Location was good. It was neat and good. The prices could have been higher. The great disappointment was not providing aircon and not even a fan in the bunkbed rooms was disappointing. The fact that they have charged quite low doesnt give us to understand that basic amenities like providing fan in Cairns/tropical places was hard to believe. If fans are not provided they should have described in the offer. before being booked and that no fans and no aircon was a real punishment. Such rooms without fans should be against law and must be banned. Let them charge more but provide table fans/floor fans or say clearly that there are no fans.

Very disappointed that the aircon did not work. Lucky we found a fan in the cupboard otherwise we would of had to sleep outside because the room was too hot.

Frankly the accommodation is basic, a spin off from a backpackers hostel. It's benefits would be a central location & possibly cost. In the hostel side a single room has no facilities whatsoever, no hangers, no glasses, TV without remote & a sagging bed. On the non-backpackers side, where I had to move at additional cost, 3 hangers, glasses & crockery, microwave & remote for TV. During my 6 nights stay, no servicing of the room. The possible benefits would be a central location & maybe cost.

Good Location and Friendly Staff
The location is great, check-in smooth, and we got a good deal on a private room which was clean and tidy, and all tours picked-up from front door. The only issue was the condition of the hostel common kitchen/dining due to other guests who need someone to clean up after them.

Couldn't get much worse.
When reading about this place I understood that I was Getting my own room with shared Bathroom and facilities. I got a room with 4 sets of Bunk Beds and 6 out of 8 Beds were taken and I had the Choice of 2 Top Bunks. At Sixty Seven and worn out Ankles,Knees and a Bad Back I explained I couldn't get up there I was then told I could have a Family room but had to pay another $90. I reluctantly paid it and Having just met a Guy who had worked in the same game as me and was meeting up with People I might know showed me round and we had a Magic night till after midnight got back to my room to find it full of Cockroaches I spent the Next 2 hours clearing them out before grabbing a Couple of Hours and had to wait till doors opened so to get the Car out and away.

You get what you pay for.
Pros: Toilet flushed, water drained, good water pressure, air conditioning was better than nothing. Cons: Filthy - the shower was coated in mold, the air conditioner was held together with duct tape, there were hairs all over the bathroom floor, the room looked like it was all-around falling apart, not sure if housekeeping changes the sheets after each checkout, ants!, etc. Overall, pretty gross place to stay. I'd recommend you drop a few extra bucks for a decent place. If you don't mind living in filth to save a few bucks, this place was tolerable.

Koala Last Resort
When it comes to the dorm/share rooms at least, I would avoid this one. Air conditioner didn't work, the room was hotter than it was outside. Opened the windows but, with no screens, mosquitoes and other bugs got in. It was so hot it was impossible to sleep. The sheets had some very conspicuous stains. There was no handle on the bathroom door. The place in general is kinda gross. The check-in staff were quite helpful and nice though. The neighborhood is a little dicey, but on the upside it's only about two blocks from the water. It is very cheap, so I guess you get what you pay for, but I would pay a little bit more and stay at one of the many cleaner, better maintained hostels in the area.

Pretty awful.
Very shabby, no linen, a/c made heaps of noise but didn't do a thing, staff pretty unhelpful, ended up trying to sleep on the floor as the bed was just too hot. Shower/bathroom was quite good but no amount of cold showers can fight against the Cairns heat.

Really bad hotel but has a good location.
The hotel is really smelly. We had to buy some air freshener to stop the smell. The bed were not cleaned. Mould everywhere in the bathroom. The microwave stopped working. The air-condition were old. The floor were filled with dust. Do not go here if you are staying here for more than 2 nights. The internet was terrible. I would usually get around 0.50mbps for download and 0.02mbps for upload. As we slept in the in the night it was so smelly. In our room our fan didn't work because the switch was broken. The room has a small TV. Our room was next to the main door so every night as someone come through the door it would make a huge bang and it would wake up me and my family. They don't give you actual blankets. They give you a thin piece sheet of bed sheet. This is why it is the cheapest backpack place in town. We spent most of our time on the tours so we didn't mind to pay for the price of this bad condition of the room. If you are on the tight budget for your holiday and you love shopping I recommend this place but you should watch out the receptionist open-close hour for your convenient checkin-checkout or questions.

It was disappointing when we pulled up out front and it was also disappointing when we walked in. Had backpackers manning the front desk and weren't very professional- sitting on stool in short shorts and feet on desk!!Very basic not even enough cutlery for two! Rooms not cleaned for the 5 days we were there, had to ask where we have to take the rubbish! Air-con, when we turned it on sparks flew so didn't have it on all the time we were there. Fridge had not been cleaned, everything in kitchen mismatched and didn't feel clean., no tea towels. The only thing going for it was that it was handy to central Cairns and made getting to places easy. Everyone of the cabins we stayed in on the tablelands were 100% better.

Very tired
This hotel was extremely tired, both inside the room and outside, when you sat on the couch you almost sank through the cushions and you could not open the blind in the kitchenette/lounge area. There were also a lot of noisy guests while I was there. I would not stay there again unless it had a major refurbishment.

You get what you pay for
It's definitely not the Ritz Carlton, but it's fine if you don't plan on using your room for much other than sleeping and showering. There were ants galore, the toilet sounded like a jet taking off when flushed, and the beds were lumpy and threadbare. But the hotel staff was perfectly friendly and helpful, and you can't beat the location. Seriously, people. It's one of the cheapest places to stay in Cairns. What do you expect?
