Good room, great facilities, excellent food

Pros: The food, the View and the staff were all excellent
Cons: Given the poor phone signals in the area, I had no 3G on Vodafone or Orange, free Wi-Fi would make a real difference here
Location: It's on a golf course - views are amazing.
I only stopped one night for work, ate in the restaurant, drank (responsibly) in the bar and enjoyed the breakfast. The room was fine, lovely view over the gold course, TV was good, bed comfy and they included bottled water, biscuits and shower gel etc. Shower was fine, bathroom was clean. Although they have a full restaurant, I chose to eat from the smaller bar menu. The food was of a very high standard, I can easily understand how they won all the awards they have pinned up behind the reception desk. Service was very good. Breakfast was much the same, excellent quality food, well cooked. I didn't make use of the spa facilities, which were included in the room rate. Overall the standard was excellent and I would be more than happy to recommend.

The service was lukewarm. The food was average and the bed was uncomfortable. I could actually feel the springs. This hotel would suit those who are planning a golf trip with a big group of lads.

excellent break

Came for a break with my 7 yr old daughter, and we had an excellent time. The staff were lovely and very made us both feel very welcome, they all seemed very good with children. The room was comfy and clean, breakfasts were tasty and we spent a lot of time enjoying the swimming pool. Found lots to do in Exeter and will be back again with the rest of the family.

Hotel used to be owned by Nigel Mansell & had a very good reputation. I have always wanted to stay there. Rooms looking a little dated, but having said that everything worked, room was warm & had a balcony. Food was ok but only had breakfast, have tasted better quality. I paid £87 for one night for 2 people, which included use of leisure facilities. if I had paid £120-£130 which is what hotel usually charge I would have been disappointed. Would I stay here again? Yes I would, but not at full price.

The staff make this hotel. Nothing was too much bother for them especially the waiting staff in the Atrium Restaurant and at breakfast. The shower was really powerful - marvellous. It was a great shame that the room was not air conditioned, neither was there a fan on offer. It was a muggy summer's night and even with the window open, we both slept very badly and sweated buckets due to the roasting room temp. Some of the room and bathroom décor has a tiered look and slightly worse for wear in places.

It was a pleasant stay but I would like to have known in advance that the room overlooked the restaurant without an opening window. The bed in 230 needs replacing as the springs are now poking through. The housekeeper very kindly put on a mattress topper for the second night. Although breakfast was until 09.30 hrs, our arrival at 09.15 meant that we missed most of the buffet breakfast due to the wait for a table to be laid. There needs to be more organisation knowing the last half hour on a weekend is their busy time. We ate at a pub a few miles away as the hotel felt quite soul less with no inviting bar or atmosphere. The gym, pool and spa facilities were excellent with friendly welcoming staff. We did not use the golf club during our stay. I had big expectations that weren't quite met so perhaps had we been there for golf, we would have felt differently. The hotel is in a pleasant setting with super views from the golf club on clear days but the position of the golf club and function room, inhibits the view from the hotel or leisure club.
