Just finished a two week stay - our first in East Haven. It was marvelous on multiple levels. First off, Karen is a fantastic hostess. She was delightful to work with and extremely friendly and thorough. Check-in was simple. One feature is a keyless entry system - it's a combination lock. You don't have to worry about keys. Great idea that other places should consider. The house was very clean, with an open floor-plan. It was just the right size, too. It was well equipped with everything (we've stayed in places where they didn't even leave a pen and paper!). We didn't need anything.
East Haven is a very quiet, residential neighborhood. There are not alot of nearby activities (that was a plus for us). There is a Stop-and-Shop in town and a couple of strip malls, but both New Haven and Branford were within 10 minutes drive. Each had lots to do. We even took a day trip to Mystic, which was fun.
There are two beaches. The one across the street is private - literally. We were the only people on that beach. We actually preferred walking down to the public beach - about 200 yards down the road. "Public" is a misnomer. Other than the holiday weekend, there were less than 50 people there every day we visited. We've been elsewhere where there was a "private" beach that was way more crowded than their public beach. Being in the Sound, the water was extremely calm - great for young children, but not great if you like to boogie board. We preferred the calm waters.
We also enjoyed the nearby Sandpiper restaurant. Great food, great service and reasonable prices.
Thanks again for a great visit! We look forward to returning!
