“Nice breakfast, bad room, too expansive”

I've had no normal blanket on bed bed, just a fleece blanket (unwashed) and a sheet - that wasn't really nice. The human resources have been very friendly and helpful, the breakfast was nice, too! But the price performance ratio wasn't so good.

“Cheap and effective”

Not the prettiest inside, nor particularly spacious - but cheap and good high speed wireless in all rooms (extra charge).

“Hotel needs modernisation and re'decorating.”

The staff employed were very good and helpful. The first room we had smelt of sewage, which as it was late we stayed in this room the first night. As soon as we mentioned the problem we were given a new room. Reception said they would organize a refund but as yet we have not been contacted.

Area recommendations
If the weather is good Bristol is a lovely place to visit with loads of interesting and historical things to see.

“Really happy with this hotel experience”

The people at the front desk were really friendly and super helpful. Breakfast was great each day, hot and made to order with a nice variety of offerings. A small 24 hour room service menu was offered at very reasonable prices, with even a menu for pet guests available! The room was also nicely equipped with tea and coffee, a hot pot and French press, and cookies and fruit at no extra charge. It was a nice touch and was replenished daily. This is an older place but I feel it's extremely well kept and I had a really pleasant experience overall. The neighborhood is lovely and quiet also. This is not for people who feel they need a lot of extras and luxuries, but it more than does the job for a comfortable place to stay and I felt safe and well taken care of the whole time.

“Perfectly adequate”

Good points: Breakfast included & lovely! Choice of cooked breakfast in addition to range of cereals/fruit. Friendly & helpful receptionists 24 hrs a day. Unlimited ground coffee (with a cafetiere - a lovely touch!), loose tea and hot chocolate supplied in room, along with the standard instant coffee/teabag sachets. Bed comfortable enough. Less good points: Room size (single room) small but good sized bathroom. Room decor a little on the tired side. Would have preferred a non-basement room. Conclusion: Pretty good value for money in my opinion. I went for this one over the Clifton (on the same road, actually part of the same group of hotels as the Washington) due to the inclusive breakfast. Would probably stay here again!

Area recommendations
The Clifton area is lovely - lots of little cafes & shops to wander around. Brunel's Clifton suspension bridge is only a 15 minute walk from the hotel.

“Shall ask for an upstairs room”

Next time I go on my own I will ask for an upstairs room! As a female on my own I did feel vulnerable as my room was quite isolated from other residents and reception ( I was downstairs in the basement ). Fortunately I did not see that there had been a repair to the window until the morning, could this have been as a result of a break in or just maintainence? Which ever I was glad I missed seeing that on my arrival! Havinv said all that my room was just right in size and comfort and was quiet.

Area recommendations
The area where I was as it seemed to be quiet but within easy reach of many attractions. It was also very convenient for my stay as regards the people I was visiting.
Getting there
If going from York on a train make sure you get the right station destination as the two stations in Brsitol are at opposite sides and you could end up with an expensive taxi ride to get to you rfinal destination. Check how many stops the train is making. My return journey went to Wales, nothing wrong with Wales it just adds on an hour and 10 mins to the journey - lessons learnt! I've been told that changing the train can quicken the journey time - that I need to investigate for next time!

“Service with a Smile”

The breakfast here is great, and the night porter was really helpful and courteous. Not the poshest hotel, and the decor is a little dated- but perfectly ok (especially given the price). The room was clean and had TV, cafetiere coffee, and even hot chocolate and a bowl of fruit!

Area recommendations
Clifton is great, it has loads of cool bars and restaurants.
