Clean but not enough shower gel and the room door was a fiddle to lock properly. Parking was good and felt safe. Food was good but having booked and paid for breakfast to find out if wasn’t served until well after I left for work was irksome. On my checkin night at 9pm, I was ‘encouraged’ to leave the bar and take my drink to my room. This alone is enough for me to avoid booking this accommodation again despite the good proximity to my office.

Surprising a good short stay
Booked this as a last minute break, the weather was terrible but our stay at this hotel more than made up for it. We were made to feel welcome when we arrived and were delighted to find the main bus route ran outside the hotel allowing us to spend our three days exploring the area car free. The food on offer was excellent with a good choice each night that was wonderfully cooked and presented. The staff were friendly and efficient, making our stay relaxed and pleasant. We would not hesitate to recommend or to book another short stay.

We had a lovely few days away and fairly nice pub to stay in the only let down for us was it clearly states it had a electric charge point through this website and it doesn’t we only booked this place for that reason alone So was a tad let down having to go and charge the car somewhere each day

Very comfortable stay and a welcoming inn.
Just a single night here but very comfortable. Took advantage of the pub and restaurant! Nice food, arrived quickly. A good choice of ales available. The room was large, clean and comfortable. Our room was at the rear with a view of the steam railway. It was very nice to see a couple of trains arrive and depart. Our room was very quiet. Breakfast was very good and the staff were friendly and helpful.

Superb room - comfiest bed ever - friendly staff - great area - easy parking - lovely breakfasts Only downside was music (which was too loud) in the bar & restaurant in the evenings. We wanted to eat our evening meals there but we were told there were no quiet places to sit as the speakers were all around and the noise level could not be lowered so we had to find somewhere else to eat. Music that is too loud makes it difficult for anyone who may be a bit hard of hearing to enjoy conversation

Good, but expensive for what it is.
Very large room. Comfy bed. Felt a little dated with rusty bathroom furniture. Clean but not spotless. Right next door to the steam railway. Free parking, but remember to register your car number plate at the bar as the carpark is managed by parking vultures. Good evening meal and breakfast in the bar downstairs. Overal, good, but not great. Probably about 20% overpriced compared with other hotels in the area.

The rooms clean. The location is great near public transport (buses) - but after 2 days, I think it was the staff who just didn't "shine". The best person was the breakfast lady. Others might need to put on a brighter personality for guests. I really think that was all that was lacking.

The location for Galmpton was what I was after, near public transport was the reason I chose this location. Those reasons alone might not match yours. Built in the mid-1800's, the accommodation has been updated, the bathrooms very good and updated. Like most places I visited in November, I'm not sure when central heating will be turned on and deserved to be in the evenings and early AM - but wasn't. Breakfast was good and plentiful. Evening meals, I only had one and maybe I just chose the wrong meal. Service in the evening for dinner was a bit patchy and should be looked at. And as much as you said you "don't have bitters" - there it was on the shelf when I looked carefully next AM during breakfast - behind the wrapped chocolates. Orange juice isn't "orange cordial" either - but second time around that was fixed even though I kept correcting the "orange squash" read back of the order, the waiter kept repeating "orange squash" - not juice. Sigh.....

Don’t be put off by the unassuming exterior. Inside the welcome is warm and friendly, the rooms are comfortable, clean and spacious, and the food is awesome. A fabulous hotel for a quiet weekend break.

Brixham overnight stay
Not in the centre of Brixham, maybe our fault for not checking. Hotel little tired but very friendly and great service and breakfast. Evening food bit pricey but good. It was very busy in the evening so must have a good rep.

Don’t stop for breakfast if you are in a hurry!
I would have given this property a very high rating if we had not stopped for breakfast. Service was slow, especially for only five tables. (45 mins after we sat down before given anything to eat). Our table had not been cleaned/prepared after previous guests and their milk was left on the table for us. Breakfast was okay but sausages awful. All guests had had to wait. Seems ‘managers cook breakfast because chefs are not in until 10’. On the positive side. Staff when we checked in were welcoming and friendly. Room was spacious and clean and non-working ceiling fan was attended to immediately. Dinner was good, pub food.

The hotel is about half way between Paignton & Brixham next to the Dartmouth railway so you can see the steam trains go by. The room was fairly standard but spacious with a king size bed & a sofa & a nice bathroom. Our evening meal was really nice. Breakfast was a full English with really nice sausages plus a choice of cereal, toast & juices. There wasn’t a big choice for breakfast- no yoghurt, fruit, pastries, cheese, ham or croissants like you sometimes get - but i was quite happy with it. Staff were friendly & check in was quick & easy. They were well set up to deal with Covid with sanitiser, one way systems, screens at the bar & table service. Brixham is a great place to visit. A lovely harbour.

Staff were amazing, followed COVID restrictions and gave out instructions without any hesitation, very professional and informative. Basic accommodation but AMAZING food!
First impressions not good - could not get through to reserve a table for dinner on night of arrival, so left messages & asked for a confirmation, but not forthcoming. They mistook table at 7pm - for a table for 7 people! However, was reallocated and the food was amazing. Massive portions and beautiful - would heartily recommend. Need to book a table in advance as was very busy and all tables had been reserved on this Friday night. Check in was haphazard; kept waiting; couldn't find our booking for 2nd room on computer, so was worried that we might not have one, but was eventually sorted. Room pretty dated, but clean and adequate. Had a ceiling fan, but not explained how to use the remote, which I didn't see on the wall till too late. Duvets always too hot for my liking, so took my own top sheet. Ordered a drink in the bar but nowhere for residents to sit and advised all tables reserved for diners, so because our table was still occupied told we should sit in the garden - even though it was raining! Couldn't stand up re age & dodgy hip, so sat at one of the free tables & hoped! Bar service was very slow, probably because they were extremely busy with diners, and could have done with more staff. Said they were run off their feet. Operated Covid guidelines pretty well re cutlery, menus, table service etc. Overall, would definitely advise booking to eat here, the food was extremely good. Staying for one night en route was clean & adequate - but could do better!
