This place has beautiful surroundings and made me feel relaxed the moment walk-in. It is close to the Daintree Discovery Center and was a good base for exploring the Daintree and Cape Tribulation area. The host Matt knows everything in the area and made helpful itinerary suggestions. Would highly recommend this place.

Matt’s place is unreal - beautifully nesteld within the daintree rainforest ! We stayed in the cottage just 50 m from the main house and absolutely loved it. Saw a cassowary walk through the property and enjoy the fruit trees. The breakfast is delicious with all the different fruits and we enjoyed spending time with Matt and his friends over a glass of wine. Thank you so much for having us :) we will be back !

This is a good place to stay to visit the Daintree Forest and Cape Tribulation. This part of Australia is off the grid and lightly populated. Being in the tropics,, it has a rainy season so be aware it can rain a lot during the Australian summer with few people visiting during that time. We had 3 days of sun so we were able to take advantage of the rainforest discover center and board walks without rain as well as empty beaches. Also be aware that this is crocoodile country so you can not go into the water at all except for two swimming holes in rivers.

Thank you for the lovely (and informative) review. Yes, it is crocodile country up here these days so no swimming at beaches but the swimming holes are lovely.Cheers.

Thank you 'Anonymous' for your review and really poor rating. Since you didn't give any explanation for this rating it's pretty hard to understand why especially as i know we all (myself and both my assistants) have been giving our all to make everyones experience here as great as possible... and since you actually found a temporary family here during your stay. I personally work many hours/day, 7 days/week and get much less renumeration than I would doing any kind of ordinary city job... because it's been my passion to share this magical place with guests and hope they can take away a love of the rainforest and a desire to protect it. A rating of 4/10 really just shows you haven't understood my sacrifices and effort whatsoever. But that's fine. I wish you a happy life.

If you want an authentic rain forest experience where you truly feel you are living in the jungle, this is your place. If you are okay with slighly rustic, off the grid, etc., you couldn't ask for a better experience. The owner, Matt, is incredibly knowledgeable about the Daintree area and the best ways to visit it.

This is a unique property, in the rainforest. The area doesn’t have mains power so don’t expect aircon. There are plenty of fans though, and the shared areas of the house are open to the lovely tropical breezes. Bedrooms can either be open to the breeze or made as private as you choose. Matt prepares a very generous tropical fruit breakfast, and is friendly but professional and so knowledgable about the area. Good shower, great to be able to access kitchen facilities and lovely to have space to chat and hang out with other guests if you want to. No reflection on Matt or the property, but you need to expect that it can get very hot and humid here. After all, it’s the Wet Tropics!

Thank you. It was great to host you here. This time of year is certainly humid even for locals... but the pay-off it is very quiet (re visitor numbers) but with heaps of birdlife and wildlife active when it rains. A beautiful time to visit but just be prepared to take it easy and rest a little more often :-) Thanks for your comments. Best wishes...

From Matthew who was an encyclopedia of knowledge to the beautiful setting where we were fortunate enough to see a cassowary, we could not have chosen a better place to experience the Daintree Rainforest. I can’t say enough about the hospitality and the efforts to ensure that the Epiphyte is in harmony with nature. Absolutely fantastic stay!

Our stay here was just lovely, Trish was very welcoming and explained everything there was to know avout the Daintree and thing to here and places to visit. It's a great place to go if you want to get off the grid and just enjoy nature and the lovely rainforest. We were upgraded on arrival to a room with a bed outside so we could really experience the wildlife. Breakfast was amazing too! A lovely selection of unusual fruit grown in their garden and homemade jams. Would definitely stay here again :)

Wonderful off the grid eco friendly B&B
My husband and I had a wonderful stay for 2 nights. We were upgraded to the superior room since we were the only guests and our hosts we amazingly friendly and informative on the area. The room/bathroom/porch were comfortable and we had everything we needed and was private. The fruits and jams for breakfast were great and they even packed a fruit plate for our early morning bird watching boat trip. It was convenient to the area we wanted to cover our few days in Daintree. The view and grounds were beautiful and quiet. Note they are very Eco-conscience (which is great)- conservative/responsible water and resource use which is also requested of guests.

