“Very Nice, Good Service, Difficult to Drive To”
We loved the hotel. We had difficulty getting to it by car, because we were in an unfamiliar city (Strasbourg). The hotel staff were very helpful.
“Worth Considering for easy access to the sights”
Chose Novotel because I've stayed at a few in other countries, with some assurance of quality. In that respect, I was not disappointed. The hotel location is quite nice, a shopping mall is adjacent to the hotel, and the Strasbourg Tram line is right out side the door. The cathederal is about a 5 minte walk and the petit France area of Strasbourg is about a 10 minute walk. Rooms were not 'fancy' at all, but the beds were comfortable and the rooms were clean. Front desk staff were very nice and helped us find our meeting location and recommended best way to get around town. All of them spoke english well, which helped for my lack of french! Breakfast was very adequate - hot and cold food - just as expected. The hotel's work out facility is pretty basic - 1 treadmill, 1 elliptical and a weight machine, but it was all in good shape and clean. However, the river was very convenient and I just ran along the river and enjoyed the sights. Hint: request a room with an 'odd' number, since they overlook the city center. The 'even' rooms look out at another buidling. Overall, a decent place to stay - not for you if you are looking for luxury - but for most business travellers and vacationers who want to spend time outside their room, a reasonable place to stay for a few days.
“Great location and service in the heart of Strasbourg”
When some reviewers write that the hotel is located in a "shopping centre", this needs to be seen in the context of Strasbourg and may give a slightly wrong impression. The hotel is in fact part of a building complex, which also houses a shopping centre. However, it has a separate entrance and you don't even need to enter the shopping area to get to reception. Also, while the reference to a "shopping centre" somehow suggests that the hotel is in a business area, this was not my impression. On the contrary, my room at the front of the hotel had a nice view on the tree-lined river with only very little traffic. The cathedral is literally a 5-minute walk away and you feel as if you stay right in the centre. Breakfast was included and excellent. So was the service when I had a problem with the sink in my bathroom. The only thing not obvious from the description was that the "free wifi" does not allow you to make calls from p2p applications such as Skype. This costs costs you extra. It's fine for checking e-mail, though.
“Convenient to train station”
We stayed one night at this hotel on our way through Strasbourg by train. We got the very regular D (or A) tram line one stop from the train station and it was just across the road, so not far to carry bags and easy to get back for our train the next morning. Our room had a double bed and fold out couch for us and our two kids, and was everything that we expected. Hotel staff were polite and very helpful.
“Very good option when travelling with a baby!”
We enjoyed Novotel Strasbourg very much. The hotel is centrally located, inside a mall. And it is a walking distance from the most touristic attractions. We have a baby, and the room was spacious enough and very clean. And the baby crib was already ready when we check in. I would certainly stay there again!
“No frills, gets the job done.”
Traffic around the area can get congested. It is located at the corner of the mall, so groceries, food and shopping were very convenient. The breakfast was well stocked and maintained for a typical European breakfast. Just a few blocks from some nice restaurants (you just need to know which way). The room was a decent size and functional. Not a bad option if you just need an economical place to stay. We had a car and parking was reasonable at around 5 Euros a night.
“Would not recommend to our friends”
The hotel on its own is sort of OK. It is 3 stars at the end of the day and you get what you pay for. The hotel is situated on the actual river Lille bank only 5 min walk from Place Kleber and 10 min walk to the Cathedral. The problem is that the hotel is situated inside a shopping centre, which made the whole place around noisy and dirty. We were lucky to have stayed on a Saturday night so at least we managed to enjoy a quieter Sunday. Also if you are staying during the week there is a busy tram stop just outside the hotel which adds to the noise. One of the other reviews said, that the rooms were big for European standards, but I do not think that is the case. Our room was not nice, everything looked very cheap and plastic, not to mention the hotel outside, it was dreadful, like a big cream coloured plastic cube. There was no concierge and the receptionist gave her wrong information on where to find a crepperie, which we never did, only spent an hour in the freezing cold looking for it. So to summarise, we wouldn not stay in this hotel again, and we would not recommend it to our friends, unlike the city of Strasbourg itself which was just beautiful.
“Great position to shops, station and little Paris”
The Hotel is in a very good position to railway station, shops and the Old Town "little Paris". Easy access by car and hotel parking at a reasonable cost underneath hotel. The room was very spacious for "French Standards" 3 adults and a 5 month old bay. Seperate toilet and complimentary tea/coffee making facilities, plus it was very quiet. The only negative was the sofa bed was very "springy" - not so comfy! Would stay again. MM Australian
