Everything about our stay at the Douglas was beyond our expectation. Friendly staff who went the extra mile to insure we were well taken care of during our time on the isle of Arran. Food was excellent. Our entire party of 9 (five rooms) all want to return again in the future.
Very conveniently located for the ferry and with wonderful views, this hotel is well-run with friendly, helpful staff. The rooms are spacious and very comfortable. The menu has plenty of variety and the food was high quality. Booking a table, even in the bar, is strongly advised. There’s plenty of outside space for when the weather permits.
Spent two nights with family over Easter weekend.
Rooms are large with tea coffee available NO WATER.
Food - OK, not great
Service/staff - mainly friendly and helpful.
Location - great
If weather not good there is very limited lounge area to relax and chat
The hotel was fantastic. The hotel is beautifully decorated and the staff are very professional and welcoming. The room was lovely. It had beautiful views and had everything we needed.
The position I’d the hotel is great - Straight off the ferry - it’s literally opposite the ferry port. Lots going on in Brodick and Lamlash only 3 miles away.
Wonderful Stay at the hotel. We were made to feel very welcome and our room was perfect. We ate in the restaurant for Breakfast and dinner twice. The food was excellent as was the service.
We had a lovely stay. The hotel is in an ideal location, just across the road from the ferry terminal. The atmosphere was welcoming as soon as we arrived. We enjoyed a superb meal with a very varied menu, and breakfast was tasty. Our room was spacious comfortable and warm. All the staff were friendly and helpful. We will return.
We had the best stay in the Douglas Hotel. The room was amazing. The huge bed was so comfortable. The whole hotel is spotless. The food was delicious. The staff were so unbelievably helpful and friendly. We cannot fault one thing in the hotel. Being very close to the ferry terminal was also an added bonus for us arriving late at night during a storm. I would thoroughly recommend staying here. We would definitely return here again. Thank you for your kind service during our stay.
My husband & I have just returned from a 3 night break in The Douglas. He had booked the hotel and I expected it to be pleasant and clean but perhaps ‘traditional’ and possibly a little reserved. Our experience far exceeded our expectations!!
We were greeted with a very warm welcome from Holly on reception; the room was beautifully clean & tastefully decorated and felt just the quality and ambience you would hope for a getaway treat.
The food was amazing - from the gorgeous heartwarming breakfast to the best (Brazilian) Prawn Curry I have ever tasted.
The restaurant & bar staff were friendly and nothing was too much trouble. A particular shout out to Nicol, who was great, but there were many more who we just didn’t catch their names. Thank you to you all for looking after us so well!
We had a wet and windy 3 days on Arran but actually the hotel, with its lovely vibe, really made our stay fantastic. I would rate it 5 stars + and recommend it to anyone visiting the island. A wonderful experience. Thank you once again to all the staff at The Douglas for making our stay so special!

Staff were friendly and accommodating. They changed our room when the restaurant noise was too loud for us with absolutely no fuss and made sure every part of our stay was comfortable.
This was a lovely comfy hotel with great service and nice places to eat. Nothing I didn’t like about it and really close to the ferry terminal and other key places on Arran. We felt so looked after and relaxed whilst we were there. Whilst I was booking this I wasn’t bothered about if the hotel had an on-site restaurant but it turned out it was very hard to get a place to eat anywhere you weren’t staying on Arran due to staff shortages everywhere so this ended up being unexpectedly beneficial (plus the food was nice!)
The hotel was fantastic but we found the room way too warm during the night and was not able to control the room temperature or open a window fully, other the room was very comfortable and clean with all staff we encountered being very polite and helpful
Hotel looked like it had been reasonably recently refurbished and was in good condition with a spacious room.
Having stayed in a number of hotels around Scotland recently of similar standard the room rate was on the pricey side in comparison. The only other thing was even without COVID concerns the tables in the bistro were too close and even more so considering current concerns
Hotel was absolutely beautiful. So lovely to be in a hotel that wasn’t one of the big chains. Room was fabulous with great views. Food was excellent and staff were very accommodating.
We had a fantastic stay at the Douglas Hotel; taking two rooms for two nights to celebrate my birthday. The staff were extremely helpful (especially Dawn on reception) and the rooms were lovely.
The only thing I could suggest to improve on a great stay would have been aircon - it was hot and uncomfortable at night.
Really nice as always, impeccably clean and all staff very friendly and accommodating. Was disappointed to find no air conditioning in room and no windows to open which was an issue in the hot weather.
Will definitely be back again.
Spacious and very clean both room and bathroom
Very helpful staff
Wi fi connection- last century experience!!!
I have stayed in a number of different hotels on Arran and this was the only one you couldn't use either my mobile phone for calls or laptop for work! Dissapointed!
Hotel excellent apart from the bathroom difficult getting in and out of the shower at times dangerous, staff fantastic food good we ha a great time there
Mostly good - friendly staff, lovely rooms and good quality food. Let down by the very slow and inefficient service in restaurant/bar. Needed to be a lot more attentive. Too often left waiting.

So sorry to hear this! This is our first weekend of re-opening and we are all still learning to comply with the 'new normal'
As a result of Covid19 and Government restrictions - our staffing, menus & services are reduced to ensure the safety of all and we have a new on-line booking system for the bar and bistro for the track and trace legislation, all in all it took us the first few days to get used to the new systems and procedures.
We have been overwhelmed by the kindness, support and patience of those gracing our doors ❤️ it really is a difficult time for all, and we're doing our best.
Thank you for your feedback, we will continue to tweak our procedures as restrictions relax, but for now safety for all is paramount.
Take care & stay safe
