, master was roomy. Excellent place to base for a visit to Orcas island, has everything you need for a relaxing night or day.

Perfect Long Weekend
I wanted to see Orcas Island during the winter when it is colder and darker. This little cabin was snug and perfectly situated for us since we had been before and were familiar with the general layout of the island. Would stay again in a heartbeat.

Great Little Getaway!
Whenever we go on vacation I usually CANNOT wait to get up and explore the town on the first day. Not this time.....I was perfectly happy sitting by the beautiful garden drinking my coffee and watching the butterflies and hummingbirds while my kids and dog explored the property. This place is truly special.

Absolutely delightful
Great base to explore the west side of Orcas. We spent plenty of time just relaxing in the yard, visiting the chickens, and reading on the couch. Some comfort with heights is useful for those staying in the loft - the ladder is super sturdy and it’s very cozy once you’re up there. Great interactions with the host. Very worth the visit.

All you can hear is the birds
What a lovely getaway! This cottage is even better than the pictures. The location is very quiet and secluded. The grounds are charming with lots of places to sit and enjoy the calls of the birds. We found the cottage to be very clean and spacious. The kitchen was well equipped for cooking with a large selection of pots, pans and utensils. The beds were comfortable and the wifi was reliable. We love that it was dog-friendly and we definitely hope to return in the future.

Loved our stay at Dragonfly Inn
We had a great weekend stay at Dragonfly Inn. Everything was very clean and cozy. The kitchen was fully stocked with plenty of pots/pans to cook dinner both nights. The bed was very comfortable and this was the most dog-friendly property. Our pup loved walking to the pond in the mornings. The location is very central and a quick drive to hiking or Eastsound shops - which had such great food, coffee/tea, sandwiches and the local ice cream shop was amazing! We will definitely be coming back and staying longer next time to enjoy more of Orcas Island.

A wonderful getaway!
In this challenging time, we were so excited to get out of the house and spend some quiet time on Orcas Island. The Cottage-in-the-Barn did not disappoint! The cottage was clean and had all of the amenities we needed to keep our family of four (kids are aged 5 and 7) happy for four nights. The kids loved climbing up and down the ladder to their loft, the chickens (and plentiful eggs), the garden, Sammy the dog's visit, the board games, and riding their bikes on a dirt path right next to the cottage when we weren't out exploring the island. One key detail is that this cottage has blackout shades on almost every window! This is something we rarely see in rental properties. The shades (and comfy beds) made for nice long nights of sleep for all of us. Thank you!!

Great hideaway on Orcas Island

Cozy Getaway
This was a cozy place to spend our 3 days on Orcas. It is very quiet and off the beaten path, and we loved spotting frogs in the pond, collecting fresh eggs from the henhouse, and stargazing at night. It was a great base for exploring all that Orcas has to offer, including hiking/biking in the Turtleback Preserve, hiking in Moran State Park up to Mt. Constitution, visiting Orcas Island Pottery, daily stops at Clever Cow Creamery in Eastsound, brews and Oysters at Buck Bay, etc. The lodging turned out to be pretty tight for our group of 5 adults and 2 cats (made use of the pull-out bed in the LR), but it all worked out! The galley kitchen is efficient, and we appreciated being able to compost and recycle.

A Pleasant time in the woods
The description of the site should have mentioned that a person with limited mobility could not stay here. The walk up to the cabin was steep and uneven (basically a dirt and rock incline). This was the only concern. The cabin was very clean and well stocked. We enjoyed the remoteness and quietness. It was a pleasant couple of days.

As mentioned in the listing, the barn cottage is appropriate for those who can navigate stairs; there are two entries, a dirt path to the deck, and a staircase to a second door.

Beautiful, serene setting. The pond, the frogs, the chickens and the beautiful grounds made this a truly wonderful glamping experience. Property really was more than expected. Everything you may have forgotten to bring along is there and available, the owner thought of everything. Truly a wonderful place to stay!

Awesome cottage, the kids loved it here!
This was our second time on Orcas Island, and we could not have been happier with our stay at the cottage. The house was clean and cozy, plenty of space for our family of five. Our two older kids loved the loft space up the ladder. The property was lovely, the chickens were fun, and we loved going out in the kayaks. Would definitely stay here again!

Wonderful Stay
This is our second time at Dragon Fly Farm. It was relaxing and tranquil. We went canoeing on the pond in the afternoon. Had several great meals with local farm produce and fish. All the pans, kitchenware, glasses and utensils were provided and of good quality - only the wine opener needs to be upgraded. Linens, pillows and bath towels were beautiful and plentiful. We will be back.

