“Occidental Aruba”
The All Inclusive Occidental Hotel in Aruba was a disappointment. The hotel shut down power to do generator maintenance and then had problems that resulted in nearly an entire day of lost power. On top of that, they shut down the water for a period of time. We booked the concierge level and the service there was terrific. The staff was extremely helpful and I would highly recommend them. The club level restaurant staff was wonderful. Aside from a limited menu, the food, drink and service was a 10 out of 10. The grounds were neat and clean, the pool and beach were well cared for.
“Worse Arubian experience ever”
My wife and I have been vacationing in Aruba since 1995. We usually stay at the Hyatt, but last year tried the Occidental Royal Club and overall felt that it was a good deal. Unfortunately, this year's experience was one of the worse vacations ever experienced: - without prior notice except on that morning, the hotel shut down all power to perform generator maintenance work. This maintenance work originally was suppose to take a few hours resulted in keeping power off in our building well after 6 pm with intermittent outages throughout the nights. Try going to the bathroom at 4 am without any lights. In fact the other building had no power for almost three days. - on Thursday, 11/17 the hotel lost water to all of the rooms. We were without water for several hours. I had to go to dinner that night without taking a shower after spending a day at the pool/beach with suntan lotion and sand. - without any prior notice when booking vacation, there was constant construction whereby drilling occurred throughout the day which was extremely loud especially when lounging at the pool. - on one night the construction work lasted until 11 p.m with banging and drilling. - at the Royal club dining room and a few of the other restaurants the limited menu was even made more limited due to the unavailability of entrees and desserts. - there were complaints from every guest we talked to on the trip. As a result the general environment was full of negativity .
“Great for the money!”
Great staff, standard all-inclusive food, great restaurants, needs a little updating. Definately worth the money
“all inclusive=BEST DAY EVER!!!!”
First time to Aruba and first time for an All Inclusive,,and I must say it was TOTALLY WORTH IT!!!!!! The price of food/drinks outside the resorts were crazy high(EX going rate for a chicken sandwich $18-$20 EVERYWHERE) We really never needed to leave, we had everything there! Staff was amazing! Bar tenders worked non stop and u never felt pressured to tip with no sight of a tip jar or bell like everywhere else. Plenty of cabanas on the beach, plenty of floats, snorkel gear to take to other destinations instead of paying to rent ,kayaks all included! The beds were so comfortable im trying to hunt down the company to have one shipped to me. The night entertainment was terribly cheesy and we walked out half way through the first show never to return. The Mexican restaurant took 3hrs to eat at and we never returned. Zen was fantastic, loved it so much we went three times. The island was easy to drive and there were no annoying people trying to sell u things on every block! All in all i would recommend it for the price.
“Not Impressed”
Our arrival started with an hour wait in line for check in. Got to room and had a mildew smell. Front desk stated no other rooms available. I offered to pay for upgrade, they said check back in a few days. Front desk staff, not helpful at all. Pool and beach were awesome. Food was ok, nothing great. Beds ok, not very comfortable, pillows suck. Housekeeping did not leave towels in room one day, had to track down housekeeping to get towels. Beware of "ocean view" choice, you get parking lot and ocean view. Bartenders make alcohol drinks, what they put in it... well thats up in the air. Stick with the basics, captain and coke, cranberry and vodka etc. Not sure if I'd go back... only great amenity to this hotel was the location on the beach and the pool.
“Great Anniversary for Experienced Travelers”
We chose Aruba for our 20th wedding anniversary. We have been to multiple all inclusive resorts in Punta Cana, Cancun, Riviera Maya, and Jamaica. We chose the Occidental because it was an all-inclusive and because of price. It exceeded our expectations in every way. The food was excellent and varied. It was no problem getting reservations in the specialty restaurants; the Oriental was fantastic and the service at L'Olio (italian) was first-rate (Edgar was our server). The pool and beach areas were clean and beautiful. While people did put towels on chairs, we never had trouble securing a seat in sun or in shade, regardless of when we arrived. Drinks were plentiful, and the liquors used were not the cheapest variety. The building is a bit "dated" on the exterior, but our room was clean and nice, with good water pressure and NO bugs despite being on the first floor. Upon hearing it was our anniversary, Sandra, the manager, sent us a lovely note, acknowledged us on the daily information sheet, and sent a bottle of champagne to our room. The location of the hotel is fantastic - there are shops, eateries, music, and dancing just across the street. The nightly entertainment in the bar area (7 -9 pm), and live music was fantastic. We usually travel with our children (13 and 9). Few children were at this resort, but it may have been due to the time of the year. We would definitely choose Aruba and the Occidental again!
“Grand Occidental”
Great place to stay. Service is unbeatable throughout every department. Keep eye out for timeshare offers. Highly recommend a Jeep tour
“Food not so good”
Staff was very friendly; food got old after the first day
“GREAT TIME!! SECOND VISIT AND WILL COME BACK”
We came for our honeymoon on October 3rd. We reserved the Royal Club which is more expensive but you get what you pay for!! Be clear when checking in that you want a resort/ocean view, in my opinion those are the best views. The food and service is very god here. The beach is beautiful but if you want a Chickee/Palapas you need to get there early or later in the day. If not there were still chairs under the palm trees which were just as nice. Same goes for getting rafts to float on from the surf shop. They go quick in the morning. Also, make all your dinner reservations when you check in or else the restaurants fill up very quickly. Being in the royal club gives you access to an additional restuarant/lounge on the top (9th) floor which was awesome for breakfast and lunch. Room service is also faster in the Royal Club. Once you learn these little tricks your stay will be a breeze!! I can't wait to go back!!!!! Also, I recommend the Jolly Pirate Ship Snorkeling Tour which we booked separately from the hotel. You will see people on the beach selling vouchers, I have personally used a guy named J.R. twice in the past. The ship leaves from Mumba Beach Pier!!! So Much Fun!!!! Enjoy (Pool & Pool bar also awesome!)
“Very Impressive, we were here 20 years ago, cant wait to go back”
The hotel was great, clean, all the staff was accomodating and friendly. The Italian restaurant food was delicious, made 2 reservations there. The beach was better (clean and all sand, minimal shells) than the hotels surrounding it. Can't wait to go back!!!!! Felt very secure, even wandered out to the local shops and entertainment areas.

Area:
Palm Beach, Aruba: The question on Palm Beach is this: lounge or live large? Theres a reason the major resorts and clubs are located near these calm waters. The beach is an ideal place to do absolutely nothing, with a cold drink in hand. Theres also swimming, golf, horseback riding, ATV rentals, and plenty of water sports.
