Spendy, but so comfortable
This was the best hotel we stayed at in our month long trip in Madagascar. We were either jet lagged, or about to travel whenever we were in Tana and this hotel was comfortable and easy. It is at the top of the hill with a nice view and a rooftop bar. There are a few bars and restaurants in walking distance as well. Their prices are a bit high, so we walked next door for breakfast and went out for dinner. But wow, to have a nice shower and wifi is incredible.

This hotel exceeded my expectations. It was very clean, great atmosphere and the staff were beyond amazing, very friendly and helpful. I specifically booked this hotel because of the view and i was NOT disappointed, it was amazing to say the least. The rooftop patio was gorgeous and the food was amazing. I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone who is looking for an affordable, clean, and great atmosphere.

So so for a solo
As a solo female, I found the area to be a bit worrisome to go out and about. Although most staff spoke English, the lady that checked me in had limited language skills and that prevented me from getting a guide through the hotel. The elevator did not work, which was an issue with my luggage. The restaurant was nice and the staff was helpful. The outside area was nice.

This is a modern, clean, French-style boutique hotel at a great location. However, when we checked in, the front desk gave us the wrong room which turned out to be an occupied room. They quickly switched us back to a different room. But this time we noticed that the window was opened and there were about 100 mosquitoes on the ceiling, so my husband had to call them to switch our room. We were told that they were sold out for the night for our room type, but they were able to let us stay a different room for the night until they resolve the problem the next day. We were pleased with their way of handling the situation and thought their service was good. Overall I would say this is a great hotel in Madagascar and is trying hard to keep up with the international high-end hotel standard. The only thing we didn't like too much was there were too many staff working or standing at the front desk and restaurant during the day, which made us feel quite uncomfortable while having breakfast. Otherwise, I would recommend anyone to stay here during their visit in Tana.

Really lovely little boutique hotel - lovely rooms which are clean and very chic. The staff are very friendly. They arranged transfers which were really useful and reasonably priced. The terrace and bar are wonderful - lovely view over the valley. Great base to explore the city.

I was only there for one night, literally on my way out of the country. So I cannot speak to the location or convenience factors. But the hotel was quite pleasant, the staff courteous and helpful, the dinner at the restaurant outstanding and reasonably priced, and the breakfast more than adequate. The room was clean, comfortable and equipped with all the amenities; plenty of hot water! I highly recommend this hotel.

A comfortable stay in the heart of Tana
This is a wonderful hotel in the heart of Antananarivo. Its rooms are bright, modern, and very clean, and it was a very comfortable stay. As a bonus, the restaurant in the lobby served excellent tapas - and some of the best sangria I've ever had.

Amazing Stay in Tana
This is our new favorite hotel in Tana! This is our second vacation in Madagascar and we have stayed in a few different places, this is by far one of our favorite. Be advised of the room sizes, but if you are a light travel you will find the space more accommodating than it looks. Think Paris size bedrooms. If you want something spacious, we'd recommend you pay a bit more for a roomy stay!

Nice hotel in a good area but...
This is a "nice" hotel in a good location, with easy access to many facilities. It is clean and everything looks new. However, the rooms are rather small and squashed (hardly enough room for 2 suitcases, unless you are in a suite, which is double the price of a not so comfortable "comfort room" , making the price point less value for money, compared to similar class hotels within the vicinity. We were also disappointed about the fact that many items listed on the menu were "not available". For a hotel at this price point, one would also expect a greater variety of wines on offer. If you choose to bring your own wine, do not be surprised to find that corkage is the equivalent of half the cost of a bottle of their own wine.

Good choice
Very good place when compared with anywhere else we stayed in Madagascar, and it is definitely not expensive given the quality. A modern hotel with good restaurant(quite expensive when compared with local restaurant, but ok as a tourist, plus they provides quality food and drinks). Room is a bit small but clean and tidy with air-condition and good wifi.

