“Former Waterfront Jewel $18M Rennovation”

The hotel was once a waterfront jewel. New ownership is doing a $18M rennovation. It is in bad condition, but clean and has a small restaurant and bar and the staff is FABULOUS. The location, perfect.

“Nice spot in downtown Charleston!”

I have stayed here several times over the past couple years and have never had any problems. The location was ideal for me being close to the Capitol Street bars, and the restaurants at the mall. In the summers they have free concerts friday nights at the bandshell on the river directly in front of this hotel!

“Old but improving”

This is an old hotel in a great location. It is in the process of getting a major update and it needs it. However it should be a really good hotel once all that happens.

“My stay for the Charlie West Blues Fest”

I didn't give a 5 because it is still a work in progress. They only had 1 elevator working but that is because they are putting new ones in. All in all I had a very enjoyable stay there. It was also VERY convenient to Haddad Riverfront Park.

I have stayed here many times over the years and have always found it to be acceptable and affordable. They have changed names many times, they seem to be in a constant state of renovation but not to the extent that it was bothersome. I have never had a problem with any of the staff My biggest and really only problem with this hotel is the undesirable element it attracts because of it's affordability. Pretty much every visit at least once there are drunken idiots in the hall way either yelling or simply talking very loudly at 3-4am. They walk up and down the hallways partying with their friends completely oblivious to the fact they're in a hotel. They are both black and white, young (often appearing underage) and adult (20's to 40's). This last strip I had to call security once on Thursday at 4am and then twice on Saturday at 4am; the first call I heard the employee tell them to keep it down and go to their rooms. That lasted about ten minutes then I had to call again. They need better security and they need to get the cops involved when the scumbags simply won't behave or are blatantly drunk (and often underage too!). It's a shame because it's a great location and decent people trying their best to run it. I'll think twice next time, maybe pay a bit more not be awoken in the middle of the night by drunken idiots.

“Charleston Hotel great location”

The Hotel needs many updates it is old. However the staff was very nice . We had an extemely had time getting ahold of the Hotel but later found out that they has the phones hit by lightening. My only complaint was they had a convention of AA members there. Well the vice given up was taken up by smoking and the smokes stood right in the front of the Hotel and everytime we came in and out the doors we were slapped in the face by cigarette smoke. They need to get a different area for the smokes or move the conference room to the side of the Hotel and have a door there that people can come in and out...

“Renovations Underway”

They are in the middle of renovating this hotel, so I would not recommend staying here until the summer of 2012.

“Average motel, doing remodel”

This motel is quite out of date and in need of repair, luckily it's in the process of a remodel. I was quite happy with our stay other than the window in our room wouldn't shut all the way. We had a draft of cold air all night, I would have asked to move but didn't want to move all of our stuff. There was also a party or something there was a lot of noisy people outside the hall around midnight. The desk in the room was very wobbly but worked. The wireless internet worked great. For the price I paid since it was a secret motel I was happy. However had I paid full price I would have been somewhat upset. Also you have to pay $6/day to park, there is no free parking. One bonus it overlooks the Kanawha River and the view was spectacular. We were on the 9th floor.