Perfect family getaway!
Lovely spring break vacation! The cottage was perfect and had everything we needed for a wonderful stay- super comfortable beds with cozy comforters (kiddos ages 12 & 13 slept in loft), fully outfitted kitchen (we cooked most of our meals for the week), tv & DVD player to enjoy a few movies. The kids had fun in the kayaks, and we had fun relaxing, reading, taking photos, sketching, etc. thanks for sharing your lovely cottage with us!

If you’ve ever wanted to be surrounded by beautiful Orcas wilderness while staying in a PERFECTLY clean, appointed & beautiful cabin this is the place for you! Incredibly comfortable bed! Adirondacks with cushions so you can drink in the silence, birdsong & your coffee! Our dogs want to live here, they are SO happy running in the meddow & smelling all the animals. We got this place because I mistakenly booked our departure from another of their properties a day early! By good luck & the compassion of the host we got into this place, a new favorite! Really grateful. 🧡🧡🧡

Comfortable, charming cottage
The cottage was conveniently located near both Eastsound and the ferry terminal. The sofa, chairs and beds were all comfortable, and the kitchen was well-equipped. My daughter appreciated the first aid kit in the bathroom when she stepped on a thorn, and I liked that there were both fluffy and flat pillows, so you could choose what you prefer, and that the sofa bed was already made up with bedding. Thanks! The owners have thought of every little convenience. We enjoyed being able to bring our dog along and he had fun exploring the property. The veggie garden and pond are beautiful, and there were lots of things to see around the cottage. I made hot dogs on the gas grill, which was easy to use.

Wonderful get away
There were 4 of us that stayed 3 nights here. What a wonderful experience! We loved the peaceful setting, sitting by the pond listening to frogs, bird watching, and even taking a cruise around on the kayak. The cottage was well appointed with kitchen essentials. We had a problem with the shower and it was addressed immediately. Thank you for that. If you choose to stay here, you will be so happy with your decision.

Lovely cabin!
This cabin is very nice. We arrived on a cold day and were happy to find a propane stove. It quickly warmed up the cabin and was easy to use with the remote thermostat. The cabin had everything we needed and the beds were very comfortable. High winds cut out the power on the island for a few hours and when I contacted the owner about it, she was very quick to respond. Only thing we thought was missing was a pantry or a few empty kitchen cabinets for the food we brought, there is a pantry but it was filled with towels and other items. Would love to come back during the spring or summer so we can enjoy the vegetable garden and some fresh eggs from the chickens.

I'm so glad you enjoyed the cottage, despite our bit of blustery weather. There should be plenty of shelf space, so I'm sorry it got filled with guest supplies. Magical Cottage in the woods!
We checked into the Dragon Fly Cottage after passing the rustic automatic entry gate. It was dusk, a week before Christmas. We arrived with rabbits and wild birds around the front porch, it was an animal sanctuary. The cottage was all lit up with the fireplace going and Christmas music playing, it was very quaint. All the right touches, including BBQ. We enjoyed our own homecooked breakfast as well as dinner each night. Truly a cozy little island retreat!

Cozy and quiet, but close to town.
We had a wonderful time. We were lucky enough to have a sunny afternoon and hiked up to Turtle Head. Do that if you can, it’s a beautiful view. The trailhead was right up the road from the property. It’s only a few minutes into town if you want to grab groceries or dinner. We liked feeding the chickens and chilling by the stove with a hot cup of coffee. Super cute, quiet and cozy. One tip, book your ferry the day you book your trip. We didn’t and then couldn’t get reservations the week of.

Perfection!
Beautiful and so peaceful - I could have stayed a month! This was a great home base to explore Orcas. Perfect for a family of 4. Our kids loved the farm setting and the loft bedroom. Super comfortable beds. Well stocked kitchen. Updated bathroom. Loved the garden and fresh picked tomatoes! We will be back and will stay longer next time!

OMG!!! Quiet, special, beautiful, love!!
My husband and I have been visiting the San Juan Islands since we were kids. We, also, had brought our children to Moran State Park and many other great places. We are voting this lovely, well-appointed cabin one of our best places we've stayed. Beautiful gardens, sassy, sweet chickens (you can visit them anytime!), privacy (but, felt like if we needed anything, the owners would be there), and the cabin! Comfortable bed, great sheets and comforters, we slept like babies. And the whole property was so serene. What a grand birthday it was. Thank you Susan and Wally😊

Peaceful Getaway

The house is very comfortable. The loft is a climb and best for kids or young adults. The beds are very comfortable. The use of the garden is great for building salads. The kitchen is well appointed with appliances. It is expensive, and the reason for 4 stars, as the value is moderate.

Thank you for the nice comments about the cottage. We were pleased to host you! Our rates are commiserate with rates of similar properties in the islands during high summer, but we do offer steep discounts during the shoulder and off-season if that works better for some guests.