Oasis in the heart of Antananarivo
Newly built property in the centre of Antananarivo, close to all key offices. Hotel is full of light and the outside terrace is a big attraction. Food in the restaurant is excellent, and staff are nice and helpful. Rooms are clean and comfortable. The Gtand Urban offers great value for money, possibly the best value in town. The hotel is highly recommended for both business and leisure.

best hotel experience in Madagascar
we were very pleasantly surprised when we arrived at Hotel Urban, after having stayed in a few other hotels around the country. the hotel itself is very tasteful, with a fantastic veranda overlooking the city. we arrived early and we were allowed an early check in. Our room was indeed very comfortable and sparkling clean with a window overlooking the central veranda. We could hear the live music from the window but it never lasted till very late so it did not bother us at all. Power shower was a treat, and if you have traveled a lot around Africa you will understand why i mention this! wifi worked well in the room, not so well in the rest of the hotel unfortunately. The stuff was very friendly and eager to help at all times. We also tried the food at Urban. The breakfast buffet had a large variety of great sweet and savoury dishes and fresh juices as well. The dinner was a mix of classic spanish tapas and a paella with a twist, accompanied by a ginger sangria. all indeed fabulous. If you are vegetarian or vegan, this hotel but also Madagascar in general, will not be a friendly place for you, so be prepared to eat a lot of spaggetti, pizza and potatoes and see foie gras sold in most restaurants, including this one, which was a disappointment. Otherwise, the hotel is located at a great spot for walking around town and to the main sights. For the price of the double room that we payed i would recommend Grand Hotel Urban without reservation.

Pleasant stay at Grand Urban Hotel
Grand Urban is a stylish and comfortable hotel. The only minus, was it looked like it needed a coat of paint - everything is white and it is a bit scruffy looking. But it's clean and well appointed. Don't let the area put you off - it looks like it's a bad area, but it's really quite central, there is security and we had no incidents. Breakfast was good and worthwhile. Returning to Tana, I would definitely stay there again - staff is friendly and helpful and try to go out of their way. One tip - I actually preferred the smaller comfort rooms over the 'bigger' business rooms - both are almost the same size and the business rooms have weird doors with a separate toilet - the all in one bathroom is much more practical and fewer doors getting in the way.

Relax in Tana
We reserved suite but it is really rather big single room with huge bathtub in it than suite. I would prefer to have more room space than bathtub but… it is my opinion. This room/suite has huge windows with breathtaking view of old Tana and huge terrace. We like it very much.

Brandnew design hotel with trendy terrace
Spanish owners created Tana's newest and only design hotel. Tasteful decoration throughout. The terrace deck attracts a young outside crowd in this uphill, upmarket area. Fantastic city views from there, and from some rooms. Make sure you don't select the smallest room category, that is just a shoebox. Good food, Spanish international style. Missing are sun beds or a small plunge pool. The price-value-ratio of this hotel is excellent.

First the good points, modern, great staff, great food in restaurant, good wifi. The bad points, I was on the first floor, at night the music from the restaurant did not stop until after 11 and in the morning it started for breakfast around 7. One night was very noisy all night due to maintenance. Hotel located about 15 minute walk down hill to city centre, Independence Ave.

El hotel está bien en rasgos generales, pero el Director nos ga tratado fatal. Contratamos dos habitaciones por el mismo precio y una era con la ducha casi encima del vater, se anegaba todo, un desastre. Y se negó a cambiárnosla argumentando que habíamos contratado habitaciones malas, desde cuando un hotel considera que tiene habitaciones malas. Y además pagamos lo mismo por las dos habitaciones de 18 metros y claramente una de ellas no estaba a la altura. Además al tercer día nos dejó sin agua caliente por una avería y nos hizo recoger todas las maletas y todas las cosas para llevarnos a otra habitación igual, a pesar de haber sufrido su avería y ese día ducharnos con agua fría. En fin, lo de este director es para escribir un libro. No merece la pena dedicarle más tiempo. Lo mejor Ives, que siempre nos atendió con amabilidad y en general el personal del hotel.

Hôtel récent et bien situé. Cependant problème d’odeur dans chambre et il fait froid dans les parties communes en hiver. Il n’y a pas de mini bar dans la chambre ni de moyen de faire café ou thé. Dommage pour un tel hôtel