Down Home Stay
The hospitality was nice- always felt like a family meal sitting around the table with great people and beautiful views of the mountain in the middle of the rainforest. I was a little surprised there was no air conditioning on the property but appreciated the off grid , sustainability. If you’re wanting a more inner journey solitude experience you may want to book the private cottages as the rooms in the main house are close together with very thin walls and one can hear the activities in the kitchen/living areas. I had a good experience all in all.

The best place in Cape Tribulation
This is probably one of the best places you can stay at Cape Tribulation area. The hosts are wonderful, bright, fun, and extremely helpful. The lodge is truly beautiful, tasteful, and comfortable. It's built in a fabulous piece of land with orchards and plants and trees, basically in the middle of the forest. You can see the stars at night and wake up in the morning with the sounds of the forest entering your room. Everything is eco-friendly which is a must if you want to help maintain alive the Daintree Forest. The breakfast is delicious, all sorts of fruits and jams. If you are looking for AC, greasy bacon, fat and wifi don't go here, but if you are somebody looking to experience nature this is the place for you. I will definitely go back to Epiphyte.

Rustic retreat in the heart of the rainforest
We loved every minute of our stay in the orchid cabin in the daintree. Matt, the owner, made our trip so special with his unrivalled local knowledge; he told us about secret picture perfect beaches and swimming holes that we would never have known about otherwise. The breakfast fruit platter was a wonderful treat. Staying in the cabin was amazing as you are right in the rainforest and can hear all the wonderful birds and noises of the rainforest. We were there 2 nights but really wished we could have stayed longer! Definitely book a stay at Epiphyte if you would like an experience to remember while in the Daintree, you will have an incredible time! We can't wait to go back to Epiphyte one day.

Loved this charming and magical place and only wish I had booked for longer than 2 nights here. The wide open vernadah's with private soft seating nooks and hammocks overlook the lush tropical property and an amazing view. The room was really sweet and comfy. There was a spontaneous BBQ and live music on on one night arranged by the owner which made it so fun and memorable for me. Loved it here!

All you could wish for
Gorgeous, unique, owner built house, breathtaking view, great breakfasts. Matt's local knowledge means you get the most from your time there, and his obvious love of the Daintree is inspiring. Unless you are welded to your air con and hairdryer (power is a big issue everywhere in the region), this place lacks nothing. The whole living area is open to all guests and sits right in the garden. There's also a couple of stand alone cottages if you want complete privacy.

Lots of character, in lovely position.
Arrived to find Epiphyte to be full of character, with its lovely verandas looking out across rainforest views afforded by its unusually elevated position. Matt, the host, could not have been more welcoming and nothing was too much trouble during our stay. The tropical fruit breakfast platters were delightful. He is clearly passionate about the rainforest and has all the local knowledge needed for any visitor to make the most of their stay. I would highly recommend this B&B.

Very comfortable B & B
B & B Epiphyte in Cow Bay is incredible comfortable. The rooms are spacious and have their own varanda. Beautiful plants and birds all over. Close to many attracions if you like nature, both for terrestrial and aquatic activities. Matt is very nice and shares all his knowledge of the region - he gave us lots of very useful tips. And we got some space in the refrigerator to have our own food (buy it at Mossman - much cheaper than after the ferry) and the kitchen was open all times for a light snack. We planned to stay 3 nights and decided to extend our trip.

The best eco holiday destination
What a beautiful place to stay. Matt, the owner is passionate about his B&B, the Daintree and his world environment. This is a superb eco holiday destination, solar powered, set in the beautiful Cow Bay at the lower end of the Daintree rainforest and the beautiful World Heritage National Park. The rooms are comfortable with private outdoor spaces and en-suites. The breakfast is magnificent with fresh fruit, local homemade jams and a range of tea and coffee. The services and willingness to offer suggestions of what to see and do are first class. Friday night at the Crossroads for open-mic and fish and chips is a must do, with your host. Close to a range of venues both free and paid including the Discovery Centre, walks in the forest and on the beach or you could just sit and enjoy the view of Thornton Peak. Easy drive to Cape Tribulation with dozens of things to see and do on the way. Great jump off point to see the reef, truly this is where the forest meets the sea. Thank you Matt for a wonderful few days.
