Won't choose for the next trip

Posted 19-Jul-2015
Pros: great location
Cons: staff
The reception guy kept talking on the phone while we were waiting to check in. The hotel is on the second floor of the building. There is no lift from the ground floor to the second floor, so be careful if you have very heavy luggage.

Central locatiom

Posted 02-Jul-2015
Pros: Location is great.
Cons: The mattress showed signs of wear listing to one side as if one could fall or side off the bed.
Location: Close to the Cardiff Central Market and homemade welsh cakes. A short wak to Cradiff castle and the animal wall, Bute park, shoppin
This hotel is centrally located on St Marys St, a short walk from the Central Train Station. It is a very old hotel and historically interesting in architecture and layout. It met our needs for one night stop over.

The reception staff (female) was hostile to myself and my 86 yr old aunty. There was no nice welcome only miserable women who we both found unhelpful. Quite abrubt when we reported the toilet seat not fitting as this was dangerous for my aunty. It was not urgent for the staff and 3 days later it still wasnt fixed. Couldnt wait to leave this hotel

Great location

Posted 27-Jun-2015
The hotel is in a great spot, two minutes from the train station and a stones throw away from lots of great shops, cafes and restaraunts. We were lucky enough to be upgraded, with a few members of staff telling us that it was the 'best room in the hotel'. It was nice - clean, big, nice bathroom - but nothing special and it left me wondering what the other rooms were like if ours was being hailed as the best. It was a little dated, but that being said, we didn't spend much time there anyway so if the location is more important to you its fantastic for that. Also - the hotel has its own bee hive and use 'bee friendly' honey products in their bathrooms which is a nice quirk (it's an intentional beehive I should add, they haven't got an infestation). Overall, for the price alone it's a bargain.

Nice Hotel in the City Center

Posted 21-Jun-2015
The hotel was very nice and clean, with a large bed and convenient location. The staff were helpful, though reception is on the second floor so take the lift if you have luggage.

Perfect city-centre hotel.

Posted 27-May-2015
Pros: Friendly staff, nice decor, comfort.
Location: Restaurants, bars, Cardiff Bay only 15 minute walk away.
We stayed in Cardiff for one night, and found the Royal ideal for our needs. There are a wide variety of food and drink options just outside the hotel itself, ranging from Subway/McDonalds to some very nice local restaurants. The hotel itself is a hidden gem, the staff are excellent and the rooms are finished to a high standard. I would certainly recommend this hotel to other people and we will be staying here next time we are in Cardiff.
