“Good location”
Very well located for city centre. Cigarette burns in bedroom furniture but generally comfortable and clean. Would recommend
“Does not deserve to be called a four star hotel!”
This hotel does not deserve to be called a four star hotel. Our hotel had a seriously lumpy bed, ugly view, no room service, no refrigerator, no bath robes and no wash cloths. The staff needs to smile more.
“Mixed experience”
Like other O'Callaghan-Alexander hotels this has a great front of house presentation, but in this case the rooms don't quite match. The decor of the room, and especially the bathroom, was tired and rather grubby. Rather poor lighting, too. This was a considerable contrast to the front-of-house areas. I had three main annoyances: internet access was ridiculously over-priced and the PC in the lobby wasn't even free (a bit mean given the cost of the hotel); there was no pool in the gym (not a huge issue but it would have been nice); the hotel isn't on Merrion Square at all, it's on one of the parallel streets behind the square. The location is still perfectly okay. So, the staff were fine (though an early knock on the door on Sunday to see if I was checking out wasn't welcome), and the hotel was prefectly acceptable. But that's all.
“Pleasant stay for a first timer”
My husband and I decided to celebrate my birthday in Dublin. Neither of us have ever been to Europe. We usually travel to the tropics or west coast for fun, so we decided to try something new. The O'Callaghan was nice enough. I suppose in Europe it's considered a 4 star, though here in the US I would think it's closer to 3. The food was so-so, bordering on not great. The front desk staff was unpredictable. They were all nice enough, but none were overly friendly or helpful. More like they did their job and nothing above or beyond. However, the bartender at night, Anthony, was an absolute joy! He was probably one of the best parts of the trip. He was one of the true Irishmen who worked at the hotel and came with the charming brogue and classic Irish attitude. I actually would stay at this hotel again simply to have another chance to interact with him. Hands down, he's the reason why I gave this review as high a rating as I did.
“Excellent value”
This has to be one of the best value for money hotels in Dublin. Conveniently located, good service, tidy - would definitely recommend it!
“Hotel was fine”
This hotel chain was recommended to my from someone in Dublin. We picked the Alexander as it seemed the nicest. At first, when we arrived after requesting a low floor, we were allocated the 5th floor. Offered the 3rd floor and then eventually they managed to find a room on the 2nd floor, however, the staff were pleasant and helpful. The food at the hotel was good in the evening and we ate in one of the other hotels (Davenport) which was also nice. There isn't much to do around Merrion Sq, especially for dinner in the evenings.
“satisfaction in dublin”
Travelling on business. Very nice hotel - strongly recommended.
“Dublin is a pleasant city.”
The visit, short as it was, worked well and we were able to sightsee easily - with most places of interest within walking distance.
“Best Stay in Ireland”
Had a wonderful stay and would love to go back
“Surprisedly dissapointed”
Although the agent at the desk was not as cheerful and friendly as we had experienced elsewhere in Ireland, we chalked it up to Dublin being a city. The bed was broken in the first room we occupied and the desk agent came up to check it. One side was fine, and when we got in the other side, you almost hit the floor. He gave us another room. On checkout another desk agent stamped our parking ticket but neglected to tell us that the twenty euros had to be paid at the machine, before we could get the car out. My husband had to walk back to the hotel to get some smaller bills so that we could get out. The hotel itself is very nice, and the location is very good, but the people at desk should spend some time in the Irish countryside to get an idea of why Ireland is regarded as one of the friendliest countries to visit. We will not stay at this hotel in the future.
