Tastefully appointed room and decor (not your sterile corporate looking typical hotel room). Beautiful indoor pool and hot tub with many tropical plants, felt a bit like a greenhouse - very relaxing. Very convenient location to Assateague National Refuge and Seashore. Be aware there is no elevator, so if you have any issue with stairs, request a first floor room.

We really enjoyed the patio outside each room for morning coffee and breakfast, which is included and brought to your room each day. The property is well kept with beautiful flowers. There are ponies on the property that my daughter loved to visit and we enjoyed an afternoon in the back picnic area throwing a football and hanging out. We were also able to rent bikes right next door to explore the area. We would love to come back and stay here again!

The décor is wonderfully quaint and homey--lots of wood, soft brown, taupe, and grey with an attention to detail, like the compass in the floor tile. Lots of attention to cleanliness and condition as well. And the room doors do not have self closing devices--no slamming door sounds! Thanks. Classic and charming.

This was a nice, quaint little place. They had on site ponies for my kids to see up close and personal and feed, and a well-heated indoor pool and hot tub. They bring breakfast to your room every day, included in price. The staff was very sweet and accommodating. I would definitely stay here again.

As we visited off season, most attractions were closed. We thoroughly enjoyed the Chincoteague ponies in the corral and did bring quarters to feed them corn! The room decor was very up to date and everything was spotless and smelled fresh. The complimentary soaps and shampoos were a very high quality and bought some in the gift shop. The staff were all very friendly and knowledgeable about this unique area and always happy to help. I would definitely recommend this Inn and return to it myself.

This is the second time we've stayed at The Refuge Inn and it was even better than our first visit! Their staff is friendly and accommodating, you'll always receive service with a smile. Beautiful, comfortable rooms with handpicked antique furniture pieces and very clean. The grounds feature beautiful plantings and it's so nice to sit in the Adirondack chairs on the landing outside your patio door, sip a morning coffee and watch their horses grazing on their corral. The staff will deliver a free breakfast to your room (you choose from several options at check-in), a nice touch. We usually travel in this area off-season and LOVE the heated indoor pool as well as the hot tub and sauna. They have books and games available to enjoy in your room and the gift shop has a great selection of local artists' handiwork.

Love this older style hotel. It’s clean and convenient. It’s next to a bike shop that you can rent bike to ride on the assateague island. Also, it’s close to all the eateries and stores. We will definitely stay here again.

It was amazing!
This trip was a weekend getaway for two. We’d never been to Chincoteague and did not know what to expect. Chincoteague and especially the Refuge Inn are now our new favorite spots. Chincoteague in autumn is quiet and charming but thankfully not empty. The hotel won us over immediately with clean rooms in perfect condition, a friendly staff, and incredible comfort. The king size bed was one of the most comfortable we’ve ever slept in, and a bonus at the hotel pool: a hot tub, which was smartly decorated with real plants, giving a feeling of total relaxation and escape. We will definitely return to this wonderful hotel.

There was some sort of bug on the bed, looked like a grub larva type. Gross, smoke detector beeped the whole stay, The breakfast choices are the same daily. And wasn’t a fan about having to come to the front desk for permission for the gym and sauna. The nature was beautiful, horses are beautiful. People should be open. Minded. It was my birthday weekend and my diverse family was treated terribly. The restaurants. Didn’t want to serve us.

Thank you for your review. While our cleaning standards are top-notch, it certainly is possible that with the surrounding environment, some sort of insect made its way into your room. Unfortunately this wasn't brought to our attention until you checked out. After thorough inspection, we were unable to find any traces of insects in the room. We would have been happy to take care of the smoke detector issue, but again, we were not informed until you checked out. We're sorry that you were disappointed in the process for utilizing our fitness room and sauna. We are a family establishment and we take our guests safety very seriously. Keeping the fitness room and our sauna locked ensures that little ones can't venture in and get hurt. Chincoteague has always been such a great place for all and we're sorry that you didn't have that experience. We hope that you had a wonderful birthday in spite of any negative that you found.

Good place to stay for visiting VA Assateague
We enjoyed our stay at the Refugee Inn, and would recommend it to our friends and family. The only issue we had was not able to get the hotel release the credit card authorization for possible incidental charges. We incurred no incidental charges, but three weeks after our stay, this credit card authorization is still showing up as a "pending charge" in my credit card account.

Key to our Chincoteague experience
This is the place to stay in Chincoteague. The staff were very pleasant and helpful. The location was perfect to access the National Park or to explore the town. The walk to the marsh observation deck was nice. Of course, the 5 horses were the high point. Breakfast was alright, but we’d prefer to eat in a dedicated breakfast room We would definitely stay here again.

The refuge Inn did what it said on the tin - provided refuge from stress. The hotel facilities were excellent with the pool a particular bonus. Breakfast was good and delivered to the room every morning and the staff were very good.
