Taste of the Scottish Borders
Had a wonderful stay at Merlindale while visiting family in Drumelzier. Denise was very accomdating and made our stay perfect. The complimentary breakfast supplies were appreciated. Spent most nights curled up on the super comfy couches with a roaring fire ehile our older kids played ping pong making this trip very memorable and look forward to returning soon.

Lovely peaceful break
We had a lovely, peaceful and relaxing stay at Merlindale. The apartment was very nice and fitted out to a high standard. We enjoyed days out visiting the local towns as well as Edinburgh which is only 1 hour away.

Property is as described. Quaint and peaceful. You do need a car to get around as mentioned in the listing but the area is very scenic and pretty. You can easily unwind with nature for a few days and it's also close enough to Edinburgh and Glasgow for to drive (just short of an hour) if you'd like to visit. Would recommend.

Peaceful stay
This property is in a beautiful area, with lovely walks and is very peaceful. The apartment itself was spotless and nothing was too much trouble. The communication with our host was easy and helpful. We would love to come and stay another time.

Scenic and comfortable stay at Merlindale
This is an exceptional apartment in an outstandingly beautiful area. The accommodation was extremely spacious and well-equipped/furnished and we had everything we could possibly need for a very comfortable stay. The provision of breakfast basics, tea, milk etc. was greatly appreciated, as were Denise’s helpful texts with suggestions for things to do, walks, etc. Above all, we loved the grounds and the surrounding countryside. As we were in the Peebles area for a family wedding at Neidpath castle, we were frequently out and about on errands, but we made a point of walking along the woodland path in the grounds each day and enjoying the peace and quiet sitting on the bench at the end. On a couple of occasions we were also able to try out one of the suggested country walks a little further afield. We also had a lovely morning at the botanical gardens at Dawyck. We were fortunate with the weather and enjoyed some spectacular sunsets from the living-room window. Merlindale is an ideal base, to which we hope to return and explore further.

The property is very quaint and cozy. The grounds are stunning, with so much greenery and even some wildlife! Birds, rabbits, squirrels, deer, etc. The included amenities (washing machine, full kitchen, fireplace) all made us feel all the more at home. I cannot recommend this property enough for anyone looking to experience the Scottish country side!

The apartment was as advertised. We appreciated the welcome pack and the essentials. The place is a lot bigger than it looks in the pictures. It had everything needed for a restful stay. We enjoyed the peaceful surroundings and the comfortable bed after our hill walks and trail runs. The washer & dryer was a huge bonus after the wet outings. The place is perfect for a family or sharing with friends, we would love to revisit and explore the rest of the hills in future. Thank you Denise.

I couldn't find fault with the welcome and facilities. It is a peaceful relaxing place but plenty nearby if you want more activity. A thoughtful collection of useful groceries was most welcome. Lovely getaway - Confortable apartment
We spent a lovely week at Merlindale apartment. It was very well equipped with the bonuses of a Table tennis and football table for my two boys, plus the football goal outside in the garden. A very spacious and lovely place. Very confortable beds and all the basic essentials left on arrivals were a lovely touch. Communication with Denise was fantastic and we were given lots of tips about places to go. Great location and we loved the surrounding area. Thank you! FANTASTIC SELF CATERING APARTMENT IN THE BORDERS

Lovely getaway in what felt a very remote part of the Scottish Borders, but is very close to Peebles and Biggar. It's got everything you need for a relaxing time away, we'll definitely be back!

Fabulous apartment in beautiful location
The owners of the property were wonderful, they sent clear instructions prior to our arrival. The apartment is huge, it has absolutely everything anyone could possibly want - full size fridge, freezer, washing machine, dishwasher, oven and hob, lots of crockery, glasses and cutlery. A “Welcome Pack” was a very thoughtful gift as well as being utterly delicious. The property is set in a beautiful part of Scotland and within spectacular grounds. If you need a peaceful place to regain your sanity this is definitely the place for you. We wholeheartedly recommend this property.

Spacious, clean accommodation with excellent facilities. Denise is very welcoming and helpful, The facilities are well thought out and presented. One small point is that the location of wifi is limited within the property. Troublesome, as mobile signals are poor in the area. Great for a holiday in a country location.

