Pleasant overnight stay for a family event. The room was clean, warm and well presented. Staff attentive and friendly. Convenient walking distance from the railway station and close to town. Breakfast was a self service buffet which was very nice. Would be very happy to stay here again.

My wife and I stayed here for 9 nights. They charged us for breakfast twice when we did not eat breakfast a single time there. No apologies for the over charge, still waiting for the refund. We didn’t get a thank you for staying with us, they didn’t ask how our stay was. It was very transactional with them. Not to mention how uncomfortable the beds and pillows were. I saw a sign stating we could ask for a different type of pillow which we did, only to receive the same pillow that looked to belong on a couch rather than a bed. Would not recommend this hotel.

It may take some time for this amount to be returned to your account. This has to do with the processing time from bank to bank.We are sorry to hear that the beds and pillows were not comfortable. We indeed have a pillow menu available with different types of pillows, so there is something comfortable for everyone. If the pillow you received is not to your liking, you can always ask for another pillow. Sorry to hear that you will not recommend our hotel. We did not have the impression during your stay that you were not satisfied. We have a 24-hour front desk that is always happy to assist you. If something was not to your satisfaction we would have liked to hear this during your stay instead of afterwards so that we could have solved it right away. Excellent location - just a short and pleasant walk (5 minutes) over the canal and you are in old town Alkmaar. Very close to the church in the centre of Alkmaar. Excellent daily breakfast with good coffee and a variety of food options to start your day. Excellent basic rooms that have all you need, and are clean. Breakfast staff were somewhat rude one day (apparently there is a discrepancy between the breakfast hours online and the actual breakfast hours) but other staff were warm and friendly. Saffa, the night-time front desk clerk, was extremely helpful on two occasions. Upon checking in later on our first night, we discovered we’d been given the wrong room. The hotel was fully booked, so no changes could be made. As a result, one of us had to sleep on the floor in a makeshift bed created out of comforters and sheets. The next morning, as compensation for this error, we were offered a free bike rental for the day, which we did not think was adequate. Overall, we would recommend Amrath Hotel in Alkmaar as there are not many places to stay, and this one is functional with a great location.

Located in a close proximity to the train station and the old town/ cheese market. Hotel is lacking in character, but quite satisfactory and convenient. Good value.

We were pleasantly surprised at the size of the room, it was very big. We loved the jacuzzi bath. Staff behind the desk were very helpful and friendly as were housekeeping. The location was ideal and quite beautiful with only a short walk into town. We would definitely like to return here again.

A pleasant surprise
We found a great hotel room waiting for us in Alkmaar, with a fantastic view over the old town and a balcony to enjoy it. The hotel is a bit older, however, well-kept and looked after. Our room, for example, came with a nice seating area as well as outdoor furniture on the balcony.

Great stay in a wonderful hotel surrounded by beautiful views of the canal and gardens! No further than 5 mins from the station, shops, restaurants etc. Definitely one of the most beautiful cities in Holland 😊

Overall not a bad place to stay - the location is great, rooms are big and clean and beds are comfy, however, not the most modern decor i'd expect for the room rate. The fact there is parking is a luxury as it is anywhere in Holland but I was very unhappy to discover only on my checking out after 5 days that there is an additional cost for this privilege which I was not informed about on check in. There is a sign (in Dutch) at the gate, which I was expected to understand. Whilst the rate is reasonable, it is not acceptable that I was expected to pay this when I wasn't informed prior and the website did not indicate there was an additional charge either. I asked to speak to a Manager and apparently no-one was around. I think given the room rate parking and breakfast should be included.
