We had an overnight stay here which was very convenient for seeing a concert at Utilita Arena in Cardiff. The check in was very fast. The manager was very friendly and helpful by carrying our luggage to our room. The room is clean and comfortable. The full English breakfast was very good and served piping hot. I highly recommend this hotel/pub.

Our stay was great, the manager was really kind, friendly and polite, let us check in before the 2pm time so we were able to get to the game. Gave us advice on transport on how to get to the station, nothing was too much. Breakfast the next morning was lovely and set us up for the day. Only thing I didn’t like was that the heating was on all night but that’s just a personal preference. Thank you for the hospitality

Traditional pub and restaurant with rooms. Large car park. Quiet and surrounded by houses, gardens and greenery. Slightly dated decor but warm and welcoming. Very clean, nice big room. Warm - in fact a tad too warm overnight, we had to open windows! Excellent value and cooked breakfast included. Happier staying here than in corporate hotel in Newport centre, very friendly barely a 10 minute bus ride away and less in a car.

Good place to stay
We chose this pub for convenience to Newport, price, parking & food availability. We received an excellent welcome & were well looked after throughout our stay. The room was good, quiet & clean. The bathroom was dated but perfectly adequate. The food was very good - cooked breakfast & restaurant meals too.

It was interesting to experience a stay in an old pub. The pub closed at 8:00 p.m. and you had to check in before they closed. To get to the room, we had to walk behind the bar and up a flight of stairs. Little availability of connections to charge your devices. Nice English breakfast included.

Sorry you weren't completely happy with your visit. Our check in time is displayed on the hotel information and guests do have keys to a separate hotel entrance once they have checked in, as was explained.

This is a traditional style pub and B&B. The facilities were good and the food was really tasty, good quality and very generous portions. The most outstanding thing was the staff. They were so friendly and welcoming. I highly recommend if you are happy with less mod-cons

Well located Inn with a big free car park. Very friendly staff on hand to greet you and check you in. Rooms are in keeping with the age of the inn, and are very clean and well maintained. Bed was comfortable although the pillows could do with replacement. All in all great value for money!

Pleasant stay
Overall a nice and pleasant stay and experience. Staff were very friendly and hospitable and provided a good service. Rooms were spacious and were well cleaned. A good breakfast was provided in the morning included in the price which added to the value for money. If you’re looking for a simple and stress free stay then this is the place.

Cheap stay
Nice compact room, with all Facilities if a bit dated. I didn't sleep particularly well due to the road noise and lack of any kind of blackout on the windows. The lady who showed me my room was polite and helpful. I was offered a free breakfast, but it wasn't available untill 7.30am. It would be a nice touch to offer something if you need to leave a little earlier for business.

Perfect homely welcoming. Pick over chain anytime
Fabulous hosts. So lovely both on the phone and in person. As we were leaving we literally said we would stay here again just for the hosts! Yes the hotel could do with a bit of a freshen up but if that happened you wouldn’t get it for such a great price so I’m not complaining at all. Breakfast was peaceful and tasty and served with smiles. Plenty of place to park. A key for entry when the venue isn’t open.

The people make this property! The service was lovely, so friendly and efficient with a tasty breakfast cooked to order. The room is clean and functional so I’d say it’s good value. The pillows were slightly uncomfortable however that’s a really minor thing. Thanks for the lovely stay!

Stayed 1 night. Pleasant welcome by the couple who run the pub. Dinner was excellent with good service and friendly staff. As the night was warm, the room was unpleasant to stay in till later when it cooled down. The room has no A/C or a fan. But the room was clean and the bed was comfy. The breakfast was excellent. I will definitely come back when the weather is a bit cooler.

Ideal hotel for Cardiff / Newport
Wanted a comfortable room an easy drive from a gig in Cardiff city centre. The Rising Sun ticks all the boxes. Friendly, family run, nice welcome and good breakfast. Room had everything I needed too. Would be the first place I try next time I need to stay in South Wales.

There is a House in Rogerstone......
Pleasant surprise to find such a lovely place so close to where we had to be for Pete the Veg's funeral. And the landlady knew Pete - some co-incidence. As we were so late booking we had to make do with the twin room. Next time (and there will be as my son lives close by) we will book early to make full use of the lovely surroundings.

Unreliable and unhelpful. They did not honour my booking made that same evening, turned me away at 10.45 pm and did nothing to help. The second terrible experience on Expedia in one evening.

Sorry but your gripe is with expedia not us. We clearly state our check in time is between 2pm and 8pm. The premises shuts at 10pm.