Weekend Country Retreat
Wonderful apartment on the ground floor of Merlindale House surrounded by beautiful grounds in the countryside between Broughton & Peebles. Very clean, comfortable & well appointed accommodation with your every need catered for. Plenty information on the area for nearby walks, history & places of interest. Books, DVD's, CD's & games including table tennis & table football. A welcome pack with freshly baked bread, butter, eggs, milk, jams and biscuits as well as tea and coffee was a lovely touch. Very spacious hall & rooms with plenty of space for a family with 2 or 3 children. Cannot recommend this accommodation or the communication/welcome from Denise enough & look forward to returning.

In the 15 acres of grounds we have red squirrels, hares, deer , pheasants and all sorts of unusual birds all encouraged by wild flower meadows and carefully planned gardens. The nesting herons at this time are a delight. There is lots to see and do here.

Lovely apartment
We enjoyed four nights at the apartment in April. We walked from the door on the banks of the Tweed, to the botanical gardens at Dawyck and to the magical atmospheric ruins of Tinnis castle. The accommodation was comfortable, spacious and well equipped and the grounds were delightful.

A very comfortable stay in the Borders
We spent 3 nights in the apartment which was excellent, very clean & comfortable. We were given a very warm welcome & having a range of groceries to start us off was great! The apartment was very spacious and well-appointed, and the log burner in the main sitting room was lovely. The beds were comfortable and having a bathroom & a shower room was ideal for our group. The grounds round the house are beautiful with some very tall trees! We were given recommendations as to visits that were within easy reach of Merlindale and had a great time visiting Peebles, Melrose, & Jedburgh. We would definitely recommend Merlindale as a great place as a base for a holiday in the Borders.

Excellent, welcoming and comfortable stay. Well placed for for sightseeing.
Ideal for a quiet holiday in The Borders. Well equipped house and welcoming owners. We spent two days exploring locally - St. Mary's Loch and the towns of Peebles, Selkirk and Kelso. An enjoyable visit to Floors Castle and gardens and a stop at Melrose Abbey were on the itinerary. These were planned before we arrived but a lot of information is provided at Merlindale if you come less prepared. We travelled to Loch Lomond and the Trossachs and took in Edinburgh which was very lively due to the Edinburgh Festival. A shopkeeper in Selkirk told us about the 'Great Polish Map of Scotland' so we made a point of visiting the site. A very interesting story and project. At the end of each day Merlindale was a restful place to come home to.

Merlindale has to be the best VRBO in which we have stayed. Spacious, relaxed, genuine 5 star.!
Strategically located south of Glasgow and Edinburgh on the Tweed, it easily accommodates 2 couples or a family. Great facilities, local knowledge from host and the most comfortable of facilities. Merlindale is a real gem if you are visiting the Scottish Borders. A wonderful retreat after a day exploring the many local walks, historic sites and major cities (best visited by driving to smaller towns from which you can catch bus or train to city centres). Cannot recommend it highly enough. ! Thank you Denise.

The house was beautiful and so was the location. Our only disappointment was that there was no tumble dryer (one was listed). We were within driving distance of all the things we wanted to see.

Very pleased that the visitors enjoyed their stay and found the location a good one for seeing many interesting places in Scotland. We have a dryer which is attached to the ceiling and is very good at drying clothes but has been in the house a long while. We had a washer dryer which we had to replace as visitors didn't seem to realise you had to take half the load out to tumble dry after a wash and lost the will to live! We replaced it with a more efficient washing machine. Our apologies if this was not as listed.

A large, luxurious apartment within a beautiful house, in a glorious setting near the River Tweed.
This 5* luxury apartment catered for all our needs. The Welcome tray exceeded expectations. Everything is spotlessly clean, and of high quality. The rooms are stylishly decorated, with beautiful bedding, towels, and curtains/blinds/shutters. Where else can you have a comfortable home-from-home, yet play table tennis in the hallway, and table football in the Utility? I lost both matches! Our hostess, Denise, was very welcoming, and we were fascinated by her written pieces about Arthurian / Merlin legend. Ideally located for Border touring, or Tweed fishing. Peebles provides supermarkets, fuel, and dining out. We recommend The Tontine in Peebles, especially the local lamb, which melted in the mouth. We used Park & Ride at Straiton for a day trip to Edinburgh (as suggested by Denise), and this was ideal for a walk up and down the Royal Mile, with peaceful elevenses and later lunch at The Festival Theatre. We had much too short a stay here, and will definitely return. One small point, which in no way spoilt things for us, but might if you planned to use the washing / drying facilities at Merlindale; the dryer is not electrical, but a maiden hanging from the ceiling in the Utility, so technically a dryer but not my understanding of it!

