“Would stay here again - definitely”

We chose this hotel on the basis of previous feedback and were not disappointed. We were warmly welcomed at the airport by the Shuttle Driver, and then again by courteous reception staff who couldn't have been more helpful. Room was clean and large and the bed very comfortable - everything worked as it should. Breakfast was OK, but was not a high priority for us. One of the best places we stayed at on our 6 week trip to Alaska and Canada.

“Alaska Return”

This hotel is functional. But if you want to see downtown Anchorage, it's not the right hotel. Also the airport shuttle is only at fixed times.

“Smelly room”

Friendly desk staff but room smelled like old sourdough batter. No screen on the room window, so hard to air out and keep the bugs at bay. They had a large freezer for storing our salmon which was a plus. No paper in the morning. One of the shabbier H.I.E. I've stayed at.

“Good value and close to the airport”

We stayed here for two nights while visiting Anchorage -- the hotel is very close to the airport and offers a complimentary airport shuttle which worked very well for us. Getting downtown was less than 20 bucks for a taxi ride. The hotel was reasonably clean and worked great as a cost-effective solution. The pool was not really large but good enough for the kids to enjoy. We were pleasantly surprised with the quality of the continental complimentary breakfast -- we were expecting the typical bagels and a toaster but instead they provided cheese omelets, biscuits and gravy, sausage, bagels, muffins, pancakes, waffles, fresh fruite, etc. as well. It was a really hearty breakfast and an unexpected benefit.

Getting around

There is a free shuttle service that operates between the Anchorage museum and the Native Heritage center.

Must see

Visit the Anchorage museum and the Native Heritage center -- especially if you have kids as the Anchorage museum has a Mammoths and Mastadons exhibit that my kids (ages 11 and 14) loved. They went through the exhibit twice!

Dining

We ate at Simon and Seaforts (absolutely delicious, try the halibut cheeks) as well as the Glacier Brewery -- I'd recommend both highly.

“Great place to stay.”

Our stay at the Holiday Inn Express on Spenard Rd. in Anchorage was excellent. We were given great service. The staff is very friendly. We would surely stay there again.

Area recommendations

This neighborhood was fine because it was outside of the city in a quiet residential area. It was close to the airport, but we were not bothered by the noise of the airport.
