A fine turn of the century (c1900) railway hotel (right opposite Exeter Central and not far from Exeter St David’s, which is the main station). It is a short distance from the historic city centre and the cathedral. Elegant fixtures in the entrance and grand staircase; rooms nicely modernized. A good buffet breakfast selection. Altogether a very satisfying place to stay.

Hotel reception area was lovely, loads of history. The room wasn't great and there was a pee stained bed sheet at the top of the wardrobe.

Very tired hotel and beds are awful. Needs overhaul desperately. Travelodge is smarter than this. Breakfast was poor and it’s such a shame as it’s a lovely building

A litle more than i expected.
From outside you are greeted by a busy car park (spaces seemed to be a premium) and very tired looking building, but what greets you inside is a very spacious lobby and very welcoming staff. The room was immaculate and stocked with a few essentials ie tea,coffee and soft drinks. Very comfortable stay. Breakfast was very nice, with a good selection of pastries and full english. Two negatives though...the lift being out of action was a pain as we were on the third floor.(we were pre warned lift out of action), And the bar service in the evening was very slow with a wait of 20 mins for a member if staff to show. The member of staff was very apologetic for the deley. Overall a lovely stay and would reccomend to anybody

The staff were great but my room had lots of damage. The bathroom worktop was cracked and it took over 4 minutes for the hot water to run through into the taps. Ironically there is a sign asking people to think about the environment by reusing towels when they are running hundreds of litres of water down the drain waiting for it to get hot! Also breakfast is obviously an optional extra which is not included when booking. This must due to the fact that most humans don't need food, just sleep. Can't help feeling ripped off by large hotel chains when they add extra costs at every opportunity but don't really care about the state of their rooms.

It was really good and front of house were excellent informing of us of Cristmas party events . The hotel itself is looking tired in need of money spending on it also in this cold spell they need to put the heating in in the bar. Overall a great experience special shoutout to reception staff

Perfect location opposite train station and round the corner to M&S. Maria on reception was very polite, supportive and professional. Please not this is an old building, while we were there some maintenance on the heating system and decoration was taking place.

We have stayed at this hotel many times before and been very happy. Unfortunately on this occasion our room was very compact and next to the kitchen extractor which was left on all night (it was very noisey and difficult to sleep). I’m not one to complain but we mentioned this on check-out and was greeted with little or no concern/apology as if we were lying - am actually quite annoyed that was should have been a relaxing night away was spoilt!

Dog-friendly!
We had a lovely welcome and speedy check-in at the Exeter Rougemont Mercure Hotel. Our dog-friendly ‘privilege’ room was clean and spacious, we had a fridge, complimentary soft drinks, tea and coffee making facilities, dressing gowns, slippers, plenty of mirrors and (very importantly) power points by the mirror! We had a really lovely meal in the bar on both evenings, the bar is also dog friendly and breakfast in the morning was an excellent buffet where we left our fur baby sleeping soundly in the room. All in all a lovely stay in a centrally located hotel.

Good stay!
Only disappointment was the room was VERY HOT. The hallway and other parts of the hotel were very cool and comfortable. Only a quilt on the bed, so no option of a sheet given the heat. Fan was ok, but they are noisy when trying to sleep. Staff were excellent. Breakfast was excellent. Would definitely come back if room temps could be guaranteed as more comfortable.

We were denied check in inspite of an active booking, staff at the reception were extremely rude and unprofessional. We were charged the full amount even before we arrived and then denied check in stating that 'Your booking has been cancelled' it ruined our holiday and we were hassled, all our plans spoilt. NOT RECOMMENDED to be honest and utterly DISSAPPOINTED.

Worth a Stay
I think one of the best features of this Hotel is the location right opposite Exeter Central Railway Station and a short walk to the excellent High Street and City centre shopping and hospitality venues . I have stayed in quite a few Hotels over time and would say this is one of the best .