Really pleased our visitors enjoyed their break with us. We have recently replaced our washer dryer machine with a washing machine only. This is mainly because visitors did not realise you had to take out half your load when using the dryer and it made its protests and died! We do have an old fashioned but wonderfully effective ceiling dryer. However I should put this in the details! Thank you so much Lorna for such a detailed review. We now have a Merlin trail which is very interesting and very local.

Lovely, spacious apartment with everything needed for a comfortable stay.
Very spacious and beautifully furnished apartment set in a lovely garden next to the Tweed River. We had a lovely relaxing stay and it is a great base to explore the villages and places of interest in the surrounding valleys. Great stay in the Tweed Valley
The apartment was huge and extremely well equipped for our three night stay. We loved that Denise provided some basic foodstuffs which served us very nicely. We are on an extended vacation so the clothes washer and drying facilities were great. We also loved the Peebles area.

Fantastic apartment and location
This apartment is really quite special . Very peaceful location. It was spotlessly clean and lots of nice little extra touches. We were very warmly welcomed by Denise and the hospitality tray was greatly appreciated. My grandson loved the football table and table tennis . The apartment was warm and cosy and the log burner was great too. Kitchen is very well equipped . The beds were very comfortable and the bedding is of excellent quality. I would strongly recommend this fantastic apartment to anyone looking for somewhere special for a break.

Wow!,what an amazing property
This property is definitely a hidden gem. We had a fantastic time with our 2 children. The apartment is huge and very well maintained. It is a home away from home. Denise and Jim certainly went above and beyond to ensure that we had provisions from the moment we arrived. The bread, coffee, tea, milk, cereals, jam etc were very welcomed by us all. The apartment is a perfect base to explore Scotland and the surrounding area is stunningly beautiful. We would definitely return.

Beautiful apartment, we felt very welcome.
My family, including our 13 yr old daughter and 10 yr old son, enjoyed a wonderful few days at Merlindale. We based ourselves here while we visited Bowhill, Peebles and even Edingurgh. It is a great location on the Scottish Borders to access so many sites. The house had everything we needed and we really appreciated the little extras, including the breakfast supplies and wood for the fire. My son especially appreciated the wood fire! Our children also enjoyed wandering around the beautiful garden, playing the games and table soccer. We would love to come back and would highly recommend this apartment for family and friends.

This family would have stayed on for longer because there is so much to see and do in this area. Many travel further afield to Stirling , Glasgow, St.Andrews , Bannockburn because these places are are an hour or so away. We welcome all families, couples (we have had several honeymooners) and friends. There are also many types of wildlife in the extensive gardens as well as the river.(Pheasants, many varieties of birds, squirrels, rabbits, deer etc.)

Wonderful place
We spend marvellous days in this nice appartement with its high standard equipment and enjoyed the beautiful garden and the environment. The host was very cordial and attentive, the flat clean, spacious and comfortable. Requests had been answered immediately and in the friendliest manner. The welcome pack with ingredients for afternoon tea and breakfast was a lovely gesture, and our children had a lot of fun with the table tennis. Would love to come back!

Ho fatti diversi viaggi alloggiando in strutture homeaway Questa esperienza in questa casa è stata favolosa!!!! Faccio fatica a trovare un difetto mentre a livello di confort è davvero notevole. Casa confortevole, calda, accessoriata in tutto,cortesia dei proprietari, siamo stati accolti mettendoci a disposizione the, caffè,biscotti, marmellate, pane uova e ancora altro. Zona notte con dei letti di una comodità estrema, ho adorato quel letto ora lo rimpiango. Zona giorno con un salone dotato di tre comodissimi divani, un camino con stufa a legna, legna messa a disposizione dal proprietario, angolo lettura angolo giochi, la cucina accessoriata di tutto, siamo riusciti a cucinare qualsiasi cosa, carne, pesce, pasta, pizza, focaccia e dolci vari. Due bagni con doccia comoda acqua bollente e con pressione, ci hanno messo a disposizione un tavolo da ping pong un piccolo calcio balilla. Se devo trovare un difetto che poi non lo è, la caldaia adiacente la cucina un po' rumorosa, ma che nelle ore notturne non era affatto di disturbo!!! Ringrazio calorosamente la proprietà e grazie ad homeaway Fantastico!!!
