Early Birthday Treat

Posted 15-Jul-2015
Wonderful spotless hotel Staff Friendly and Helpful nothing to much trouble . My only small grumble was no butter on tray for toast with breakfast via room service , but with all the other delights in the tray it wasn't a major concern

Pros: It has style and elegance, reception staff were excellent.
Cons: Kitchen closing at 9pm on a Sunday is not helpful. Car park signage needed.
Location: Difficult location to find given the myriad of one-way systems. If you use a satnav, post code will take you to the rear of a warehouse - not great!!
Booked for a one night stay only but would definitely stay again. There was one downside. On returning to the Hotel bar, very hungry, at around 9.30 pm, having been at an Ordination Service since 5.30 pm. We were informed that the kitchen had closed at 9 pm. On mentioning that one of the party was diabetic and he really needed something to eat soon, we asked if there was anything that could be rustled up such as a scone, bread and butter, biscuits - anything at all. The waiter just shrugged and re-iterated that the kitchen had closed at 9 pm. Surely there must be something in the housekeeping stores such as biscuits, we replied. No effort was made on his part to satisfy our request. We then asked if he could find some crisps or buts which he did. I think that in the circumstances, and given the potential medical problems of a diabetic hypo attack, a better effort could have been made to find something from somewhere. Staff need to be alerted to the seriousness of diabetes and ideally, a supply of biscuits (say), kept in the bar for such incidences. Still not sure why the kitchen closed at 9 pm either. Seems to be very early for a first class hotel. We all remained hungry. Car parking is far from intuitive too. You need to aim for the Grosvenor Shopping Centre car park and find the hotel lift on Level 2. We couldn't, and ended up dragging our things all through the centre to the Hotel front door. Better signage in the car park is certainly needed.

Chester Hotel par excellence

Posted 12-Jun-2015
Pros: Luxury, excellent food and a comfortable room. Valet parking was a plus.
Cons: I can't think of anything
Location: This is in the centre of Chester, Roman remains, beautiful churches and a cathedral, shopping, racecourse, restaurants, have I missed anything?
Our second stay at this hotel, the experience was excellent. We had no complaints and the stay was faultless.

Strange room

Posted 29-Apr-2015
Pros: The car parking facility was really good, The only members of staff that made the enough to take to you.
Cons: There needs to be tea and coffee facility in the rooms, that a usual requirement and most hotel. The staff need to welcome the guest more.
Location: The River Dee with boat trips and Chester Oaks shopping centre.
I had booked this room as a surprise for my husbands birthday, but the hotel did not live to its expectations. When checking in, it was reasonably pleasant but the reception staff were more about being efficient rather than using pleasantry's. I sat down and the staff member decided she would get someone else to serve me instead, even though the other staff member was accommodating and showed us to our room I felt uncomfortable. Nobody asked me about my stay and when asked if any availability in the restaurant she started by saying yes then was informed they were fully booked. I also checked if the room was including breakfast which she answered simple yes. I then found out when checking out it was only continental and when having breakfast there are no prices on the menu which is confusing. Breakfast was not cooked well also, sloppy scrambled eggs. The room was strange and not flat which was steeping downwards and was disorienting when getting out of bed. This itself was not worth the money spent. Spent the afternoon in the brasserie and the carrot cake was not the best and again the staff just rushed and not pleasant.

Posted 23-Apr-2015
Pros: Friendly staff good service
Cons: Bathroom toiletries and drinks facilities
Location: In the main shopping area but hotel quite . Down by the river nice to go if weather good and architect pub near the racecourse good for food
Excellent staff just a few silly things that you expect with 5 star no drink facilities in room or cosmetic cotton wool buds or pads . Bathroom on the small side and bath with shower curtain not a screen . Bed and pillows comfortable room a good size. Everywhere spotlessly clean and staff friendly. Food was very good . Enjoyable stay
