We really enjoyed our stay in Grosseto at the Hotel Bastiani. It's in the heart of the old center, a block from the Duomo. We walked from the train/bus station - an easy 10-15 minute walk, and went on a day-trip to the beach at Follonica, using the train, also. The hotel rooms are large, and the bathroom was nicely furnished with a large bathtub/shower combo. The breakfast area was also very nice with a large assortment of items, and excellent cappacino. Each person at the front desk was very personable.
We planned to use the bikes available but ended up walking everywhere, instead. While we were there, the old center had a wonderful night event with lots of music options, arts, and museums were open.
We know that Grosseto is not the typical location American tourists go in Italy, but we really enjoyed our time there and recommend it.
This delightful complex is a group of individual small apartments surrounded by beautiful landscaping. It is not actually a hotel, but what the Europeans call "self-catering." We had a two room apartment with a fully equipped kitchenette. The staff was happy to provide a barbecue, a pannini maker and laundry drying rack when requested. There were laundry facilities on site, two beautiful pools and an elegant restaurant. Continental breakfast delivered to the front door was available with pre-order. The location was near beaches, small historic villages and a very modern shopping center. Occupants of other apartments were of several different nationalities and were all friendly.

Picture Butlins in the 70s, the place was like a childrens camp some form of PGL maybe. It was really weird the owners have an obsession with gnomes, bunting and hand painted animal signs. The land in which it is situated is flat and not much to do around (locally). The pools were very nice but have changed somewhat since the pictures were taken for expedia. I would not stay here it is geared up for the Italian family market not Couples.
The rooms were odd our room had a little cooker and sink in the corner, the rooms were not that big so this cramped them even more so. Air con was ok and working well. You have to unload your car and then park it in another location even tho there is ample space outside the rooms/ villas.
I would rather stay on the island of elba as this butlins camp was the most expensive place of our hunnymoon with no brekkie or cleaning services.
Hope this has helped, shame to be negative but its true.
