Nothing special for the price tag

Posted 10-Nov-2014
Arrived to a 25 minute wait at the check in desk. No problems at first, we were asked if we would like complimentary morning coffee to which we said yes...only to find out later on it had actually cost us £9.50. We finally managed to get up to the room after some confusion about the reservation to find the bottom three inches of the door was missing...not great privacy to say the least...and to find the same missing off the bathroom door was an unpleasant surprise too! Disturbances by maids and other staff ringing the deafening doorbell at 8am and 9am on a Sunday morning was not my idea of a relaxing Sunday morning lie in! Breakfast was non descript...cold toast and the same filter coffee as we were charged over the odds for at the 8am wake up call! Priced over the odds for a less than adequate product. On the upside the staff were lovely! Never again though thanks...

Heart of Chester

Posted 09-Oct-2014
Pros: Location and comfort.
Cons: Earlier room cleaning.
Location: See above
Location, location, location is the key. Right in the heart of Chester with easy access to the Cathedral, the Castle, the race track and the town hall. The continental breakfast included in the tariff was excellent. Overall a great experience.

I can not fault this hotel. From the reception to the rooms to the staff to the breakfast- it exceeded our expectations and it was simply a fantastic stay. Worth the price tag!! And will be returning again.

Great hotel and location in the heart of Chester

Posted 25-Aug-2014
Pros: Rooms location and staff
Cons: Could hear noise outside rooms
Location: Went for a wedding
All excellent especially the location, rooms, beds large and very comfortable, although our room did not have a view. Food and service was very good . Doormen very helpful. The only problem was that you could hear noise outside the rooms and doors slamming. However we would return for another stays as we really enjoyed our time at this excellent hotel.

not a 5* hotel as advertised

We booked an overnight stay at the grosvenor with friends as we were attending the races and its location was superb. However when we arrived in our room we were so disappointed at its size and decor. the main complaint we had was that there were no tea and coffee complimentary trays in any room. However when we asked at reception we were told that one could be provided by room service at no cost. This did arrive very quickly but did not even contain complimentary biscuits or other. We had to pay an additional £9.50 per person to upgrade to english breakfast and to be honest it was not worth the extra money. Food was only luke warm and service very poor. We were made to feel that the staff were actually doing us a favour by serving us, their attitude was so bad! All in all for the money spent on what is supposed to be a hotel we felt we would have had better service and comfort in a premier inn for half the price. One good point though is that the bed was very very comfortable.

Beautiful hotel. Love it.

From the moment you enter this hotel, you feel good. Whether its the large winding staircase with huge chandeliers and lush carpeting, I'm not quite sure what attracts me, but I keep going there again and again. Their staff are very professional, well educated and smartly dressed; everything a hotel of this calibre needs. I have only ever stayed in a basic room; although I have tried to upgrade, the hotel has been so busy, I've been declined. Maybe one of these days this might change. It is obviously very popular, being right in the centre of Chester and also rated the best hotel in the City. Bedroom comfort is extraordinary - beautifully comfortable beds, lovely bathroom with walk-in power shower. During my last stay dined in Simon Radley Restaurant and had an 8-course tasting menu which was such a lovely experience. I have stayed there now 3-4 times over the last two years and, for special occasions would not consider anywhere else in Chester, I enjoy it so much.

Very good all around

Thoroughly enjoyed our 1 night stay at the Hotel. Even though there was a wedding party going on the staff were helpful. The room was very well laid not. Not huge but well put together. The bed was comfortable and the bathroom was smallish. Had a fantastic meal in their main restaurant.
