city break and family get together.

Posted 17-May-2015
Pros: location and friendly staff.
Cons: slightly confusing how to get to reception as it was on the second floor but a minor detail.
Location: right in the heart of Cardiff so so convenient for everything a city has to offer.
fully enjoyed my stay at the hotel always makes for a feel good experience when you don't have to worry about it/

Nice hotel, central location.

Posted 22-Apr-2015
Pros: Expedia
The hotel's central location makes it easy to explore Cardiff. We had a cosy small double room, clean and had everything we needed. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Was good to stay in the oldest hotel in Cardiff. Can recommend the Royal Hotel to anybody who is looking for a nice hotel for a reasonable price.

really nice hotel, close to train and bus station

Posted 20-Apr-2015
Pros: Really central and convenient. Staff were friendly.
Cons: Pillows where a bit tired and could do with being replaced. Lots of steps up to reception.
Location: Right by the train and bus station. Castle, Market and lots of pubs within 5 minutes. The bay is further out, but easy to jump on a bus!
I couldn't knock this hotel for the price, right in the middle of town, close to arcades, pubs, restaurants. My room was quiet and comfortable. I was on business but this would be fine for a weekend break. Didn't have breakfast or eat at the hotel so cannot comment, there are lots of places to eat including the wonderful market hall if you want a cheap but tasty sandwich!!

excellent location

Posted 19-Apr-2015
Pros: cleanliness style of the room.
Cons: The lifts to the rooms and reception can be a bit annoying, but manageable.
Location: bus station stadium railway shopping malls
Excellent location, close to the railway, bus station (very very close), shops, stadium, and castle. The staff are friendly. Clean. I would stay here again. TV quality very good. Complementary tea.coffee, hot chocolate in room. Would stay here again.

Great position in central Cardiff.

Posted 15-Apr-2015
Pros: Great convenient position, very clean and comfortable bedrooms and public rooms.
Location: Close to Cardiff train and bus stations. Near shops and entertainment venues.
We stayed for two nights at this very convenient hotel, close to all central attractions and amenities. The hotel has been modernised and is very clean and comfortable. It is of historical interest as it was where Captain Scott and his officers stayed before they sailed from Cardiff to the South Pole. The hotel is excellent value for money and I will definitely stay here in the future.

Some of the rooms in this hotel are awful. They are small and have just a single small window situated high up in the wall, well above head height. For anyone with a hint of claustrophobia this can become a serious issue. We refused our first room and were allocated another which was worse. The third attempt was satisfactory. We understood that the breakfast was £9 extra but we were charged £11.50 each and then had to wait because there was not enough food and the buffet had to be recharged. There are plenty of nearby restaurants serving breakfast so this was a one-off experience. Our main complaint was about the rooms and after this was resolved we enjoyed our stay.

Served its purpose.

Posted 12-Apr-2015
Pros: Its very central.
Cons: More appropriate use of space.
The room we were given had obviously been a single, previously (the single headboard was still attached to the wall!).That's how it should have stayed. The room was far too small for the (king size?) bed which had been shoehorned into it. Nor was this reflected in the rate. On the other hand, the hotel's very central and served its purpose.

Basic room ideal for stag parties.

Posted 08-Apr-2015
Pros: Nothing.
Cons: Needs to be completely revamped. Dirty chairs need binning/cleaning. Floors need carpet. Room needed upgrading. Really should offer tea/coffee making.
Location: Bars, clubs, McDonalds
I had a very disappointing stay here. I regularly travel to Cardiff and have stayed in many hotels here and this was my poorest experience. Lots of stairs, check in on second floor. Room was more like that of a hostel and very, very basic. Not carpet but scuffed plastic flooring reminiscent of an old Woolworths store. Room had 3 single beds, 2 stained chairs and TV. No facilities to make a hot drink!!! Bedding was white and clean but with small holes in sheet etc. It is opposite McDonalds and right next to clubs and bars so ideal for a group of young men on cheap stag night out. I will not visit again.
